Dream Theater continue a recent streak with ball of fire new single “Moment Of Betrayal”, an exciting yet measured march from new 2x album The Astonishing that sets each section in conjunction towards a composition steadily ascending in excitement. Like the better DT epics, no matter how many parts or rhythmic shift there is a larger compositional scope at play.

Love to see these guys hit the road with the currently also flying high again Queensryche and/or Megadeth.

Santa Cruz death metal outfit DECREPIT BIRTH have been working on new material which will be the follow up to their brutal 2010 release, Polarity.

Drummer Samus has been keeping his chops up with his newest cover of “Dance of Eternity” by DREAM THEATER.

Samus comments on the new material: “This one is gonna be fucking nasty.  Matt and I have bee on Skype every week or so, throwing ideas around each other, bong hits, comparing our nipples, etc… but I have nothing further for you as of this moment.  The music is coming”

“Dance of Eternity” as interpreted by Samus can be rocked HERE. When I clicked on it I also got an ad before the drum video for Bud Light Straw-Ber-Ita. How freakin disgusting can you get?!!! Ewwww!!!!! Thank God the Samus vid was worth it. Bleghh.

New Dream Theater record is coming on 9/24

Posted by GageT on Friday, June 7, 2013 at 8:29 AM (PST)

dreamtheater2013Renowned progressive metal outfit Dream Theater are set to release their latest record on September 24th via Roadrunner. Surprisingly, after a nearly three decade career, they’re finally doing a self-titled album. The lineup for Dream Theater is as follows: John Petrucci on guitar, John Myung on bass, James LaBrie on vocals, Jordan Rudess on keyboards and continuum, and Mike Mangini on drums. After drummer Mike Portnoy’s departure back in 2010, this is the first record to have new drummer Mangini fully integrated in the creative process.

Dream Theater was recorded at Cove City Sound Studios in Glen Cove, New York, with John Petrucci producing and studio luminary Richard Chycki (who has done work Aerosmith and Rush) engineering and mixing.

Petrucci had this to say about the new record:

I see every new album as an opportunity to start over. To either build or improve upon a direction that has been evolving over time or to completely break new ground. This is the first self-titled album of our career and there is nothing I can think of that makes a statement of musical and creative identity stronger than that. We’ve fully explored all of the elements that make us unique, from the epic and intense to the atmospheric and cinematic. We’re incredibly excited about Dream Theater and can’t wait for everyone to hear it.
