If you want to delve into some richly textural and emotional doom to start your week off with a thrilling metallic plunge, may we suggest Greek masters On Thorns I Lay and their compelling new single “Erynies”? Their newest album Threnos (Pre-order options HERE) is out February 21st from Lifeforce Records. This is an important release from the band and deserves a big push across the world.
Legend and all around great guy Dan Swanö, who was also responsible for the mix and mastering of Threnos, comments: “A part of my wishes it will flop mercilessly, so I can buy all the riffs and release it under my own name…ha, ha!!”
Happy afternoon, fellow metal backyard yokels. I am zoning out watching Azealia Mermaid Ball “Jumanji” on YouTube (one of her best songs, still). Anyway I paused a minute to check my emails and learned some sick ass metal news regarding a current favorite.
Melodic death metal masters OMNIUM GATHERUM are excited to announce the release of their new track “Chaospace”. The previously unreleased track was written and recorded during the sessions of the band’s latest and critically acclaimed full-length album The Burning Cold. “Chaospace” is released as a 2-track digital single that also features a cover version of SEPULTURA’s “We Who Are Not As Others”. Watch it below.
I caught like heavier + more technical Colony-era In Flames vibes from parts of this one, certainly a killer new song and everyone’s parts work really well together!
OMNIUM GATHERUM guitarist Markus Vanhala states, “‘Chaospace’ – head banging, skull crushing straight-forward OG melodeath assault and the evil cousin of “The Burning Cold” legacy! It’s not exactly “the new” song representing where the band is heading at the moment, as this song was recorded already during “The Burning Cold” -sessions back in early 2018. It didn’t exactly fit the album drama and entirety, so we decided to keep it to be released later as a stand-alone single track and a reminder that we’re here alive an’ well! …And now’s the time to unleash this beasty – right before our European headliner tour, that’s starting next week, where we’re gonna kick your arse every night with this “Chaospace” bastardo too. N-joy & see you down the road once again!!!”
“The song is about inevitability of change, and the chaos it brings forth before routine sets in,” adds Jukka Pelkonen about the lyrics.
Furthermore, the never resting OMNIUM GATHERUM will be hitting the road again in late September and October. For more information and to purchase tickets, visit the band’s website.

OMNIUM GATHERUM are currently working on their highly anticipated new album, which will be released in late summer 2018! Check out the below update from guitarist Markus Vanhala:
“Greetings from the studio vaults! We’re busy at forging the new OMNIUM GATHERUM album during the Finnish winter madness season – hopes are high here, even though the outside temperature isn’t. A lot of special good stuff is going on, and new adventures are coming up for camp OG. We’re just in the middle of recording guitar and synth stuff for the next album, and all I can say is that this is gonna be one bad-ass album. Again we trust our good ol’ tour de force of Teemu Aalto doing recording and producing, and Dan Swanö who will fix it in the mix and master the universe. Everything’s been going really well and easily so far with producing this successor for the successful ‘Grey Heavens’, and I’ll promise this album’s gonna beat the previous one for real! The league of angry old men are here for your enjoyment! Already at this early stage it seems like this is going to be OG’s epic guitar heroism magnum opus… Maybe, haha… Me and Joonas have found some great spirit of the lost shred guys. All hail the almighty guitar and heavy metal!”
Following the recording session, OMNIUM GATHERUM will escape from the studio to get back on the road once again. Vanhala adds, “We enjoyed the Finnish-Icelandese rivalry of the ‘Arctic Circle Alliance’ European tour last year with Skalmöld and Stam1na so much that we wanted to do a European round 2. This time we’ll go to the islands of United Kingdom and Ireland, and also Scandinavia including Denmark, Sweden and Norway.”
The band will also be seen on North American soil in the Fall alongside Amorphis, Dark Tranquility and Moonspell. Full dates are as listed below.
OMNIUM GATHERUM have just released their brand new single “Blade Reflections”. It is now available on all streaming and download platforms and will also be featured on a limited Edition Omnium Gatherum / Skalmöld split 7-inch, which will be available on the upcoming “Arctic Circle Alliance” European Tour (see below for all dates).
Singer Jukka Pelkonen comments, “In the light of recent events we wanted to voice our opinion about the tragedy of suicide. This is a subject that may concern anyone at some point. ʻBlade Reflectionsʼ is a statement against suicide and an encouragement to all of those who dwell in the depths of self-annihilation. Having been there myself too, I know how devastating it can be. There is nothing more precious than this life itself and it is worth seeing through. Though, we do not condemn those who choose to go, rather we want to stand by with all the rest, all of us, who are staying.”

Frontman Christian Alvestam of the Swedish death metal band Miseration has posted the following “check up” from the studio on their Facebook page. Miseration is currently in the studio working on their 3rd album for Lifeforce Records. The as of yet untitled album is to be released early summer 2012 and sounds like it’s coming together swimmingly.
“I’m sitting here listening through the new album right now (drums, guitars and bass + some additional surprises;)) and I’m blown away by how crushingly cool this album is turning out to be! The sound is also massive already at this point in time and we haven’t even started mixing the damn thing yet…haha! I also have to compliment my brothers Jani and Marcus for writing such bad-ass songs. They’v…e really outdone themselves this time. I need to praise Oscar as well, for his performance on this album – it’s nothing short of amazing! I applaude you guys!
Vocally, I will be sinking my teeth into the material for real, starting Sunday. The material truly deserves a “going all out”-effort, so I will strain my every nerve making sure nothing is left to chance! In the meantime, I want to wish everyone a great weekend!”

Swedish death metallers, Miseration, have released a music video for their song “Dreamdecipher” off their album “The Mirroring Shadow.” It was directed by Markus Rytilahti/ Ekman & Winroth and features Gustav Elowson on the drums. Technical death metal pioneers DEEDS OF FLESH return after a seven year hiatus with their 9th studio album Nucleus, set for release via Unique Leader Records on 11th December 2020 (Vinyl release 15th January 2021).
The band's first release since the tragic passing of guitarist / vocalist and Unique Leader founder Erik Lindmark, who lost a battle with sclerosis in 2018, Nucleus features guest performances some of the biggest names in extreme metal to celebrate his life and contribution to metal. Vocalist Jacoby Kingston is joined by members of Pathology, Gorguts, Dying Fetus, Submerged, Decrepit Birth and more.
With a mix of the old and new style of DEEDS OF FLESH writing, this album is the completion of a story that began with Of What's to Come (2008) and ran through Portals to Canaan (2013). The music was written by Erik Lindmark (RIP), Craig Peters, Ivan Munguia and Darren Cesca, and had been recorded and partially mixed for almost four years. When Erik Lindmark passed in 2018, vocalist Jacoby Kingston came out of retirement to help finish the album. Alongside long-time drummer Mike Hamilton, they finished the story arc, wrote the lyrics and made the vocal arrangements for Nucleus.
