We are lucky to live in a time where you can’t step out of your puke infested snake basket without tripping over a grimy sounding band. From Haxen to Misery Kills to Sourvein, the darkness of raw metal and hardcore music is more pervasive than ever. Eyehategod still pretty much take the crown for intense,  blues and junk punk/sludge that will eat you alive or set you free. “Medicine Noose” from their last self-titled record is case in point. From the second the tune opens with a classic sounding EHG feedback ring, you know you’re about to get buried in hell and brimstone.

The veteran band are hitting the road for a Spring run to make some freshly bloomed flowers die. Hopefully no dates will be cancelled, but this band is rock n roll as fuck to the day and so there are no certainties in life. Is there a band more befitting our current American shit show? I think not.

In just a little over a month, Philip H. Anselmo’s HOUSECORE HORROR FEST will terrorize San Antonio. Now in its third year of audio and visual pandemonium, this year’s multi-stage gore gala will take place at the Aztec Theater, The Korova and the Holiday Inn Riverwalk Hotel on November 13th -15th, 2015 and features three film-screening rooms, multiple vendors, special artist signings, the return of The Metal Masters And Horror panel with special appearances from performing bands and legendary filmmakers throughout the weekend as well as what’s mutated into one of the most punishing live lineups of the year!

For the onscreen carnage cravers, this year’s edition of HHF includes 80 eye-gougingfilm screenings throughout the weekend. Having sifted through a record-breaking amount of independent film submissions, the HOUSECORE HORROR FEST plague-bringers narrowed it down to 45 gems from filmmakers around the globe, including Israel, Brazil, Poland, Spain, Canada, Denmark and more. Anselmo added to the banquet of visual grotesqueries, reaching deep into his personal vault of repulsions to bring fest goers a variety of personal horror favorites including Cannibal ManDon’t Torture A Duckling and Baba Yaga.

Album Review: Eyehategod – S/T

Posted by Morgan Y Evans - Walking Bombs on Friday, May 2, 2014 at 4:29 PM (PST)

The new self titled monster from Eyehategod is pretty much precisely what you’d expect, sludgy ass swamp music from hell with vocals that sound like shredded flesh ground between broken bottles and a boot heel. If there is one thing this band is, it is consistent musically. Long stretches of feedback, nihilistic and satirical song titles, confrontational imagery exposing the hypocrisy of religious hate…it’s all there. All of their albums are pretty much equally as good, with the songs almost coming in second place to the overall mood or aesthetic experience. Nonetheless, they will pummel you raw. Opener “Agitation! Propaganda!” starts things off in a faster mode but soon we are knee deep in southern mud with brain bleeders like “Nobody told Me” or the standout and awesomely titled “Trying to Crack the Hard Dollar”, a song that will make your neck and shoulders tense up.

“Quitter’s Offensive” is a shuffling downcast scrapper that sounds like stumbling down the street wasted. EHG are masters of taking blues roots and bastardizing them into the most gutter pain doom referencing punk metal imaginable. There is a reason crust punks and metalheads alike give them props in a way few bands except for Motorhead and Crass or maybe Napalm Death receive. It’s a testament to the band’s iron will and cockroach survival sense…even after the unexpected death of drummer Joey LaCaze. Joey’s final drum tracks are on this record and it gives me chills to think about. Shit, I found his cell phone number from an old interview in my phone awhile back and it was heavy.

“Worthless Rescue” starts with that vintage EHG feedback you know and love, before their 118th nasty riff takes you south. “Medicine Noose”, “Parish Motel Sickness” or “Robitussin and Rejection”, the titles say it all. Mike iX is a poet of the downtrodden and disenchanted, even when you can’t understand a fucking word he is saying. But really, the guy is like a prophetic force. See them live at the moment on tour with Ringworm and the explosive newcomers Enabler.

Props to Phil Anselmo for recording this at his studio Nodferatu’s Lair and subsequently releasing this on Housecore, really the truest home for EHG these days. While it isn’t my favorite release from the band (that would be the unfuckwithable Dopesick or perhaps Confedaracy of Ruined Lives…always a toss up), the new S/T record is proof Eyehategod haven’t lost a drop of anti-social bile.

Eyehategod return with “Agitation! Propaganda!”

Posted by Morgan Y Evans - Walking Bombs on Wednesday, March 12, 2014 at 4:29 PM (PST)

Following countless years of personal hardships, studio disasters and times of music industry indecision, New Orleans’ own EYEHATEGOD, with much relief and excitement, are proud to announce the release of their brand new full-length! Entirely assembled and financed by the band, the self-titled, eleven-track long player will be released on May 27th by their partners at Housecore Records in North America, May 26th by Century Media in Europe, Australia and New Zealand and May 21st by Daymare in Japan.

Comments vocalist Mike IX Williams, “I have to say I don’t believe we’ve lost nary a step in the creation of this album and we think these newer songs are a killer combination of classic EYEHATEGOD mixed along with our best production, mixing, engineering and songwriting in thirteen years. The main and total tragic break in the chain, was obviously last year’s death of our great friend and drummer, Joey LaCaze. However, his original drum tracks made it onto the final master recordings and we’re fucking psyched about that… As for working with Housecore, it was a no-brainer. We’ve always been a family, and will always remain a family.”

Adds Housecore founder Philip H. Anselmo, “Being a part of the new EHG record is a dream come true. I’ve known, supported and loved the guys for almost as long as I’ve been playing music myself, and it is our pleasure here at The Housecore Records Compound to have ’em aboard. And I gotta mention, having heard the new record, this is the EYEHATEGOD record every true fan has been waiting for…. Hail!”

Check out  the new lyric video for “Agitation! Propaganda!”

now playing at this LOCATION.

As a precursor to the release, EYEHATEGOD will play a special one-off show with High On Fire, Corrosion Of Conformity, Magrudergrind, Strong Intention and Ilsa at the Ottobar in Baltimore, Maryland on April 27th. For more info, point your browser HERE.

R.I.P. Joey LaCaze

Posted by Morgan Y Evans - Walking Bombs on Monday, August 26, 2013 at 7:57 AM (PST)

1183-photo_EyeHateGod Sad news came in over the weekend that true sludge veteran powerhouse Eyehategod drummer Joey LaCaze has passed away. The band was due to celebrate their 25th anniversary in the fall. No more info available at present. Fuck a duck, this sucks.

Joey was fairly young and a major talent who saw through the bullshit and was in it for the right reasons. I had the chance to interview him about two years ago for the much missed Crusher Magazine and wanted to repost my favorite section of that piece in tribute:

“I’m so grateful just to be in a band like this. Especially being from New Orleans, you could walk down the street and there’s people that are on the street playing music that’ll just blow you away. Great musicians that never leave the city or go anywhere. We go to Europe. We go to Japan. We get to do all this shit and I’m so fortunate that I am part of this and we have our corner of the music world. Nowadays, it seems to be turning out to be such a good thing and we’re finally reaping the benefits of all the years of struggling. To be honest, we don’t make no money with this band. We’ve been doing it all these years out of love. It’s finally taking off to where we can come back home and it’s worth our while. We’re not leaving broke and coming home broke. I love it. I see all these kids and I’m so grateful that these kids are into us. When I was at that age I was the same way and was so hyped to see the band I was into. These kids could not care about us at all! At one point at the end of the nineties it almost felt like “who knew” where heavy music was even going. Y’know, now I feel like it’s made such a comeback in a way. I like to find out the roots of shit and the underground place where it started. It’s a good sign that there are kids 15 years younger than me and that’s what they are looking for. They are looking for legitimate stuff…I feel like we should reinvent the blues again. Led Zeppelin did it and all that shit. I feel like we should do it in the punk sense.” – J.L. of EHG

EYEHATEGOD announces Europe Is The New Vietnam Tour 2012

Posted by tyrusrunyan on Wednesday, June 27, 2012 at 7:57 AM (PST)

NOLA based sludge metal legends EYEHATEGOD have announced that they will take their “message of discontent” across the pond starting this July for a two month Europe tour. Frontman Mike Williams had the following to say:

“Brotherhood of the Pharmaceutical Probation System,’ EYEHATEGOD, are once again hitting the rusted railroad tracks and unpaved interstates, hitchhiking their lonesome souls all the way across the seven seas to do even more psychological damage to the music industry, and put full blown reality and life’s terrible immorality in all your faces…where it belongs.”

Buzzov•en Postpones European Tour

Posted by JDKleinhans on Thursday, March 24, 2011 at 9:14 AM (PST)

North Carolina’s recently reunited sludge punkers Buzzov•en have announced that they unfortunately have to cancel the band’s European tour scheduled for April. Kirk Fisher, Buzzov•en’s vocalist and guitarist, has ran into some health issues that requires treatments over the next several weeks.

The band had this to say on their official Myspace page: “First off, we’d like to thank you all for your support over the last year. It was a warm welcome back to the arena and everyone in the Buzzov-en camp appreciated every minute of it. Now, on to the bad news. Unfortunately, Kirk is having some health issues that need to be resolved before he is able to tour again. Hence, it is with heavy hearts that we must announce the postponement of Buzzov-en’s European tour in April and our appearance at Roadburn. We will have rescheduled dates booked and posted ASAP, and the fine folks at Roadburn have already been gracious enough to invite us to play next year’s event. Once Kirk has completed his treatments over the next several weeks, all should be well and he is expected to make a quick recovery, so the Maryland Deathfest and Hellfest appearances are both still on. soon. We’ll have another update for you shortly. Thanks for your understanding and continued support. – Buzzov-en”

Buzzov•en was one of the biggest yet overlooked underground metal bands of the ’90’s, known for their eclectic doom metal sound and their violent live shows. This most recent reunion has been what fans have been waiting for over the past decade as the band has been on-again and off-again since the late 90’s and haven’t had an official album release since 1998.
