TW: Anti-Semitism and Domestic Violence.

More accusations towards Nazi-memorabilia enthusiast Marilyn Manson have come out in relation to his abuse allegations. Evan Rachel Wood is feeling safer now and sharing more details. It certainly is sketchy as fuck to learn that he bought Eva Braun’s handbag at one point, allegedly? Who has that now and have they hopefully gotten rid of it or thrown it in a dumpster? I know there have been WW2 enthusiasts in rock before like Lemmy who collected all manner of memorabilia but Lemmy was also VERY outspoken about hating prejudice and racism and his favorite artist of all time was Little Richard. Manson seems to have very much become that which he once lampooned on Portrait Of An American Family as the toxic underbelly of American society. WTpsychoticF, dude?

His long running manager Tony Ciulla has dropped him NOW, which is completely unimpressive. How could you really not know anything between Antichrist Superstar until now, dude? While many fans are grappling how someone who has written albums important to them could be so allegedly shitty, that is not the thing to center! Mechanical Animals really helped me feel better about expressing gender fluidity but I am sure as fuck not gonna put that incidental fact above the pain of the women who have come forward. Get some perspective, fuckers!

Wood, 33, claimed on her Instagram Story Friday that in addition to emotional and sexual abuse, Manson, 52, was also abusive towards her regarding her Jewish heritage. She also denied ever having a BDSM relationship with him and dismantled other pathetic talking points abuse apologists have tried to direct towards her.

The Westworld, Frozen and True Blood actress shared Manson’s tattoos which she says are hidden swastikas and a Nazi-death’s head inspired symbol of a skull-and-crossbones. She said he didn’t have them when they started dating.

“He would draw swastikas over my bedside table when he was mad at me,” says Wood, who also related on IG in her story that she was called a Jew as an insult and her mother’s heritage discussed in a demeaning way.

I heard the ‘n’ word over and over,” she added. “Everyone around him was expected to laugh and join in. If you did not or (god forbid) called him out, you were singled out and abused more.”

People in the scene who want to victim blame and whose first impulse is to fall into every abuse apologist trope should READ THIS ARTICLE right away. It was a huge red flag when Manson’s team tried to deflect from him ending a recent interview abruptly with Metal Hammer when asked about Evan alluding previously to him being an abuser (before she outright named him) by using Rose McGowan as a token “MeToo” survivor who is friendly with him. If anyone ever tries to do that you can tell them to fuck off and that one experience does not mean everyone else’s were similar.

Also, metal and worker’s rights scribe, Kim Kelly (whose work is much appreciated for what she brings to the scene) has posted a Gizmodo piece to help people recognize Nazi and Racist dogwhistling from metal bands HERE. It has some very good techniques to try to familiarize yourself with. I for one will not promote anything from Hells Headbangers because they just don’t try hard enough to vet shit, IMO.

Reporting on metal is a complicated process and we try our best to not contribute to anything super shitty. The best thing the community can do is have an ongoing discourse on how to improve things. At various points I have not written about whole bands or labels if they are unrepentant, have done zero sincere restorative justice or it’s just way too sketch to know. This goes for multiple reasons/topics. Together we can try and stay on top of this stuff instead of making an anything goes climate. You are under no obligation to support Destroyer 666 casually calling people whores or “effeminate men” as an insult just because you like metal.

The term “cancel culture” is itself an alt-right seeded concept (like “virtue” signal or “SJW”) that seeks to diminish the efforts of accountability and social justice.  Contrarian fuckheads seem to think no one has the intelligence to be able to understand nuance or degrees of contrition. If that were the case there would never be ex-neo nazis like Christian Picciolini who now do important anti-racism activism!

And then there is this I’d like to draw your attention towards:

Lastly, some smart words from Kris Esfandiari, who we have often said for awhile now is the dopest current singer in metal (and several other genres).

It is most definitely not about the he said, she said bullshit according to Wes Borland in regards to Marilyn Manson allegedly being a shitty, damaged and extremely toxic, unrepentant person. Head to Metalsucks HERE for a piece where Borland is quoted from Twitch saying that he believes all the women who have come forward. The list of allegations is horrific. Ashley Lindsey Morgan’s allegation (TW assault, racism) has particularly lingered in my head for how horrible it is to threaten someone Jewish with harm unless they purchase you fucking Nazi relics? Disgusting.

One other thing I want to mention that really bugs me and has had me arguing constantly with scumbag reply guys on posts around various online outlets about this topic is when they ignore saying something supportive to the people who have made a brave allegation and instead cheaply say ,“his music sucked anyway.”

That is not me defending someone’s art. It is pointing out that it is not the time and fucking place to focus shift and imply, intentionally or not, that is isn’t that big a deal because you thought an artist wasn’t fucking good. How about instead have more empathy for the harm that is being discussed and try and learn a thing or two as well (this also goes for the people mocking AOC for mentioning resurgent compounded traumas and PTSD) about the myriad of reasons why people stay silent. Instead you scum are contributing to them.

Westworld star Evan Rachel Wood has named Marilyn Manson as her abuser in a post on Instagram. Hopefully she can find healing from this situation and metal fans will not just attack her because she spoke out against an artist they like. Four other women have come forward as well.

Daisy Berkowitz (Scott Putesky) dies

Posted by Morgan Y Evans - Walking Bombs on Sunday, October 22, 2017 at 9:04 PM (PST)

Marilyn Manson co-founder Scott Putesky has passed from his four year battle with cancer. There was something magical about the Portrait Of An American Family-era and “Daisy Berkowitz” was a gigantic part of that initial wow factor. The news broke via another of Putesky’s former bands, the incredible cult act Jack Off Jill. Jessicka Addams of JOJ was also in the news this week to tell the world of horrible abuse she allegedly suffered from Manson member Jeordie White. Record companies def cover for money making stars and we hope Addams finds peace and closure. It must be incredibly emotional to have lost her friend Scott so close to already dealing with the torrent of emotions that accompanies speaking up to a bigger power.

I missed that certain cartoony style and buzzy punkish rage that inhabited much of Putesky’s playing after that element was less prominent in Manson’s work (The Golden Age of Grotesque has maybe some of the closest moments). While I am a big fan of a number of later MM releases, there is something about Portrait that will always remind me of doing drugs in high school and escaping into that crazy tape in my walk man when the world seemed huge and too scary to treat as anything other than a mad carnival.

Read a great interview with Scott HERE.

Saying good bye to Scott, friend, band mate, artist , hero.. RIP Scott – "always touched by your presence dear." Daisy Berkowitz

Marilyn Manson has been, in my opinion, pretty consistent through his musical career overall, but most people always associate an artist’s ‘best’ work with their most popular period due to shared cultural reference points. The truth is, while a lot of Manson stuff on the last handful records drifted into the sort of mid-tempo pained moaning and self-deprecating poetry territory it wasn’t overall bad. Some people need stuff to be extra in their faces for it to make them feel the same level of adrenaline (look at Linkin Park fans who only like their first record when they have arguably been decent songwriters most of their career).

Anyway, if you like the more hard rock side of Manson you will likely dig this new single from 10th LP Heaven Upside Down (the album is due Oct. 6th from Loma Vista Recordings). It has the sense of social paranoia, some yeowling scratchy screams and a semi-stompy beat that will likely make it a strong live number. If anything it is a pointed examination of the lack of privacy in the swarming cesspool we call modern culture.

Check it out BELOW.

Rob Zombie and Marilyn Manson announce “Twins of Evil” tour

Posted by jessepac on Thursday, July 12, 2012 at 11:09 PM (PST)

marilyn-manson-rob-zombie-tourIt what seems like such an obvious idea, Rob Zombie and Marilyn Manson will be trekking across America and most of Europe during their “Twins of Evil” tour. These two behemoths of modern metal, bringing a combined 50 years of performing to their fans, are teaming up to give what Zombie is calling “the ultimate abomination.” Rob Zombie’s guitars and drums are now played live by John5 and Ginger Fish, former Manson bandmates, which should prove to be potentially interesting.

“Finally! Why did the most obvious tour take so long to happen? Who knows? Who cares? It’s happening now,” stated Zombie. “If good taste is the chief enemy of great art, then we should be able to fill the Louvre with this fucking tour.”

Even stranger, the DJ-alter ego of Korn frontman Johnathan Davis is opening on select dates of this tour. Dubbed J Devil, Davis calls himself the “anti-christ of EDM.”

Marilyn Manson signs with Cooking Vinyl Records

Posted by flyngmonbob on Wednesday, November 10, 2010 at 6:13 PM (PST)

According to Blabbermouth.net, Industrial metal powerhouse Marilyn Manson has signed with Cooking Vinyl Records for the release of his upcoming 8th studio album. Manson parted ways with Interscope records, and now has a better chance to be more creative seeing as how the album will be released  not only by Cooking Vinyl records, but also Manson’s own Hell, etc. record label. This gives him the freedom to not have to work under another label, but instead work with his own guidelines. The album is almost done recording according to bassist Twiggy Ramirez.

Said Manson about the signing, “We will always be our worst audience, until we stop being an audience and start being an artist. Any art is flesh and blood, no matter how you perform, decorate or display it. But we all want the passionate horror of that blood. And blood is what I am here to bring.”

Manson’s most recent album, “Eat me, Drink me,” was released with Interscope Records on June 5th, 2007.
