Stone Sour release “Hydrograd”

Posted by Morgan Ywain Evans on Saturday, July 1, 2017 at 12:30 PM (PST)

Arguably the biggest rock record of the Summer has arrived! Pick up Stone Sour‘s new Hydrograd HERE today. It has been a lot of fun to see this band grow as a more and more unique entity of their own over the years, creating compelling songs with huge hooks that truly show a belief in hard rock, balladry or whatever the heck they do. Cheers. That cover art REALLY reminds me of Boysetsfire’s great Tomorrow Come Today record, but the bands are of course very different.

Stone Sour enter the studio

Posted by KageDrummer on Tuesday, March 27, 2012 at 2:50 PM (PST)

Iowa alternative metal act, Stone Sour, have announced they have entered Sound Farm Studios just outside of Des Moines, Iowa to record their fourth album and it will be produced by David Bottrill. Guitarist Josh Rand has stated:

This album will be another progression for the band, musically, we have always challenged one another to push things to our limits, and this record is no exception.Lyrically, the album follows one character to that complex moment in his life, when he finally has to decide which path to take. It’s a spiritual and moral power play for control of what this man will be for the rest of his life. Each song will tell the story from different sides of the character’s personality, with the listener ultimately deciding how the story ends.

The new album is expected to be released in Fall of 2012 through Roadrunner Records.

Corey Taylor of Slipknot/Stone Sour interviewed by The Gauntlet

Posted by metalrocker on Thursday, November 10, 2011 at 4:27 PM (PST)

Slipknot and Stone Sour frontman Corey Taylor was recently interviewed by the The Gauntlet. He discussed the future of Slipknot, his recent lecture at Oxford University, and his upcoming solo tour.

On the topic of Slipknot’s 2001 album “Iowa,” Taylor describes it as “a natural evolution beyond what the self-titled album was. It was a lot darker. I don’t want to say more evil but it was more visceral. We definitely let a lot of demons out. At the same time we had to make that album. For me it was more of a natural step than a quintessential album. I will say there are quintessential Slipknot songs on that album. “Disasterpiece” is the closest thing to a perfect Slipknot song than anything. It is so frenetic and so over-the-top. It is such a punch in the face. It just does it all. I think because of that, it represents everything that Slipknot is about.”

When asked about his solo tour, he says, “The first half of this tour will be me reading from the book or talking smack. I will probably get into what has been bothering me that day and do a little Q&A. The last half will be me doing an acoustic set. It is very much like if Henry Rollins and Johnny Cash were the same person.”

Corey Taylor of Slipknot/Stone Sour interviewed

Posted by metalrocker on Thursday, November 3, 2011 at 5:10 PM (PST)

Slipknot and Stone Sour frontman Corey Taylor was recently interviewed by the UK site Metro.co.uk. He discussed Slipknot’s fans, his thoughts toward the music business, and more.

Taylor states that Slipknot fans are “Probably kids who were like me growing up. Not a lot of money but a dedication to music. When you grow up poor, you look for your outlet. You either set fire to portable toilets—which I’ve done; it’s fascinating to watch a Portaloo melt into plastic and form a big puddle, like a huge toadstool—or you find an escape. Slipknot fans have that escape in our music, which is why I take it so seriously. Growing up in chaos is never easy but if you feel you have no voice, it’s even worse. We’re an outlet for that, which is why I put so much thought into my lyrics. I want people to take something away from that. We get new fans every day and our fans are the ones who are desperately trying to find something to do. And if they can’t find something to do, it’s usually at the taxpayers’ expense.”

When asked about the music business, Taylor says, “that’s another book called How Not To Commit Murder In The Music Industry. It’s taught me patience and not to trust quickly. Just because someone’s supposed to be on your side, doesn’t mean they’re looking out for your best interests. I’m thankful we learned those lessons early. We worked with people who nearly drove us into the ground. Those early mistakes taught me a lot. Every day brings a new lesson.”
