Huntress share “Sorrow” video

Huntress-Band

Heavy Metal force Huntress have released another video from Static, a fun, spooky castle video that fits the Argento on thrash mode of the band’s aesthetic for this tune really well. And the chorus hook is one of the biggest in Jill and the band’s history. A lot of fun yell alongs on this album.

This one is written and directed by Phil Mucci (www.diabolikfilms.com)

Huntress: Jill Janus on Static, “Flesh” and beating Cancer.

In a time when metal and rock fans seem split between compassionate human beings and those who accept trolling and bullying or outright violence (as in the freshly raging Deiphago controversy and the idiots who are anti-Kim Kelly as some “SJW Anti-Christ” types), I am as always inspired by Jill Janus and her band Huntress. From the start the band just came out co-ed and no apologies roaring and while Jill was often not taken seriously enough for her looks or called gross names, she continued to forge ahead and play to bigger and bigger crowds alongside her bandmates.

A blend of classic early 80′s metal and power mad hard rock plus serious astral projection/occult leanings and horror/sci-fi or even power metal themes, this band is just pure heavy metal.

I’ve wanted to communicate with Jill for years now and while I was sad to learn that Huntress had to cancel their September dates because Jill is still resting after BEATING CANCER (see that positivity, young witches and warlocks?!!), it was cool to learn she grew up near Oneonta about an hour from I live. Let’s go to the Iroquois Museum sometime, Jill! It’s really amazing!

Anyway, Huntress have made one of the years best ragers with new album Static. From the assertive vertigo of “Mania” to the strong title track, it is a ruler. You can find out all about it as we discuss crystals, cool hashtags and troll slaying BELOW.

I wrote Autumn instead of Fall because it just sounds so damn provincial. It makes me laugh, ok?

The esteemed gentleman of thrashing heavy metal war demi-gods Holy Grail will issue a follow up to sophomore triumph Ride The Void. This band live are a sight to behold with dizzying leads and soaring vocals.  The group spent much of 2014 writing their as-yet-untitled new release. Guitarist Eli Santana and drummer Tyler Meahl also kept busy by touring extensively with Huntress, whose lead guitarist Blake Meahl is Tyler’s brother.

Last month, Holy Grail triumphantly returned to the stage with a live performance at the Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif. during the home opener of the L.A. Kiss arena football team. A photo gallery (courtesy of Voorhees Photo) can be seen at this location. The band expects to announce summer tour dates in the coming weeks.

Band Spotlight: Huntress

Huntress kick ass. Their throwback thrashing space time leaping sound is fun and Jill Janus leads her divisive band forward at full throttle no matter what haters say. They earn respect. She was awesome before this band as well as a DJ or in Chelsea Girls and is fucking hysterical. One of my life goals is to smoke a fat ass blunt with her someday. I don’t get how anyone could really listen to Starbound Beast and find this band insincere. I think they find Jill intimidating, like people hate Andy from Black Veil Brides for the sin of being smart AND a death glam man-babe (even though he’s worked his skinny ass off). AND no one could see her perform or in images and really think Jill wasn’t in control of her career, even if people find her a sex symbol. I’ve crushed on her awesomeness a bit since I wrote for Crusher Magazine years ago! She is theatrical, the band slay and  Jill often shouts out the greats of the past. Bottom line: stop the hate. You’re loss is great!

Album Review: Huntress – “Spell Eater”

Posted by JDKleinhans on Monday, May 7, 2012 at 3:40 PM (PST)

There are many bands out there where no matter how many times you listen; you just can’t get into it, even when it’s something that you desperately want to immerse yourself in and enjoy. Then there are those bands that come along and within seconds of the first listen, you immediately get. Huntress is one such band.

Huntress’s debut album Spell Eater (Napalm Records) was sitting in my “Downloads” folder for well over a week before I finally gave it a listen. I eventually got around to importing the album into iTunes and began to take what I assumed was going to be a casual listen. Within the first twenty seconds of the opening title track, the riff gave me a serious bitch slap across the side of my face and said, “PAY ATTENTION!” Then, when Jill Janus’s vocals kicked in at the 30-second mark, I became thoroughly enthralled.

European power metal dynamos DragonForce have announced plans to return to North America for a spring tour. This outing marks the band’s first full trek with brand new singer Marc Hudson, who also makes his recorded debut on The Power Within. The album lands at retail on April 17.

The tour kicks off April 21 at the annual New England  Metal and Hardcore Fest in Worcester, Massachusetts and makes several stops on the East Coast before winding through Canada and into the Midwest before wrapping out west on May 11 in Anaheim, California.
