Posted by Morgan Ywain Evans on Tuesday, November 7, 2017 at 9:35 AM (PST)

Prog-heads The Contortionist have announced dates with outspoken rockers Nothing More, a one two punch bill that is sure to thrill fans of both young up and comers. These are both bands with huge potential for rock’s future and this pairing is overdue.

“We’re very happy to announce that we will be sharing the stage with Nothing More,” says vocalist Michael Lessard. “We have continually tried to tour with bands that excite us and push us to evolve, and Nothing More does both of those things. We look forward to seeing everyone soon!”

The Contortionist’s Clairvoyant reunited the band with producer Jamie King (Between The Buried And Me, Through The Eyes Of The Dead).

’68 release energized new video for “Eventually We All Win”

Posted by Morgan Ywain Evans on Sunday, September 10, 2017 at 1:41 PM (PST)

I have been a fan of Josh Scogin’s work since he was in Norma Jean, which feels like a lifetime ago. I am admittedly just getting more into ’68 now because it took me THIS long to chill out a bit about being bummed The Chariot broke up. I interviewed him twice for that project for… I think both times were NEW NOISE, and fell in love with the chaos and unity of their live shows after seeing them a few times.

Anyway, I really dig the new ’68 video for “Eventually We All Win”. I had heard them before now of course, but this song really clicked with me and got me pumped and into the present moment. It captures the same kind of experimentation and relentless energy that has made Scogin’s past projects so special and appreciated and Michael McClellan is no slouch either behind the kit here. This two piece sound like a full post hardcore band most of the time, such is the caliber of their push and pull.

Within The Ruins is one of our favorite weirder metalcore bands around here, always tweaking their core sound to push their boundaries further skyward. Halfway Human, their latest, is a solid follow up to the mind blowing guitar work on Phenomena that finds the band working a bit better as a full group while still remaining technically fierce and fun. Honestly kids, with Dillinger heading out to pasture you fans of technical metalcore and hardcore better hope WTR and Car Bomb stick around and keep us guessing what will come next.

Today we can say for sure that a tour is coming next as well as a new video for “Incomplete Harmony” which you can check out HERE or below.

“We’re extremely excited to announce a full U.S. headliner tour with some great supporting bands,” says guitarist Joe Cocchi.

The band is also debuting the aforementioned all new live music video for their track “Incomplete Harmony.” Directed by Bobby Bates, this is the third music video we’ve seen from Within The Ruins since the release of their latest release.

Within The Ruins will be playing the “Ataxia” instrumental in its entirety on this run, and will offer additional surprises as well. “We’ll be performing some instrumental material live for the first time ever. On top of the ‘Ataxia’ instrumental medley, we’ll be throwing in a bunch of older material from our first few albums. Come out to a gig and bang your heads!”

The Contortionist release “Reimagined” video

Posted by longhairedpoet on Monday, June 5, 2017 at 2:35 PM (PST)

Indiana progressive metallers The Contortionist have released a music video for their song “Reimagined.”

The video for “Reimagined” is the first music video off of the band’s forthcoming full-length album Clairvoyant which will be released on September 15 via Entertainment One Music and Good Fight Music.

Keyboardist Eric Guenther spoke on the album:

“’Clairvoyant’ is the product of not only months of writing and recording dozens of song ideas over the last year, but also a definitive creative artifact outlining the artistic confluence of the six members of The Contortionist for our past and future endeavors. Collectively, we’re feeling proud, apprehensive, but ultimately excited to finally have this record speak for us as a meticulously sculpted voyage into our musical psyche. On album and stage, between the art’s presentation, zealous and even forceful sonic immersion, and interpretable lyrical and visual metaphor, we are attempting to bring the listener deeper into the world and musical language of The Contortionist. ‘Reimagined’ struck everyone simply as the most truthful and sincere place to start in this new universe.”

The Contortionist will hit the road yet again this spring in continued support of their latest release. Monuments, Entheos and Sleepmakeswaves will serve as support through the end of April. “Over the months of touring behind Language, we would imagine an ideal lineup and the same names kept coming up,” says keyboardist Eric Guenther. “We always get psyched on tours with huge variety and dynamic shifts through every band.”

“The spring tour is going to be stacked, no exception. We are hitting the road with our friends on a tour we have been working to get together since ‘Language’ came out. We can’t wait to bring this spectacle around the U.S.”

The Contortionist have released a “Rediscovered” version of their most recent LP, Language. The new version contains four re-worked tracks recorded and engineered by John Douglass and mixed/mastered by Jamie King. The rediscovered tracks are accompanied by four all new music videos for the same tracks.

The video for “The Parable” is premiering today exclusively via Prog Magazine HERE. “We are very excited to finally share this rerelease of Language with everyone!,” says vocalist Michael Lessard. “We wanted to sit down with the songs that we’ve spent the last 14 months playing around the world, and give people a chance to see them in a new light. It’s been a pleasure getting a chance to rediscover these tracks and we hope everyone enjoys!”

Directed by Erez Bader, these four videos are by far the most intimate depiction of the band to date. The band previously released two videos from the Language LP for the tracks “Language I: Intuition” and “Primordial Sound,” both directed by Corey Norman.

Within The Ruins flip their shit: Serious van wreck, Band ok

Posted by Morgan Ywain Evans on Monday, February 16, 2015 at 5:04 PM (PST)

One of my favorite modern metal bands Within The Ruins might have to change their name to Within The Wreckage after a nasty van accident. Don’t worry, the dudes are ok. The van and trailer went off an interstate in Pennsylvania yesterday afternoon. While no one was hurt, their van, trailer and gear were completely destroyed. “We rolled about three times from what I can remember and landed on the median. Our van and trailer are totaled.” says guitarist Joe Cocchi.

The band had set sail from their hometown in MA on their way to California to begin a month-long tour with SUICIDE SILENCE along side label-mates FIT FOR AN AUTOPSY. Despite the near death experience and loss of gear, the band will push on and make the third show scheduled at El Corazon on Friday, February 20th in Seattle. Cocchi continues, “All I can say is that we’re happy to be alive. I don’t know how, but none of us were injured. We’re on the road touring because this is all we know and love, and we want to continue. Help us get back on our feet by picking up a shirt. Thank you all for the continued support.”

These dudes are killer live and on recording, just way more interesting than most metalcore and Joe in particular played his ass off on last years Phenomena.

More pics of the wreck, a Go Fund Me link to help them replace gear and some music are BELOW.

Music Video: The Contortionist – Language I: Intuition”

Posted by SeanB on Tuesday, August 26, 2014 at 6:42 PM (PST)

The_Contortionist_-_LanguageIndiana prog-corers (new sub genre anyone?) The Contortionist have just dropped a video for their new song “Language I: Intuition”.  It’s a pretty mellow song overall but definitely not bad if this is what you’re into.  I personally like some of their recorded stuff, and although I bought a shirt, I’ve been pretty underwhelmed both times I’ve seen them live.  Not to say they aren’t good live by any means, as they were very talented,  it just wasn’t quite what I was expecting at the time.

You can see the video by clicking right here.

The song comes from The Contortionist’s forthcoming album Language which should be out September 16 via Good Fight/E-One. This will be their third studio album and the first to feature new singer Mike Lessard (Last Chance To Reason).  Lessard had this to say about the video:

“Very pleased to share this video! It was a very special process for me to be able to capture some of the natural beauty of where I call home, the place that was a large part of my lyrical inspiration for the album. It was also a pleasure being able to work with Corey Norman and the Bonfire Films crew. We hope everyone enjoys!”

Within The Ruins post fittingly titled “Gods Amongst Men”

Within The Ruins continue to make some of the spazziest, heaviest and actually exciting metalcore around. One of the best bands on the scene. they put many “peers” to shame. The drive and vision of Within The Ruins shows exponential growth with each album (though I am still really partial to Invade). The guitar work on this new single “Gods Amongst Men” alone is fucking stellar and will shock you at times. Crazy textures, amazing solo sections and some wacky sci-fi sounds atop some accessible mega mosh parts and some tech wizardry…this tune is a great indicator of the show stopping Phenomena they are about to drop on July 22nd. Between this, the new Origin tune and watching with guilty pleasure as Eva Green screwed an invisible devil on Penny Dreadful‘s 5th episode, it has been a nice day.

New England veterans WITHIN THE RUINS have announced the release of their fourth LP, PHENOMENA out July 22, 2014. The new effort will be the followup to the highly successful Elite full length released early last year. Elite was well received, Decibel Magazine called their sound “brutal yet harmonious, two traits few bands nowadays can handle simultaneously.” Metal Hammer plainly stated, “Precise, brutal and bursting with great songs, this fucking rips.”

“We took six months off over the winter too eat, sleep and breath this album. It was by far the most in depth we’ve ever gone in the writing process. ” says guitarist Joe Cocchi. Within the Ruins recently posted an exclusive studio report with Gear Gods that sheds more light on the blood, sweat and tears the band has poured into this release. Cocchi continues, “Since the inception of this band our attitude has always been to completely trump our previous efforts in every aspect, and I think we did just that. We’re beyond stoked for people to hear this one.

The band just wrapped up dates supporting Whitechapel and Carnifex, highlighted by a knockout performance at the 2014 NEW ENGLAND METAL AND HARDCORE FESTIVAL.

Within The Ruins just announced a headlining string of dates with LORNA SHORE and will supporting MORBID ANGEL, THE FACELESS, GOATWHORE and more on this year’s SUMMER SLAUGHTER TOUR. For all tour dates, click here.
