Poughkeepsie, NY shook as Suicide Silence and Emmure packed the house and cracked concrete for the Stronger Than Faith Tour. The rowdy show featured adrenalized performances met with major enthusiasm from the mixed age crowd (though full of young fans primarily). Frankie from Emmure was still suffering throat problems and sat this one out, seeming really bummed as he told the near capacity crowd he couldn’t sing their set. I thought it was the guy who fronts Emmure’s NYC buddies Sylar who filled in at first but was told a bit later it was the controversial bands tour manager stepping in. The crowd supported wholeheartedly and people were flipping out and singing along nonetheless.

I honestly heard several people say it was the best show they’d ever gone to there. While it was a good show it didn’t come near the balcony kamikaze jumper insanity of Soulfly/Incubus over a decade ago or some of the nutsballz Gwar, Hatebreed or All Out War shows I’ve seen there over the many years I’ve been attending concerts at the theater.

But yeah, it was a fired up night for metalcore fans. Openers Fit For An Autopsy had the heaviest set besides Suicide Silence (who seriously brought in this first time I got to witness them live since Mitch died). FFAA were clearly hungry and delivered a death heavy performance with particularly satisfying bass fluidity from Shane Slade.

I was most excited probably to see Within The Ruins who have one of the best guitarists in metal. They recently survived a snowy van crash and Tim Goergen still had his arm in a sling when off stage. The Westfield, MA band didn’t dissapoint though, bringing Dillinger-worthy technical madness to the masses.

Suicide Silence’s Eddie Hermida really owned the night, though. Hermida told a heckler that “if you want to see All Shall Perish go to an All Shall Perish show”, his new band bearing down with crushing forward momentum as the pit swelled.

Emmure release video for “A Gift A Curse”

Posted by Morgan Ywain Evans on Monday, January 19, 2015 at 9:47 AM (PST)

eternalenemies

Emmure have released a different style of video for “A Gift A Curse” from Eternal Enemies. The clip features caged David statues, some Blue Man Group/Slipknot love children hitting conga drums, oozing black tentacles and the low tuned sound fans of the band crave. It’s MLK day and we are supposed to come together, which I totally agree with. At the same time, the production, aggression and overall weirdness of this clip make it appealing even on a day especially meant for mindfulness. But yeah, let’s take care of each other out there, people.

Check out the video BELOW.

Eternal Enemies at Upstate Concert Hall (Show Pics)

Upstate Concert Hall in Clifton Park, NY regularly throws diverse shows from Metric to Every Time I Die to Mindless Self Indulgence. It was a no brainer that The Eternal Enemies Tour stop at the mid sized venue was going to be really hyper and packed with kids. Not only is this where the beef with Emmure and The Acacia Strain kind of reached an apex at one point, but it also is where they best buried the hatchet. This show was actually really positive, even with everyone screaming angry shit all night, haha.

From Emmure pals Sylar (also from Queens) setting it off like a kind of metalcore Linkin Park to Kublai Khan from Texas completely killing it onstage with a strong message of unity to the wall of heavy that slams into the crowd whenever The Acacia Strain hits, it was a good night for Upstate, NY.  I can’t believe Ryan from Fit For A King managed to sing his whole set in a long sleeve shirt and not faint. Vincent from The Acacia Strain even gave shout outs to Ted’s Fish Fry and Stewart’s Ice Cream (that’s a regional reference if you know the Troy/Albany area), which was pretty amusing.

Photogs Matt Slater and Richie Bilyou got shots of the action for y’all.

Emmure release “E” music video

Posted by Morgan Ywain Evans on Tuesday, June 10, 2014 at 8:16 PM (PST)

NYC’s Emmure, the most divisive heavy band in pretty much years, have released a new video that many will love to hate, entitled “E”. The video is pretty fun. The track come from their 6th record Eternal Enemies or, as detractors are calling it, Eternal Enemas. Personally, sure…they do ridiculous and often tasteless shit sometimes, but there have been many worse bands and Emmure do put on a solid live show that is really not comparable to getting liquid injected in your anus to unclog the works. Also, Victory Records and Emmure were super cool when I thre a benefit concert in my town for homeless kids and sent me a ton of raffle merch that really helped the cause, and that was pretty darn cool of them.

Anyway, get your damn bounce/mosh on to “E” HERE. If you don’t like ’em, there are so fucking many other bands to listen to.

Emmure1

Dying Scene / Metal Riot recently had a chance to sit down with Emmure vocalist, Frankie Palmeri, before their show in Oakland, CA. The band released their most recent album, “Slave To The Game”, back in April, and DS / MR was able to chat with Frankie about his thoughts on the new work, re-signing to Victory Records, the new drummer Mark Castillo, what’s in store for the band in the New Year, and (randomly) a solo life mission to Japan.

Head here to read the entire interview and check out some photos from the band’s live set.

Victory Roster wishes you Happy Holidays

Posted by Morgan Ywain Evans on Saturday, December 22, 2012 at 3:56 PM (PST)

Victory Records artists like Emmure, Sister Sin, our beloved Blackguard and even God Forbid want you to have a safe and Merry Christmas or whatever else you are celebrating, dammit. This isn’t the most metal thing in the world, perhaps, but it might make you feel warm and cozy inside and want to go drink some eggnog and mosh.

Victory had a great 2012 and 2013 looks just as exciting for the label with upcoming releases from Otep, Fall City Fall and Continents in the early new year. Pre order packages are available HERE in the Victory Webstore.
