Memphis May Fire’s acoustic “Beneath The Skin” is here

Posted by Metal Riot on Wednesday, July 15, 2015 at 10:05 PM (PST)

Memphis May Fire are premiering an acoustic version of fan favorite “Beneath The Skin” today on Youtube.

The track is one of 4 bonus tracks that appear on the upcoming Deluxe Edition of the band’s latest LP ‘Unconditional’, which will be released this Friday.

In addition to the acoustic version of “Beneath The Skin,” the LP features the new tracks “My Generation”“Stay The Course” and an acoustic version of “Need To Be.” The music video for “Stay The Course” can be viewed here.

Guitarist Kellen McGregor says, “It’s always enjoyable to reimagine songs acoustically as we’re primarily a band that writes heavy music with a lot of riffing. ‘Need To Be’ made sense to choose considering it’s already a softer track from “Unconditional” & lends itself nicely to an acoustic interpretation. Reworking ‘Beneath The Skin’ was a fun challenge due to its heavier nature, but the process was very rewarding & it turned out more amazing than we could have possibly imagined.”

The Deluxe Edition was remixed & remastered by Brian Hood (Being As An Ocean, Sworn In) at 456 Recordings.

Pre-orders are available on MerchNow and iTunes.

Memphis May Fire have released “Beneath The Skin”, my favorite effort yet from the band. This elevates them to another level in my head, as this great sing  along , rib crusher is about empowerment and a generation too blind to see “true beauty is beneath the skin.” The conviction and moral compass of the song is unwavering as the band deliver on a topic of cutting/self-harm and existential crisis, kind of like this is a new Stick to Your Guns “Amber” or something. There’s also a really sweet Glassjaw meets Coheed meets Senses Fail melodic emo kind of radio hook and yet it is also so “owned” that the band make it not “trying so hard” that it tips their hand or kills the song’s otherwise crushing coolness. haha.

You can tell MMF have really been working hard lately, from their STP cover (which grew on me) to this track. The band are putting in the extra effort and I am now definitely a fan.

Review: California Metal Fest, November 24th

Posted by XxCrashQueenxX on Saturday, December 8, 2012 at 11:08 AM (PST)

Hot, sticky, and sweaty. That is a quick overview of what the California Metal Fest experience was like. For being so late in November—it felt like a hot summer day in July.

Once I got to the NOS Events Center in San Bernardino, California the line was already wrapped around the building of people dying to get in. It was only ten in the morning.
