Cover Art Battle: Stones, Chics, & Nooses

Posted by JDKleinhans on Wednesday, March 7, 2012 at 9:06 AM (PST)

Welcome to Metal Riot’s Cover Art Battle! Every week we try and show the best-of-the-best in metal cover art, ranging from the fantastically illustrated to hauntingly photographed and everything in between.

This is a quieter week but not nearly as bad as that third week in February. Now that was a bad release week. Though Pallbearer‘s Sorrow and Extinction (Profound Lore) was pretty damn good. There just wasn’t a lot of releases. Only two I think. I’m rambling again aren’t I?

Anyway, here it is, this week’s top seven covers left for you to vote on (they’re all multisyllabic band names!): Cult Cinema, Diabolus In Musica, Hail Spirit Noir, Heidevolk, Hellsaw, Pharaoh, Xandria.

We can’t divine this shit, so get your asses moving and get to voting! Here!

Dutch folk metalers Heidevolk have just released a video for the first single off their upcoming release, Batavi.  This will be their fourth album and it is due March 2, 2012 on Napalm Records.

The video for the song “Als De Dood Weer Naar Ons Lacht” can be seen here along with a track listing and artwork from the album.

A statement on Napalm Records says:

“Batavi is a concept album that deals with the early history of the Batavian tribe: from its beginnings to its daring revolt against one of the greatest empires the world has ever seen. Set against the backdrop of war, alliances, intrigue, and betrayal, the nine songs relate the struggle of a people needing to redefine themselves in order to survive this turbulent time.”

The band has also commented:

“Our new CD, Batavi, is about to see the light of day, and after many hours of hard work in the rehearsal room and studio we feel like a bunch of starved caged animals! Armed to the teeth with new songs, we’re ready to satisfy our hunger and break free!”

Heidevolk parts ways with guitarist

Posted by Ehrila on Friday, May 20, 2011 at 6:25 AM (PST)

Pagan folk metal outfit Heidevolk announced that their guitaris and founding member Sebas Bloeddorst will leave the band. He has issued the following statement:

“After 9 years I have decided to leave the band Heidevolk. When I founded the band in 2002 I have done this to, as an artist, bring a message to the world, the proud pagan message of Heidevolk. Now I have noticed the time has slowly come for me to look to other things, and there for I have decided to focus myself more on Paganism and other musical projects I always wanted to work on but never had the time for. The next CD will be my last with Heidevolk and I will leave the band in the fall of this year. Not without pain in my heart because with Heidevolk I have had some the best times of my life, which I will always remember.”

“I would like to thank my brothers of the band, all the fans, the crewmembers, and all organisers and contactpersons I worked with. Thank you all!!”
