Show Review: Abstract Reality Tour at Webster Hall, NYC-December 6, 2014

Posted by NichTheHair on Thursday, December 18, 2014 at 9:07 AM (PST)

billNew York City’s Webster Hall welcomed Animals As Leaders, The Devin Townsend Project and Monuments last weekend. Earlier in the day, Devin treated me to a fantastic face to face interview, which you can read here. Prog reigned supreme throughout the night and due to some lengthy photo ops, so did the photographers. I’ve seen some awesome shots from this night already, due to the fact we were able to shoot for the whole show.

Animals-As-Leaders

Washington, DC progressive metal outfit Animals as Leaders have announced that they are set for release in the Spring of this year. The album will be a follow-up to the bands 2011 album Weightless and is, as of yet, untitled.

You can read comments by guitarist Javier Reyes here.

Weightless is the band’s second album and was released via Prosthetic Records. Upon its release the album charted at #92 on the Billboards Top 200 Chart.

Summer_SlaughterA black stampede raged through Times Square, as hundreds of metalheads poured into the Best Buy Theater for New York City’s stop on The Summer Slaughter Tour. Eleven bands performed nine hours of chest-rattling metal for the most extreme night of the year. I was front and center for the brunt of it and let me tell you cretins: this show was every bit as intense as it was billed. Armed with my camera, press pass, iPhone, cigarettes, and scores of power backups, I was ready for journalistic war. And I fucking conquered.   Click here for the full spread of pictures and commentary.

Summer Slaughter Tour Line Up Announced

Posted by NichTheHair on Friday, March 22, 2013 at 12:15 PM (PST)

599614_502962246408433_494654365_nThe line up for the annual Summer Slaughter Tour was announced today and it is fierce. The Dillinger Escape Plan headlines the show, with direct support from Animals As Leaders, Periphery, and Norma Jean. There’s also four more bands, making this tour even more insanely aggressive. Cattle Decapitation, The Ocean, Revocation, and Aeon will round out the roster.

There’s still another being added, by way of a fan voting process. So we now have a nine band touring tornado on the precipice of destroying every city it touches down in. Sumer Slaughter indeed. No dates have been announced yet and we will surely have more on that later.

Go vote for the opening band here, maybe vote for Abiotic. or Vektor. Tough call.

IMG_8236This past Sunday started off as a rather busy day at my job with what seemed like an endless ten hour shift and ended on a high note after experiencing several bands I’ve been looking forward to seeing live for a long time.  Meshuggah, Animals As Leaders, and Intronaut are currently on The Ophidian Trek 2013 and they just happened to be in my backyard. Fortunately Meshuggah’s lead singer Jens Kidman had just kicked the flu’s ass and wouldn’t have to be replaced by a cardboard cutout of himself.  Unfortunately however, my ten hour shift forced me to arrive just as Intronaut was finishing, but I’ve been told they were excellent from my friends that arrived on time.
