On day one of the Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival, I had the chance to sit down with the vocalists of two of the most popular bands in today’s metal scene: Mike Hranica of  The Devil Wears Prada and Upon A Burning Body‘s Danny Leal. I interviewed  both of them and asked everything from what it felt like to be on the same bill as metal heavy weights such as Slayer and Slipknot, to what they do on their down time when they’re not on the road. Both interviews went great, here are their responses to my questions.

New Video: The Devil Wears Prada- “Born To Lose”

Posted by NichTheHair on Thursday, September 22, 2011 at 9:53 AM (PST)

Ohio’s metalcore sextet The Devil Wears Prada have premiered the video of their first single from “Dead Throne” online today. “Born to Lose” is now streaming online. The video is set against a white background without any light to the band, giving them a moving shadow look. It then blends some imagery of coveted possessions, money, sex, an apple, and others against their new logo in a steel sculpture. The imagery suggests a visualization of their anti-idolatry theme on this record. Check the video out here.

The Devil Wears Prada released “Dead Throne” last week on Ferret Music.

All who have been holding their breath for “Dead Throne” can now exhale. Ohio’s The Devil Wears Prada are now streaming their new album here. The album was produced by Killswitch Engage‘s Adam D and recorded at Zing Studios in Westfield, Massachusetts and The Foundation Recording Studios in Connersville, Indiana.

Vocalist Mike Hranica comments on the lyrical theme of the album: “The record is mostly based on idolatry. There’s a lot of different lyrical content. It’s not a concept record, but a lot of it has to do with anti-idolatry… it’s the idea of putting up our idols, heroes, and entities we worship onto a figurative throne. Those things won’t stay up there, and they’re not meant to be up there. That idea behind Dead Throne is making kings out of things that shouldn’t be kings.”

The Devil Wears Prada also announced today they will begin a headlining tour of the US starting in November. Click here for tour dates and bang your fucking head to “Dead Throne” when it is released September 13th on Ferret Music.

Ohio metalcore front-runners The Devil Wears Prada have offered up another slice from their upcoming release, “Dead Throne.”  “Mammoth” comes to us just weeks away from the album’s release. Vocalist Mike Hranica comments: “The new record contains the heavy aspects of the ‘Zombie EP’, meshed with the melody of the full-lengths. By all means I’d call it our most emotional, well-written album to date.”

“Dead Throne” drops September 13th on Ferret Music.

Its been eight years since the Bay Area’s Brainoil released their self-titled debut on “Life is Abuse”. In the time since the release of their self-titled LP, members of Brainoil have kept busy in projects with names like Laudanum, Stormcrow, Watch Them Die, Grimple, Pig Heart Transplant and Dead Language (who recently released their new LP), among many esteemed others.

But now the time has come for a new Brainoil LP! The Oakland band will welcome their new LP of chunky-riffed crust-sludge via 20 Buck Spin on August 2nd. Featuring seven new tracks of their signature hostile melodies, “Death Of This Dry Season” features “Gravity Is A Relic”, which is available for stream at Brooklyn Vegan. Fans of early High on Fire, Eyehategod, Buzzov*en, Grief and even Tragedy (before those d-beats kick-in) take note, this is the record for you. Look for this latest endeavor to hit the racks of the 20 Buck Spin store in mid/late July with art courtesy of FEEDING (which includes Jon of Iron Lung).

Ohio’s The Devil Wears Prada attempt to quell the excitement about their upcoming full-length record, but in turn, fuels the build up. The metal core front runners unveil “Born To Lose” online and here’s vocalist Mike Hranica’s thoughts on the song and new album:

“The new record contains the heavy aspects of the ‘Zombie EP’, meshed with the melody of the full-lengths. “Born To Lose” captures some of those elements and serves as a comprehensive preview to the album. By all means I’d call it our most emotional, well-written album to date.”

Chimaira keyboardist Chris Spicuzza leaves the band

Posted by NichTheHair on Friday, April 8, 2011 at 1:08 PM (PST)

Cleveland, Ohio’s metal legends Chimaira issued this statement regarding the departure of their keyboardinst/programmer Chris Spicuzza:

“As we know this news sucks… hopefully this cheers you up a little.

“there are definitely samples, keys, electronics, and all sorts of other wizardry on this record. we’ve spent the past 12 years creating the atmospheric side of chimaira, and we can’t imagine listening to us without those cool bits either. each album brought new noises and a vibe to accompany that particular record. nothing has changed in that regard. this has always been an evolution. while it may seem like the end of days, we see this as another chapter. chimaira developed our sound together with chris, and although he is gone, his spirit, class, and the foundation he helped lay, will always remain.

“you know us. we don’t drive our cars looking through the rearview mirror. never have, never will. keep the glasses half full, amigos. it makes for a much more interesting ride….and we’re just getting started. yes, rob is still in Chimaira. Six Feet Under is a side project. Maynard James Keenan sings for 3 bands. Rob plays guitar for 3. It’s all gravy.

“Thanks for your continuous support”

Label Signing: Chimaira sign with eOne music

Posted by Tommy on Monday, January 24, 2011 at 10:07 AM (PST)

Cleveland’s Chimaira have announced that they’ve signed with eOne music for their North and South American and Japanese releases.

Frontman Mark Hunter released a statement,

We would like to thank Scott Givens and eOne. We are excited to start the new decade with a team that believes in our music, has our back and thinks outside the box. eOne are one of the very few labels out there who still give a damn about the genre and CHIMAIRA are proud to be a part of that. Expect great things in 2011.”
