The gnarliest punk album of the year just dropped. Love Is A Lie, Filth Is Eternal from Filth Is Eternal (formerly F'd and B'd) reminds us that there was a time when Seattle bands were considered dangerous, when Mudhoney might jump on your face and half the roster of Sub Pop didn't look like even Starbucks wasn't gentrified enough for their tepid, pale faced indie rock bullshit. Filth Is Eternal plays an explosive blend of go for the throat, not a moment wasted punk n' roll married to Sonic Youth flirting dissonance and with tones ugly enough to make Fudge Tunnel blush and The Bronx seem like Captain & Tennille. Fronted by an actual snarling wild animal over some of the best riffs and beats you have ever heard. This record reminds me of a show I played in 1997 with my old band Fuse where I got wasted on unclean tapline Rolling Rocks and bottom shelf whiskey after getting a tattoo and ended up rolling on a country bar floor half nude and bleeding and smearing black grime and tattoo inky residue and blood everywhere, waking up the next day feeling kind of aroused and ready to fight literally anything but also half dead. Sirhan Sirhan is gonna get out of jail and be all stoked to enter polite society and this shit will play and it will retrigger a hypnotic trance and make dude go all Winter Soldier on some dudes. If your band doesn't bang as hard as the ending of "The Dog", just quit now.

French sludge metallers Verdun have wrapped up their debut album.
The album will follow up the EP, The Cosmic Escape Of Admiral Masuka.
The album as of yet does not have an official release date, or a title. It is due out ‘later this year’.
The band have worked with Throatruiner Records, Head Records and Lost Pilgrims Records to release the EP, and are working with Throatruiner to release their debut album.Add to My Radar
France and Throatruiner Records have quite a thing going on, from super edgy black metal experimental mentalists Plebeian Grandstand (who recently toured India, of all places) to hardcore devoted sludge noisers Cowards from Gay Paree. I also write for the print version of the truly amazing France based Noisemag.net and am always super impressed at the devotion to the true underground sociology of music and reverence for it the French fans of noise, metal and punk (or Europeans hip to this shit in general) possess as opposed to most American “hardcore” and “metal” kids who listen to complete bullshit.
The stalwart band Cowards have a new record Rise To Infamy prepped for this winter and you can see a scorching trailer (featuring the song “Frustration (Is My Girl)” and track listing for it below. Seriously, everything this label touches is pure gold and that artwork is seriously disturbing. I was the 420th view of the trailer, so that’s cool beans.

French black metal/chaotic hardcore outfit PLEBEIAN GRANDSTAND will be heading out on a full US tour August 4th – August 25th with Reproacher. The very awesome tour will support their recently released second full-length, Lowgazers, which came out a few weeks ago via Throatruiner Records. Order (2xLP/CD), stream and download Lowgazers for free at this location.
I am super amped up for this tour and have to try and make a date. Their new Music video for “Thrvst” is completely frightening, a seizure-like summary of modern disorientation amidst chaos. Music video directed by Adrien Broué. Recorded and mixed in January 2014 by Amaury Sauvé at ‘La Senelle’ studio.Watch it HERE and check the tour dates as well.Add to My Radar
“Hey man, what’s that?”
“Nuthin. Just this god I’ve been incinerating”.
Switzerland’s black metal semi-newcomers Vuyvr have released the 4 song Incinerated Gods for stream and free download. A whirl of faster than hate black metal guitars and raw, transcendent adrenaline. I particularly dig the cold and expansive slow opening to “Infected Water”, track 3…before the song explodes. If you like your black metal somewhat lo-fi but with fairly melodic dark streaks embedded within the frenzy of drums and shouts, this will make you cry tears of joy to make your corpse paint run (assuming you wear that stuff). Great, great band.
Roughly one year after their acclaimed debut full-length, Swiss black metal mongers VUYVR deliver their new offering “Incinerated Gods”. On these four lengthy tracks, the band pursues the style previously developed on “Eiskalt”, paying their dues to traditional black metal while sticking to the unusual approach you can expect from these hardcore/post-metal veterans (members of Impure Wilhelmina, Rorcal…). These recordings also serve to pass the torch between drummers, the three first songs introducing new hitter Bastien (Lost Sphere Project), while the closing track stands as the last song recorded with Roderic Mounir (Knut). Cold, brutal and melodic, this live-recorded EP is another testimony of VUYVR’s raw power, making the band standing apart from their contemporaries.

French hardcore/crust outfit DIREWOLVES have been catching my eye lately, one of the more visceral and totally exciting bands in heavy music. They just have that burn, the elusive real energy many bands lack these days. You can tell they really mean it.
Now Direwolves have unveiled some footage documenting the band’s recent European tour. Their debut full-length “Aegri Somnia” was released March 31th on vinyl, CD and free download via Throatruiner Records – http://store.throatruinerrecords.com/bands/direwolves

Four years after How Hate Is Hard To Define and a pair of splits, here’s the long-awaited second full-length from Toulouse, France’s PLEBEIAN GRANDSTAND. Lowgazers marks another impressive step in the band’s quest of total aural devastation : armed with new drummer Ivo (Stuntman, PAL…), the four-piece picks the most dissonant and experimental aspects of black metal, hardcore and sludge to create an unreal vortex of desolation.
From the first notes of “Thrvst“, the band reaches new heights of intensity, switching from inhuman blast beats to slow-motion torture, while unorthodox guitar work and painfully shrieked vocals tear the listener from all quarters. Recorded and mixed by Amaury Sauvé (Birds In Row, Calvaiire, Death Engine…) then mastered at New Alliance East (Converge, Gaza, Xasthur), Lowgazers‘s sounds commensurate to the band’s vision, being a ruthless demonstration of power as well as an untouchable pinnacle in extreme music hybridization.
