Cult Of Luna by Fabian Ericson

Psycho California, the west coast’s first annual metal festival and a must see for fans of doom, heavy psych and sludge, has announced the headliners for this year’s event: Cult of Luna (May 15), Sleep (May 16) and Pentagram, who will perform First Daze Here in its entirety (May 17).The festival frankly smokes Coachella and Bonnaroo in the same breath, and I am not really a hater of those fests (hey, they got AC/DC and Slayer this year, haha). But yeah… Cave In, Dead Meadow, SubRosa, Conan?!!! Wooooh!!!!! Kylesa, Mothership, Bloodmon…the list goes on and on for radness. Between this and rumors that Between The Buried and Me have started work on their new album, I can’t contain my excitement for the state of metal in the States!

“2015 is going to be a slow year for Cult of Luna. However as much as we are musicians we are also fans,” said Cult of Luna’s Johannes Persson. “Evaluating if the offer to play Psycho California was worth dusting off our instruments was not hard after looking on the line-up. Being on the same bill as Pentagram, Sleep and a festival packed with the best bands around is a privilege in itself and we’ll try to live up to that honor.”

The lineup for Psycho California is: Sleep, Pentagram, Cult of Lune, Kylesa, OM, Earth, Russian Circles, Bedemon, Conan, Wrench, Eyehategod, Indian, Earthless, Pallbearer, Stoned Jesus, Old Man Gloom, Cave In, Acid Witch, Truckfighters, Tombs, Bang, Electric Citizen, Coffinworm, SubRosa, Eagle Twin, Mammatus, True Widow, Anciients, Bellwitch, Dead Meadow, Lord Dying, Death By Stereo, Radio Moscow, Ancient Altar, Samsara Blues Experiment, Atriarch, Elder, Mothership, The Well, Deathkings, Wo Fat, Rozamov, Destroyer of Light, Highlands, Bloodmoon, Slow Season, Goatsnake, Crypt Trip, Wrench, Lords of Beacon House, Tumbleweed Dealer, Sinister Haze, Blackout, Red Wizard, Banquet and Loom.

Pentagram is looking for a new guitarist

Posted by tyrusrunyan on Friday, October 26, 2012 at 10:25 AM (PST)

Virginia doom metal band Pentagram are looking for a new guitarist and you can read the official press release here:

“Legendary heavy metal pioneers and doom metal innovators Pentagram are auditioning new guitar players. As previously announced, the revered guitarist Victor Griffin is performing his farewell shows during the Oct/Nov European Relentless Tour. He’ll be focusing on his solo career from this point on and the band and fans wish him all the best. Victor will forever be an important part of the “Ram Family.”

Pentagram is now searching for the perfect player who can easily play the blazing, early blues-based, hard rock, proto-metal of the late Vincent McAllister as well as the doom metal mastery of the one and only Victor Griffin. Tone, chops, appearance, tour experience and availability (US and abroad so a passport is required), song writing skills, and sobriety are all important factors. The band will be writing/recording their follow up to the acclaimed Metal Blade release, Last Rites this coming December and January.

Someone who is close to the Washington, DC area is preferred but exceptions will be made for the perfect player.

Please submit a short bio, a photo, and audio or video of you playing. Pentagram song covers are preferred and the following songs are suggested:

“Wolf’s Blood”

“All Your Sins”

“Treat Me Right”

“When the Screams Come”

“Forever My Queen”

“20 Buck Spin”

Please send submissions to: PentagramAuditions@gmail.com”

Pentagram singer involved in a bike accident

Posted by Metal Dude on Thursday, August 30, 2012 at 7:49 PM (PST)

Yesterday, Pentagram singer Bobby Liebling was involved in a “bad bicycle accident” while he was out running errands for his wife and child.

As he came out a curve, the front wheel of Bobby’s bike hit a stick that was partially covered up in some loose sand. He got thrown into the road and slid several feet, with his bicycle landing on top of him. After the accident, Bobby was taken into the emergency room and suffered an elbow injury, bruised ribs and received 12 staples in his head. Ouch! A picture with stitches on head can be viewed here. Be warned, it’s looks gruesome.

We pray Bobby will make a full recovery and that he will get soon.
