Steve Bolognese, drummer for the Canadian thrashers, Baptized in Blood, has a new job other than being the man behind the kit in a killer metal band.  Now that Mike Mangini has joined Dream Theater, there’s been an opening at Boston’s Berklee College of Music (where Mangini resigned from to join DT).  Steve Bolognese applied, and got the job.  Seeing that Steve was once a student of Mangini’s, it seems like the role has been filled by the right man.

Steve says: “As the world knows, Mike Mangini has joined Dream Theater as their new drummer.  Mike was my drum teacher for years, beginning back in 2000. He is one of the most talented, dedicated drummers in the world, and also one of the most inspirational teachers one could ask for.  Unfortunately, Mike, or any of us for that matter, cannot be in two places at once. Therefore, he has recommended me to teach his classes at Berklee. It’s an amazing opportunity and I’m totally honored.

“Mike is obviously irreplaceable, but I’m going to do my best to share the invaluable information that Mike has taught me. It always feels great to share the knowledge with aspiring students.”

Album Review: Baptized in Blood- “Baptized in Blood”

Posted by Geoffy-Dee on Monday, November 22, 2010 at 4:04 PM (PST)

Canadian Metallers Baptized In Blood have released there self titled album “Baptized in Blood” on Roadrunner Records and it is a great metal release. I say “metal” release, because by placing this album in a genre, I would be defeating myself. This album is just a straight up, hard backed, metal extravaganza. If Pantera, Arch Enemy and Three Inches of Blood had a child that grew up listening to hardcore, it would start a band and release an album that sounded exactly like this album. Featuring songs written about self empowerment and real life experiences this band breaks from the typical metal cliches of writing about cold frozen wastelands or zombies dismembering people before having sex with the body. Featuring epic guitar solos and expertly played drum parts this album is also a great technical metal album without being too wacky for the average ear. It incorporates many of the elements of power metal guitar riffs, Pantera-esque vocals and technical grindy drums that are so appealing in various different genres. I really enjoyed it from start to finish, and I think you will as well. Check it out!

Video Interview: Baptized in Blood’s Johl Fendly discusses hockey

Posted by flyngmonbob on Wednesday, November 10, 2010 at 4:05 PM (PST)

Thrash Metal band, Baptized in Blood was created because of hockey. The NHL lockout of the 2004-2005 season caused frontman, Johl Fendly to create the thrash band that is slowly but surely turning heads.

Baptized in Blood opened up for Shadows Fall along with Goatwhore and Bison BC earlier this year in what was Shadows Fall’s first Canadian tour. In the video, Johl discusses being raised in Toronto, and how being raised in Canada made him a hockey fan. He also talks about the New York Yankees and draws a parallel to his team and the San Fransisco Giants.
