2013’s Necrocracy was probably my favorite overall death metal album of that year, sort of akin to the Heartwork of Exhumed albums, in my humbly opinionated opinion. Suffice to say, it fuckin’ burns the house down and kills everything in sight still alive. Now Exhumed, arguably one of the top three greatest gore bands ever, are finally doing a proper follow up after having first revisiting and revised their classic Gore Metal with an updated recent re-recording.

The album of new material however will be entitled Death Revenge (that sounds pretty metal to us) and will see a late 2017 release via Relapse Records. From Ringworm to The Obsessed and Ecstatic Vision, Relapse continues to support an awesome variety of crucial, weird and heavy bands.

Issues founding Exhumed guitarist/vocalist/swell guy Matt Harvey, “We entered the studio April 1st with our buddy Jarrett Pritchard (Gruesome, Goatwhore) to start the process and no, this is not an elaborate April Fool’s joke… All Guts, No Glory was more of a straight-up speeding attack, Necrocracy had a bit more focus on groove and incorporating some mid-paced stuff in there, and this one is gonna be a lot darker. It’s a concept album, which is a first for us, so expect some new twists on our tried-and-true formula: one part late ’80s death metal, half a cup of German/Canadian/Bay Area thrash, a dash of grindcore, crossover, and crust, and the occasional, well-concealed, Hall And Oates rip-off.”

In related news, EXHUMED has confirmed a string of European tour dates this June which include a performance at Hellfest and follow their North American appearances at Modified Ghost Festival II in Vancouver and the Maryland Deathfest in Baltimore in May.

EXHUMED’s entire catalog can be streamed via Bandcamp HERE.

Black Crown Initiate opened, followed by Ringworm, who were only on the tour for a brief moment. There’s a rotating support slot, like a professor of the dark arts. Interview: Exhumed – Political Homicide

Posted by Morgan Ywain Evans on Tuesday, August 27, 2013 at 10:46 AM (PST)

EXHUMED

As national debate rages over wether Miley Cyrus has the right to shake her coochie or not, you have to wonder how many of these people are thinking about…I don’t know…Syria? Egypt, anyone? Billy Ray Cyrus (her dad) was. He was busy tweeting about chemical weapons used on children while everyone else flipped out about his daughter. Good for you, bro.

I don’t see what the big deal was about Miley’s VMA dance. I thought she was silly and entertaining and seemed to be having a great time. News alert…young adults like sex! The real VMA question should be why does anyone like that Robin Thicke guy? He is like a creepy cornball cross between George Michael and George Hamilton with the most cheesy factors amplified and none of the cool gayness and songwriting talent of George Michael. So Miley appropriates from black culture? Um, first of all…twerking isn’t really something anyone should be super concerned about being a racial badge of honor (not that I have a problem with it) and secondly, the world is more of a collage every day. Everyone listens to rap or rock and even Japanese bands like Crossfaith have metal core looks and emo haircuts. This kind of shit happens and is usually more about excited youngsters than a sinister plot to co-opt from “the streets” or homogenize all culture. It’s more a by-product of modern social connectivity. Let’s face it, someone always finds a way to profit from it anyway. And sure, we should trace things back to the source and give credit where it is due. But seriously…priorities, anyone?

Which brings us to Exhumed. Since the death metal and grind core gore kings reformed in 2012, blazing back with All Guts, No Glory they have been a non stop whirlwind hitting stages around the world showing people how it is done. Now founder Matt Harvey is back with 2013’s timely Necrocracy (produced again with Landmine Marathon’s Ryan Butler for amazing crispness that doesn’t lose intensity). I recently made a summer recap playlist for New Noise Magazine (USA)  and boy do I wish I’d heard Necrocracy before I finished that list. Holy shit. Exhumed have injected serious politics into this record as well as aimed for a more crushing mid-tempo melodic death/modern production approach. The results are flat out godly and while there is much less sloppy grind, people should embrace this as a band growing.

I talked to Matt Harvey about their current sound, current events, why he went “political” on this record, drone use in war and much more. Click HERE to read it. This interview is heavy.

exhumed_logo_TCalifornia death metal band Exhumed have premiered the song “Sickened” off of their upcoming album NecrocracyNecrocracy will be the bands fifth album and a follow up to the 2010 album All Guts, No Glory. The album is set for release on August 6th via Relapse Records.

You can listen to the song here.

Exhumed frontman Matt Harvey commented: “Sickened’ is probably our bassist Bodybag Babcock’s favorite tune on the record, and may be the most thrashy tune we came up with for the record, It’s fast, nasty and while hashing it out in the rehearsal room, we referred to the bridge section as the ‘Bay Area pit starter riff,’ which quickly endeared us to the song. We’re definitely planning on including this in our live set when we head out with Dying Fetus this Fall, so get your puffy white hi-tops ready to run in a circle at the appropriate moments. Lyrically, this is a nasty little tale with a slight historical twist — it’s basically about getting the bubonic plague, and not just twisted gory fate it brings, but the despair and isolation the disease brought, as our putrid protagonist’s contagious condition causes him to be shunned by family and friends. So it’s a real upper. Anyway, turn it up, pound a beer, find a friend, and then hit them.”

Tour: Exhumed set to begin Winter Tour with Phobia today

Posted by tyrusrunyan on Friday, February 15, 2013 at 9:41 AM (PST)

exhumed_logo_TCalifornia death metal band Exhumed are set to begin a tour of their home state with Phobia starting tonight. After touring with Municipal Waste and Napalm Death, Exhumed took a month off and are at it again beginning in Lancaster, CA this evening.

You can see a full list of the statewide tour by clicking here.

Frontman Matt Harvey commented: “We haven’t played a show in… well; it’s been over a month, so things have been way too quiet. So we’re psyched to get into some of the nooks and crannies of the golden state with our old buddies in Phobia. We’ve totally re-vamped our set, and we’ll be rolling out a track from the new record this time around as well, so the show will be all new even for our friends and family locally who’ve been subjected to our racket a few times recently already. We’ve been talking about getting on the road with Shane the pain and crew for a long time, so this little jaunt is well overdue. We hope to see a bunch of mutants, maniacs, earth dogs, rivet heads, gorehounds, toe cutters and eye gougers out there on the road! Cheers! – Matt and the usual gang of idiots,”

Show Review: Municipal Waste, Napalm Death and Exhumed

Posted by tyrusrunyan on Thursday, November 1, 2012 at 11:19 AM (PST)

So when you read this interview understand that I am a little bias. When I saw the details for this tour all those months ago I shed tears, tears of blood. Napalm Death are legends and although I have seen them before it was never in a venue this small. I know there are the people out there who talk about it not being the “original” lineup but for as long as I have been a fan this has been the lineup, except for Barney’s brief stint in Extreme Noise Terror, and as far as I am concerned if you are under 45 years old, shut the fuck up.  To boot Municipal Waste are thrash warriors of unparalleled talent and  Exhumed name might not have been as large as Napalm Death or Municipal Waste’s on the flyer but I still love the shit out of that band.
