Yogi Watts of Demon Hunter has had some fiery demons fight back, unfortunately.

“Yogi and his expectant wife, Cara, returned home from a doctor’s visit and discovered their apartment building had burned down. They lost all of their belongings. Their baby is due any day. Please help our friend, brother, and bandmate however you can.”

Donations are now being collected for Watts and his family via Gofundme.com.

Fit For A King scooped up for Warped Tour

Fit For A King‘s popularity is certainly related to their solid live show as well as their songwriting. They are one of the better younger bands I have seen live in recent years, showing up most of the bands on the Eternal Enemies Tour (with the exception of Kublai Khan who have been killin’ it, flat out). Anyhow, the band behind Slave To Nothing have been selected for Warped Tour again next year.

Slave To Nothing had a remarkable debut at #49 on the Billboard Charts and the band will be on all the Monster Stage North American dates at Warped. Not bad for a little band from Dallas, TX.

Album Review: Fit For A King – “Slave To Nothing”

Posted by Morgan Ywain Evans on Friday, September 26, 2014 at 9:24 AM (PST)

FFAK_cd_grande

Fit For A King‘s Slave To Nothing is impressive, a step forward for the band while retaining enough old sound to appeal to fans familiar with their history. The Will Putney (Suicide Silence, Miss May I) assisted production is perfect for the band. I would kill to work with Will and the band are obviously relishing their collaboration. Solid State Records is matching their greatest releases with this. It certainly is up to par with Demon Hunter’s best, with a display of soaring melody plus a whiplash groove to please fans looking to fill the Chimaira or God Forbid voids as well.

“Young & Undeserving” just sounds mean starting out, but really takes off with spacious guitars and melodic vocals that would please fans of Saosin’s brighter moments of the Cove era. The title track of the album was my least favorite at first, but on repeated listens the repeated shouts and determination felt genuine. Lead verse intro riff also pounds and grooves hard. Kudos to Jared Easterling completely owning this album with a beastly drum arrangements. The record doesn’t reach the ferocity of the also groove heavy Those Who Fear’s latest, but it does really bludgeon at times and with a good sense of purpose. “Cleanse My soul” is great for an introspective singalong drive with a detour or two into deathcore country breakdowns and back, while “The Final Thoughts OF A Dying Man” has some gorgeous lead guitar runs that would make Within the Ruins fans alert, proving Fit For A King aren’t just another band with “King” in their name who are trend-wagon moshing. The guitar work and pining for younger innocence on this mixed with a will to grow get a big thumbs up. This record will make a real fun live show as well, no doubt.

Oh, Sleeper not losing Shane Blay

oh-sleeper

Oh, Sleeper vocalist/guitarist Shane Blay was announced as the new singer of the Wovenwar project, also featuring members of As I Lay Dying not guilty of tragically poor murderous lapses of character or still awesome Ahhhnold parody metal. Wovenwar is going to be pretty cool but fans of Oh, Sleeper worried it spelled the end for the popular band.

“To put to rest the rumors that I’m leaving Oh Sleeper I tell you this: Micah and I started this band 8 years ago and have stayed with it through the thick and thin. That is still the case. Its tattoo’d on my chest for crying out loud. As long as Oh Sleeper is a band, I’ll be in it.” – Shane Blay

My Heart to Fear premiere “The Witching Hour Pt. II”

Posted by longhairedpoet on Thursday, June 6, 2013 at 12:10 PM (PST)

algorithm Pennsylvania Metallers My Heart to Fear have announced that their debut full length effort Algorithm will drop on July 9th via Solid State Records.

In anticipation of this release, the band has premiered the lyric video for the song “The Witching Hour Pt. II”.

Vocalist Trevor Pool had this to say about the song:

“’The Witching Hour Pt. II’ carries on in the vein of an older song, ‘The Witching Hour.’  “The song was purposefully written as a sequel because we felt the original song was too metaphorical and could be difficult to grasp. With ‘Pt. II’ there is a plainly told story about the study and experimentation of the theological duality between demons/the Devil and angels/God.”

August Burns Red releasing fifth studio album

Posted by Fireball13 on Wednesday, May 15, 2013 at 9:29 AM (PST)

august-burns-red-rescue-restoreLancaster, Pennsylvania metalcore act August Burns Red is set to release their upcoming fifth studio album Rescue & Restore on June 25th via Solid State Records. The album is described by guitarist and principal songwriter JB Brubaker as the band’s “most ambitious album yet.”

Brubaker had this to say about the album: “Rescue & Restore is about challenging other bands and ourselves, as well as fans of this music, to want more than whatever happens to be the current buzz. We’ve done our best with each new album to try to push our sound in new directions and we’d like to see our peers do the same. People need to realize that there’s not much of a difference between a metalcore song that has a couple breakdowns with a repeating chorus and the latest Lady Gaga song. This genre used to be better than that. It can still be better than that.”

The band does their part  to challenge the conventions of heavy music throughout the album’s 11 tracks. They artfully blend piano, cello, violin, trumpet, various percussion elements and more into this album.

August Burns Red will be touring all summer on the Vans Warped Tour in support of their upcoming album. Click here to check out a bigger picture of the album’s artwork.

August Burns Red recording fifth studio album

Posted by Fireball13 on Wednesday, February 13, 2013 at 9:29 AM (PST)

August_Burns_RedPennsylvania metalcore band August Burns Red has announced that they will be entering the studio on February 19th to begin work on their fifth full-length album. The album is due out later this year via Solid State Records.

“2012 turned out to be quite intense for us from a touring standpoint,” says guitarist JB Brubaker. “We did more traveling than we had ever previously done in our career and after three straight months on the road to end the year I think we were all ready to come home and shift into writing/recording mode. Now that the writing is complete we are all itching to get started with the actual tracking.”

The band has re-teamed with Carson Slovak and Grant McFarland of Atrium Audio- the same studio where the band recorded last year’s holiday album, Sleddin’ Hill. The upcoming album promises to be the band’s most adventurous and exciting work to date.

Guitarist JB Brubaker commented on the upcoming album:

“This new record will push the boundaries of our genre more than we ever have before. We set out to write a record where every song stands out from the last. There is a lot of ground covered here and a ton of meat to this album. It’s full of odd metered rhythms and breakdowns, unexpected twists and turns, and some of our most technical riffing to date. Each of us have parts that make our heads spin and we have had to practice like crazy to get some of this stuff together. I know we always say this, but this will be our most ambitious album yet.”

Stay tuned for album updates during the year.
