I am a big Killswitch Engage fan and will always have a place for them in my heart of moshing hearts. I have fond memories of seeing the band live with various line-ups from Ozzfest to touring with Disturbed to Jesse’s first show back at NEMHC (that was insane) and more. It is hard to say who is my favorite vocalist for the band as my two favorite records from the band Disarm the Descent and The End of Heartache each feature a different lead singer. I think Jesse has the edge for me lyrically but there is something about Howard’s big melodic voice I always really loved. No shade on Jesse’s singing though, which is also the force propelling many anthems.

Suffice to say, “The Signal Fire” track from the band’s new album bringing Howard and Jesse together for fans again was anticipated! I don’t feel let down. The video is great and shows a lot of love plus the songs high speed intro makes me think the band had a lot of fun touring with Anthrax. I have been jamming the promo for Atonement and am glad now the public can have as much fun with the record as I have. I coulda used a little more of that big melodic Howard voice on this someplace, but overall the song showcases both of them well -if understandably leaning more towards the current (and OG) singer Jesse.

I know y’all are gassed up at Slipknot being #1 right now but can we get KSE to #2?

“This video is a demonstration of solidarity and unity,” says Leach. “This is for the fans and this is our testimony to all who see this video. In these times we live in, I believe this is an important message – not just for us as a band and our fans but for all of humanity. This is a call for compassion and understanding! There is strength in unity.”

Leach continues, “The making of the video was a great experience as well. Just all of us guys hanging out and having fun together. Ian McFarland did a hell of a job capturing the vibe and energy of our performances.”

“It was another silly day at the office,” says Jones. “Good food, lots of wrestling talk, and hanging with the boys is a great way to spend the day and get a little work done. Shout out to Ian McFarland for making everything painless at the shoot. The day was all smiles – with a hint of metal.”

Grammy-nominated and Gold-selling hard rock heavyweights Killswitch Engage have just dropped the new song “I Am Broken Too.” Listen and watch the lyric video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BqHJPpXmYuI – which features singer Jesse Leach’s handwritten lyrics.

The song appears on the band’s eighth album, Atonement, out August 16th on Metal Blade Records. The album is available for pre-order here: https://smarturl.it/kse-atonement. Killswitch Engage previously shared the new single “Unleashed.” Watch the visualizer here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lm-sI1EB8BA

Leach discussed the song exclusively with Alternative Press. Read the interview here: https://www.altpress.com/features/killswitch-engage-i-am-broken-too-jesse-leach-interview

The band is also donating a portion of the proceeds from the song to Hope for the Day (https://www.hftd.org/), a Chicago-based non-profit organization that focuses on suicide prevention by providing outreach and mental health education through the use of music and art. “This song is very near and dear to my heart,” Leach explains. “I wanted the listener to feel the urgency, the heaviness of the topic as well as a possible connection. Many people suffer from mental illness in one form or another. I want nothing more than for people to feel like they are not alone in this struggle. There is always someone there to help, to listen, and to be there for you. Don’t lose hope and don’t let your brokenness consume you. Broken can be fixed, or at the very least, maintained. No one is alone in this fight.”

Regarding the decision to work with Hope for the Day, Leach says, “I personally chose Hope for the Day to be the organization we partner with for this song. I admire their tireless efforts to spread mental awareness and suicide prevention. The phrase and the hashtag #ItsOkNotToBeOk is a simple yet powerful statement. I think it coincides with #IamBrokenToo perfectly! Johnny Boucher and his organization are out spreading the powerful message of connectivity and solidarity in this fight for understanding mental health issues. I’m honored to have them on our team for this song and this movement to continue to raise awareness and keep the conversation going for mental health issues.”

“‘I Am Broken Too’ is a song that truly encompasses what we need to be doing in society, talking about what we have been through,” Boucher says. “We know that by talking about our experiences, we are able to relate and be encouraged to ask for help. Hope for the Day has been working with KsE on breaking the silence around mental health since 2014, and we couldn’t be more excited to continue working with them on raising the visibility of resources in our communities.”

Killswitch Engage announce ‘Atonement’

Posted by longhairedpoet on Wednesday, June 26, 2019 at 11:41 AM (PST)

Massachusetts metalcore mainstays Killswitch Engage yesterday announced their newest album Atonement.

The upcoming release, due out August 16 via Metal Blade will be the band’s eighth album and follow up to 2016’s Incarnate.

The band have also released the track “Unleashed.”

Of “Unleashed” and Atonment singer Jesse Leach says:

“‘Unleashed’ is about inner passion and rage coming up to the surface. We all have that wild within that often stays dormant until a tragic event triggers and awakens it. This song is about that awakening within. I feel we were able to capture something raw and intense on this song and I’m stoked for everyone to hear it! The new album Atonement is a reflection of perseverance and passion through the trials and suffering of our existence.“

Killswitch Engage will be heading out on the road on a co-headlining tour with Clutch next month.

Killswitch sign to Metal Blade/Sony, tour with Iron Maiden

Posted by Morgan Ywain Evans on Monday, June 4, 2018 at 5:58 PM (PST)

Big news today as Metal Blade Records is proud to welcome Killswitch Engage to their roster! Partnering with Sony Music Entertainment outside of North America, the band will be releasing their upcoming album in 2019 worldwide. I love all their records but consistently rock Disarm The Descent and As Daylight Dies in my car the most often these days. Whatever they do though always has the drive, passion and depth that fans know and love. And of course…RIIIIFFFS!

Man, with this in the works and the new effort from Exmortus coming out this week, we are having a jubilantly thrash-corian week, huh? Yes, I just wrote that. I will hang my head in shame now…or, bang it?

Metal Blade’s CEO/founder Brian Slagel comments: “I have been a huge fan and friend of Killswitch for a long time, so it is truly an honor to be able to work with them. So happy to welcome them to the Metal Blade family.”

Jesse Leach (vocals): “I’m beyond stoked to sign with the legendary Metal Blade Records and Columbia/Sony Music. It’s clear they truly understand and believe in what we do as a band, and we’re psyched to have them on our side. It’s an exciting new chapter for KSE and we can’t wait to see what the future holds.”

Adam Dutkiewicz (guitar): “I’m very excited to say that Killswitch Engage will be joining forces with Metal Blade Records and Columbia/Sony Music! Super stoked to join the ranks with a long list of many epic metal acts, as well as a team of excellent human beings who truly have a genuine love for metal music. Here’s to an awesome future with awesome labels!”

Benjamin Voss, Senior A&R Manager Columbia/Sony Music Germany: “I am very happy and proud to work with such an amazing band like Killswitch Engage in the future. We are absolutely excited about releasing their new album on Sony Music outside North America.”

Currently finishing work on their upcoming album, Killswitch Engage have taken a break from recording to embark on a summer European tour with Iron Maiden. The trek will also see the band appear at various premier festivals (Sweden Rock, Graspop Metal Meeting, Hellfest, etc.), along with a few special headlining shows. Then in the fall, the band will be touring across Australia with Parkway Drive. See below for all dates!

Killswitch release “Cut Me Loose” video

Posted by Morgan Ywain Evans on Saturday, February 20, 2016 at 10:37 AM (PST)

killswitch-engage-incarnate-250x250At the end of the day Killswitch Engage are on top because regardless of whoever is at the mic the band simply have better songs than most of their peers. New tune “Cut Me Loose” continues this tradition with some awesome performances and varied sounds from the whole band.

One thing that is cool about Incarnate‘s tracks we have heard so far is that it doesn’t sound like the band tried to make Disarm The Descent or Alive And Just Breathing pt. 2 with Jesse. That would be a mistake as those records are great on their own.

Still, the new stuff fits well within KSE’s very well established vibe.

There is even a beautiful reservoir shot  at the end that looks like where I grew up in Upstate, NY and kind of sets a tone for holding strength when set against the raging near deathcore heavy hardcore clang of the end riff.

It is unleashed 3/11/16 via Roadrunner Records.

KSE release new video for heavy groove track “Strength Of The Mind”

Posted by Morgan Ywain Evans on Thursday, December 10, 2015 at 8:26 PM (PST)

Killswitch-Engage

Killswitch Engage are back with a beefier sounding new track, a strong new single called “Strength Of The Mind”. The song stands out well from recent material while still having a place in the core sound. There is a very heavy bridge that old school fans wike like, a pretty heavy vocal performance and some killer guitar runs. All in all, this song grooves hard. Though I’m not as in love with it as some of the standout stuff on Disarm The Descent, I think it will grow and has that certain throwback, early 00’s vibe.

Killswitch perform new song live in Toronto

Your favorite mostly PMA metalcore band and mine Killswitch Engage are always miles ahead of most of the pack, and new song “Strength In Mind” has one hell of a grooving riff. The band performed the new tune at a Toronto stop, some of the only new material since Disarm The Descent we’ve heard with the exception of the rad Game Of Thrones track “Loyalty”.

Jesse Leach remains one of the most chill and inspiring frontmen and it is cool as hell to also hear him admit in this video that the Red Sox blow.

Watch it BELOW.

Jesse Leach teases new Killswitch Game Of Thrones track “Loyalty”

Jesse Leach of KSE keeps that PMA and got fans pumped today with a preview of new Killswitch. The lords of Metacore are part of a new Game Of Thrones mix and wrote a song for House Martell from the show and books, the southern kingdom of intrigue. You can hear the preview HERE.  It features the house motto of “Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken” in the chorus, which honestly sound like KSE lyrics already, haha. I am huge Killswitch fan and it sounds good, though The Sword still get most points for their GoT song from Gods Of The Earth about taking the black from before HBO even had a hit.

Metalcore’s true kings Killswitch Engage tore through the Halloween weekend with several shows including a stop at Upstate Concert Hall in Clifton Park, NY. The intimate venue is a sick room to see a band who can fill and fire up much larger venues. Photogs Matt Slater and Richie Bilyou caught some of the action amidst a killer set of songs from the band’s whole career plus a Misfits cover (“Halloween”, of course). I swear that every time I put on Disarm The Descent the world seems a lot more manageable. That album is colossal. And Jesse, nice PMA on the t-shirt, buddy? Lmao.

Overcast 3 CD Bullet Tooth “Only Death Is Smiling” collection due

Posted by Morgan Ywain Evans on Thursday, October 9, 2014 at 11:59 AM (PST)

Bullet Tooth is excited to announce the 3x CD Discography Only Death Is Smiling from Massachusetts’ metal legends OVERCAST! The band started in the early 90s long before the explosion of metal from the New England area, and released a few albums on indie labels until the late 90s when they broke up to focus on new bands like SHADOWS FALL and KILLSWITCH ENGAGE, and more recently, DEATH RAY VISION. As a lot of their titles are currently out of print, the band decided to release “Only Death Is Smiling” on Bullet Tooth featuring 45 tracks on 3 separate CDs, scheduled for release late 2014.

To say that OVERCAST were legendary is fairly accurate, as most newer metal bands have paid tribute to the obvious influences in their music. In fact, some give OVERCAST credit for starting the massive sub-genre called METALCORE. Their recent performance at This Is Hardcore in Philadelphia sent hundreds of metal and hardcore fans into a frenzy with their brutal and technical metal written with the dance floor in mind.

2013 Highlights In Reverse: Blood Orange Blues

Posted by Morgan Ywain Evans on Thursday, December 5, 2013 at 6:10 PM (PST)

melvins-1

King Buzzo at House of Vans NYC by J.M.

2013 was a great year for music. I can’t recall a year in recent memory where I was so torn between so many great releases for my year end “list”. From Tidal Arms to Across Tundras to Ephel Duath to Nails, so many great bands just killed it. Other band greats tried to kill people as well. It was certainly a year for upheaval in the metal world, with scandals from the camps of As I Lay Dying to Nachtmystium to the horribly wrong Lost Prophets saga (you sick fucker, you are a shame to humanity and especially the Welsh, my heritage) upsetting the general public. As I Lay Dying is a real drag since The Powerless Rise is a fucking great album. But on the bright side it was a killer touring year, many albums that will be loved for years came out and heavy music is strong as ever-if not more. And if nothing today suits your fancy or makes you want to say Hail to the King, crank the Dave Grohl mixed B’last record Blood! for an old school slap in the face back to reality!

From my “best of” top pick Killswitch Engage‘s Disarm The Descent to Gorguts’ Colored Sands to Ghost invading the mainstream as the new nameless faces of metal to Corrections House shockingly cold Last City Zero, there was so much to inspire. So horns up, y’all. Here is an array of my thoughts plus year end reflections from members of Mares of Thrace, Storm King, Candiria, Landmine Marathon and more! Also I’ve got some exclusive 2013 live pics of Emmure, Filter, Melvins, For Today and more!
