August Burns Red releasing fifth studio album

Posted by Fireball13 on Wednesday, May 15, 2013 at 9:29 AM (PST)

august-burns-red-rescue-restoreLancaster, Pennsylvania metalcore act August Burns Red is set to release their upcoming fifth studio album Rescue & Restore on June 25th via Solid State Records. The album is described by guitarist and principal songwriter JB Brubaker as the band’s “most ambitious album yet.”

Brubaker had this to say about the album: “Rescue & Restore is about challenging other bands and ourselves, as well as fans of this music, to want more than whatever happens to be the current buzz. We’ve done our best with each new album to try to push our sound in new directions and we’d like to see our peers do the same. People need to realize that there’s not much of a difference between a metalcore song that has a couple breakdowns with a repeating chorus and the latest Lady Gaga song. This genre used to be better than that. It can still be better than that.”

The band does their part  to challenge the conventions of heavy music throughout the album’s 11 tracks. They artfully blend piano, cello, violin, trumpet, various percussion elements and more into this album.

August Burns Red will be touring all summer on the Vans Warped Tour in support of their upcoming album. Click here to check out a bigger picture of the album’s artwork.

August Burns Red recording fifth studio album

Posted by Fireball13 on Wednesday, February 13, 2013 at 9:29 AM (PST)

August_Burns_RedPennsylvania metalcore band August Burns Red has announced that they will be entering the studio on February 19th to begin work on their fifth full-length album. The album is due out later this year via Solid State Records.

“2012 turned out to be quite intense for us from a touring standpoint,” says guitarist JB Brubaker. “We did more traveling than we had ever previously done in our career and after three straight months on the road to end the year I think we were all ready to come home and shift into writing/recording mode. Now that the writing is complete we are all itching to get started with the actual tracking.”

The band has re-teamed with Carson Slovak and Grant McFarland of Atrium Audio- the same studio where the band recorded last year’s holiday album, Sleddin’ Hill. The upcoming album promises to be the band’s most adventurous and exciting work to date.

Guitarist JB Brubaker commented on the upcoming album:

“This new record will push the boundaries of our genre more than we ever have before. We set out to write a record where every song stands out from the last. There is a lot of ground covered here and a ton of meat to this album. It’s full of odd metered rhythms and breakdowns, unexpected twists and turns, and some of our most technical riffing to date. Each of us have parts that make our heads spin and we have had to practice like crazy to get some of this stuff together. I know we always say this, but this will be our most ambitious album yet.”

Stay tuned for album updates during the year.

Happy Ho Ho Ho. While it is undisputed that Christian Metalcore band August Burns Red’s Sleddin’ Hill pretty much kicks ass, we also should approach this “Christmas” thing from a “Metal” perspective and thus…three songs mentioning “Christmas” and “Hell”. August Burns Red release holiday album details

Posted by Fireball13 on Wednesday, August 8, 2012 at 11:48 AM (PST)

Lancaster, Pennsylvania metalcore band August Burns Red have released their holiday album details. For the past four years the band has released an amped-up cover of a holiday classic. This year, they are releasing a full-length Christmas album entitled August Burns Red Presents: Sleddin’ Hill, A Holiday Album.

The 13-track album features fresh takes on classics like “Jingle Bells” and “Winter Wonderland” as well as original compositions destined to become future headbanging holiday favorites. It also compiles remixed and remastered versions of the band’s previous holiday hits like “The Little Drummer Boy,” “O Come, O Come Emmanuel” and “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen.” Rounding out the collection is an updated version of the band’s rendition of “Carol Of The Bells.”

“The idea of doing a full Christmas album has been floating around in the ABR camp for a few years now, but what always held us back was finding the time and energy to write an additional full-length in between touring and writing our regular records,” explains guitarist and principle songwriter JB Brubaker. “After finishing [2011’s] Leveler I finally felt inspired enough to tackle the Christmas album idea.”

For this album the band chose to work at Lancaster’s Atrium Audio with longtime friend Carson Slovak and Grant McFarland. It’s a work that enhances the guitar and drum mastery AUGUST BURNS RED are known for by adding unexpected elements such as banjo, violin, cello, piano and even horns.

“Because this was such a different type of album, I was able to get a little more wild with my influences,” confesses Brubaker. “There’s a section inspired by one of my favorite bands, BEIRUT. There’s also guitar solo that is an ode to Blue Album-era WEEZER, and my punk roots are evident all over the album.”

“Writing metal versions of Christmas songs has always been a challenge for me because the songs are driven by simple vocal melodies with the only variety in the lyrics. We decided to take the songs and go the instrumental route – the main melodies are there, but this record has a lot more to it then that,” he adds. “The songs have sections of music that flow in and out of the classic melodies we’ve all come to recognize. There is a lot of substance in these songs- more than you’d find in your typical cover. To some, the concept of a metal Christmas album may come off as silly and a waste of time, but I think this record has plenty of original ABR substance to interest even the biggest Scrooges out there.

The album is set to be released on October 9th via Solid State Records. Click here to see a track list of the holiday album.

August Burns Red release “Empire” music video

Pennsylvanian metalcore act, August Burns Red, has released a music video for song “Empire.” This  is the second music video released from the “Leveler” album. Guitarist JB Brubaker stated:

The ‘Empire’ video shoot was an exhausting 8 hours of sweating and head banging, but it was worth the exhaustion as I think it’s the coolest performance video we ever did. I especially like the old school ‘Godzilla’ looking shots that are in the middle and the coloring and filters that were applied to the post production brought everything together.
