Death metal institution Carcass always have devotees or critics fighting over which era is best but the fact is they have never released a bad album. They also have not been content to just do what people say either.
“The Scythe’s Remorseless Swing” from Torn Arteries has a very cool almost alt-rock intro that is interesting and sets the stage for the explosive and cynical mirth that follows. Dudes really brought their A game to this track, a dizzying array of memorable riffs and drum patterns paired with a snarled and cheeky analysis of inevitable mortality. The head bang to riff ratio is very high!
What’s not to love? And we all have “daddy issues with father time” here and there, right?
Carcass remain kings of what they do, a lack of pretension to their work allowing them to have decidedly more fun while still creating very blissfully bloody metallic atmospheres and self-aware snark.
