A Chokehold stage rant becomes big news

Posted by longhairedpoet on Wednesday, July 22, 2015 at 6:25 AM (PST)

I was minding my own business on Tumblr, when I came across a cross-post from record label A389’s Instagram onto their Tumblr.

chokehold

I was only half-interested but I couldn’t help but to be interested when I read the words ‘transgender’, ‘transphobe’ and ‘black lives matter’ amongst others.

The first thing I did was to email the band. I found out first of all that despite Absolute Punk’s initial reporting, the band member in question was Jeff Beckman and not Chris Logan.

I followed up by asking Chris a few questions: “Did Jeff know that the audience member was a woman when he called her a ‘dude’ and ‘him’. And doesn’t it seem ironic, when talking about excessive violence and force to threaten to ‘fucking kill’ someone?”

Chris’s response was short and to the point: “No of course he didn’t know it was a woman.  I guess it could go two ways since the song is about killing cops.  I really have nothing more to add to this.  The damage is done.”

It’s important to back up though, as Absolutepunk provided not only a transcript, but a video.

The conversation-turned-confrontation starts at 3:45

The great thing about metal is, right when all the mindfulness practice in the world fails and you want to punch your steering wheel, neighbor or television, haha). The best thing I’ve heard all day is Noisem‘s cover of Slayer‘s “Aggressive Perfector” plus a Terrorizer and Cannibal Corpse over on the A389 label bandcamp. Did I mention there is also a new original song “Consuming” that is two minutes of audio awesome?

Check it out HERE.

Full Of Hell to collaborate with Merzbow

Full-of-Hell-7-e1401804393750

Powerviolence/harsh noise sculptors, FULL OF HELL, have just confirmed a barrage of upcoming recording and tour plans, including new tours on both the North American and European continents, as well as a joint release with renowned noise metal architect, Merzbow.

Following up their 2013-released sophomore LP, Rudiments Of Mutilation, and recently-released split LP with Integrity’s Dwid Hellion and his experimental/noise outfit Psywarfare, this Summer, FULL OF HELL will continue to explore their more caustic noise heredity by recording a fully collaborative recording with Japan’s longtime lord of noise/electronics, Merzbow. The album will see vinyl release in North America via A389 Recordings, a European vinyl release via Stab/Repeat Records, and CD/digital delivery via Profound Lore Records. Additional details on this undoubtedly demoralizing recording will be available upon its imminent studio creation in the coming months.

Additionally, FULL OF HELL will take the action back to the streets on another brutalizing tour across Europe for over a month, from today, Tuesday, June 3rd through May 7th, joined by Disciples Of Christ.

And this just in; this August, FULL OF HELL will destroy the West Coast US with A389 labelmates, Noisem, and headlining longtime political hardcore/grind act, DropDead. This eight-city run will tear a trail from Seattle to Southern California between August 22nd and 29th.

Vilipend releasing upcoming album “Inamorata”

Posted by Fireball13 on Wednesday, April 11, 2012 at 11:09 AM (PST)

Canadian metalcore band Vilipend has joined forces with A389 Recordings to release the band’s new full-length LP Inamorata. The band’s sound combines the technical proficiency/reckless abandon of 90’s metalcore ala Turmoil and Deadguy, crossed with the tortured desperation and nihilism of bands such as Buzz’oven and Eyehategod.

The band released an EP in 2008 titled Northern Hostility followed by their 2009 EP Love Left To Rot. As the band’s momentum grew, vocalist Christopher Gramlich incurred a frightening injury during a live performance, where he fractured an L-1 vertebra after leaping off a stage monitor. After being piled on by fans, who inadvertently broke his wrist and finger as well, he was ultimately forced to go to the hospital in an ambulance. The remainder of Vilipend finished their set.

In the wake of the injury, the band began working on their first full-length album Inamorata. This is their most ambitious offering to date. The album embodies the frustration, uncertainty, desperation, loss, resignation and hurt of that period, the desire to recapture what was lost and emerge stronger than before, tempered. The result is a developed, intelligent refinement of their abrasive aesthetic. It’s an album that features greater sonic lushness, conceptual richness and thematic depth.

No release date has been given as-of-yet but we’ll keep you informed. Meanwhile, click here to listen to their song “To Impede The Healing Process” which is off the new album.
