California death metallers Arkaik have signed with The Artisan Era to release their newest album, due out next year.

Ahead of next year’s release, Arkaik have released a lyric video for their song “Supernal Flame.”

After the release of Nemethia in 2017, the band has added new guitarists Cris Portugal (Enslave the Creation) and Alex Haddad (live for Vale of Pnath, Dessiderium) plus new drummer Nathan Bigelow (Singularity) who had previously played live for Alterbeast and Virvum. While a new bass player had been added, the band is currently working on a permanent replacement to be announced when the time comes.

Arkaik will be touring this fall with Beyond Creation, Fallujah, and Equipoise on the Algorythm North America tour from September 20th to October 22nd.

Arkaik vocalist Jared comments on signing with The Artisan Era:

“It’s definitely a massive honor to be a part of The Artisan Era family. They have consistently been putting out forward-thinking, top-tier progressive metal and we feel like its the perfect fit for Arkaik. The enthusiasm from supporters of the label is also extremely humbling to be a part of. It’s really exciting for us because its also a new era in the band, so couldn’t be more stoked to be working with them now.
We’re still pretty deep into writing the next album, but we wanted to put out a new song with this announcement. We picked a song that we felt would be a good fit for a single and went to our trusted audio engineering wizard Zack Ohren in Oakland. He engineered and mixed the song and we got our friend Mendel bij de Leij (ex-Aborted) to master the track. They were a perfect combo to be working on this song and they nailed it.

Lyrically the song ties all our previous concept albums together into one song. It acts as an overview of the entire journey of Cyrix, through the last three albums, up until now, and points to where we are going next. We’ve never done a stand-alone single like this, so I felt like it would be a cool opportunity to tell the story as best I can in one song. If you want to learn more about our history and concept albums, check out the podcast I did with Steel Legion Podcast here. You can follow the Arkaik Street Team Group on Facebook here.

Thanks to everyone who has been supporting us through the years, Arkaik wouldn’t exist today if it wasn’t for you. Cheers!”

Sin Shake Sin signs to Sumerian Records

Posted by longhairedpoet on Saturday, August 17, 2019 at 3:54 PM (PST)

Nashville, Tennessee hard rocker Stacy Hogan has signed his newest project – Sin Shake Sin – to Sumerian Records earlier this week.

Hogan had this to say of the signing:

“Ash [Avildsen, owner of Sumerian Records] called me up, said he really loved the music and that he was excited to help take things to the next level.. I’m excited to be a part of the Sumerian roster along with so many other artists that I enjoy and respect. We share a common vision and Sumerian provides the freedom to cultivate that vision.”

Sin Shake Sin have also released a music video for the track “Nobody’s Gonna Save My Soul.” Of the video Hogan says:

“The video involves a cult-like congregation who’ll stop at nothing to gain followers, only to reveal they aren’t who they seem. This is commentary on those throughout my life who have went out of their way to judge people only for the purpose of distraction away from their own guilt. We see this every day on social media, which can also be like a cult.”

Angel Witch sign to Metal Blade

Posted by Morgan Ywain Evans on Wednesday, August 7, 2019 at 11:03 AM (PST)

Metal Blade Records is proud to welcome Angel Witch to its worldwide roster!

Angel Witch’s 1980 eponymous debut on Bronze records created shockwaves that would resonate throughout the nascent realm of thrash, doom and death metal. Now, nearly four decades later, the band remain custodians of a style that transcends era and archetype. Their current line-up first formed eleven years ago, delivering 2012’s critically acclaimed album, As Above, So Below. The long-awaited follow-up to this record will finally arrive in winter 2019 via Metal Blade Records.

Angel Witch comments: “It’s hard to believe it’s been almost a decade since we recorded our last album and it is so exciting for us, personally, to have another record fully finished and in the bag which reflects the passion and chemistry of the line-up we have enjoyed over the last two and a half years. When looking for a label to release material we were so vibed up on, we knew we needed a team around us who shared the same level of enthusiasm for the project that the band members have and, even though we’re still a month away from street date, it already feels like we have found just that in the Metal Blade family: their perfect balance of understanding where were coming from, their own, subtle, creative input, diligent adherence to the timelines which curb our internal prevarications, and the ability to ask, ‘Do you really think that’s going to work lads?’ When needed, has made all the difference in turning eight songs we recorded in rainy Leeds into a fully fledged album project. What else would you expect from an international company staffed entirely by Heavy Metal fans?”

Before the upcoming album’s release, Angel Witch is giving fans the chance to listen to new music early, with a special cassette. Featuring pro-tape and a xeroxed inlay, the release is limited to 100 hand-numbered copies – and is exclusively available via Gleam. Sign up for your chance to win a copy here: https://gleam.io/6winV/angel-witch-new-song-giveaway

Angel Witch comments: “Seeing how the opening cut from our new album has some riff, structure and melody ideas (not to mention the title – which we can’t tell you yet) culled from an old Angel Witch live tape that was traded extensively back in the mid-eighties, we thought it would only be right and proper to dub up some copies of the song onto cassette and give you the chance to get your hands on one for yourself.
If you win, put it on your trade list and dub it for your contacts. And, please, send back my stamps!”

Stay tuned for more Angel Witch news coming soon!

Angel Witch line-up:
Kevin Heybourne – vocals, lead guitar
Jimmy Martin – rhythm guitar
Will Palmer – bass
Fredrik Jansson Punkka – drums

Vatican signs to 1126 Records

Posted by longhairedpoet on Monday, December 10, 2018 at 4:19 PM (PST)

Savannah, Georgia metallers Vatican have signed to 1126 Records, where they’re expecting to put out their debut album spring 2019.

Ahead of that release the band have released the music video for their song “Thirty-One Staples.”

“”Thirty-One Staples’ is about revisiting my childhood home through a lucid dream,” said singer Jonathan Whittle. “Observing my past and witnessing an event which put me in the hospital for two months with 31 staples to the head and having to relearn all motor skills. I came out stronger thanks to the discipline I gained from having built myself back and learning from that experience. Ultimately, it’s about diving back into your mind where the worst moments of your life happened: remembering who you are, what you’ve gone through, and that pain is truly temporary.”

The band will begin recording their new album at Silver Bullet Studios in Burlington, Connecticut with Greg Thomas (END, Misery Signals, Shai Hulud).

Vatican will also be hitting the road with The Acacia Strain later this month.

Black Tusk sign to Season Of Mist

Posted by Morgan Ywain Evans on Wednesday, March 14, 2018 at 12:52 PM (PST)

Season Of Mist has backed some bands I deeply love (Alkaloid, Kylesa, Archspire) and others that have proven to be problematic (The Casualties, Shining, Destroyer 666 especially). But I like the people at the label and very much love the good bands they sign, so it makes me stoked to see a very worthy band like Black Tusk get a wider platform through a big label like this.

Yes, that is correct.

Season of Mist are proud to announce the signing of the Savannah, Georgia’s BLACK TUSK. The band will release a new album via Season of Mist worldwide.

Regarding the signing, BLACK TUSK (Andrew Fidler (Guitars, Vocals) James May (Drums, Vocals), Corey Barhorst (Bass, Vocals)) comment: “After more than a decade of pushing through as a band, we have opened a new chapter and are ready and excited for everyone to hear it.”

BLACK TUSK are currently holed up at the Garage Savannah recording their forthcoming new album, the first to feature Barhorst on bass and vocals. The as-yet-untitled album will be produced by the band in conjunction with Aphelion, mixed by engineer and long-time collaborator Chris “Scary” Adams, and mastered by Brad Boatright at Audiosiege (YOB, MUTOID MAN, STRANGER THINGS, SLEEP, CODE ORANGE).

Corey is a very cool dude. I met him briefly once when he was in Kylesa. Can’t think of a better person to keep the band’s legacy going and he certainly has held it down with them filling Athon’s big shoes live. Here is hoping the band have many more years of growth and popularity. They are truly one of the best groups out there in the heavy scene. Hails.

BLACK TUSK live
Mar. 31 Atlanta, GA @ Hammerhead Fest
Apr. 13 Columbia, SC @ Indie Grits Festival
May 12 Savannah, GA @ Sulfur Studios

Sacred Reich return to Metal Blade Records

Posted by Metal Riot on Wednesday, January 24, 2018 at 10:22 AM (PST)

Thrash metal legends Sacred Reich have signed with Metal Blade Records! They are currently writing material for what will be their sixth album and first since 1996’s Heal. Since their 1985 inception, the band has become one of the most revered 80s thrash bands and have continued to carry the torch with European tours, festival appearances, their first US tour in over 20 years, plus their 2012 Live at Wacken album. Given Sacred Reich‘s politically conscious material, today’s divisive climate means the band’s views are more relevant and vital than ever.

Sacred Reich vocalist and bassist Phil Rind comments:
We are very happy to announce that SACRED REICH have signed with Metal Blade Records and we are writing songs for a new album. Our plan is to go into the studio this summer and have a new record out early next year. We are super excited and can’t wait to share some new music with you!

North Carolina progressive metallers Between The Buried And Me have come into 2018 with a slew of exciting news!

The band has announced a two-part concept album entitled Automata and part one is expected to be released on March 9 via Sumerian Records.

They will embark on a North American headlining tour with The Dear Hunter and Leprous on March 2.

Tommy Giles Rogers, Jr. (Lead Vocals, Keyboards) states: “Every single week music comes and goes. We can get music instantly and with this luxury, the listener has a hard time sitting down with albums and exploring their every twist and turn. Because of this, we have decided to release our new album in two parts. Our music is dense and our albums are very long, so we want to give people two separate moments to dive in this year and explore new music that we’ve put our entire being into. We hope you enjoy the creation as much as we’ve enjoyed the process.”

Ash Avildsen (Sumerian Founder) states: “I first toured with BTBAM in early 2000s when they were on Lifeforce. Since then we remained friends and I have watched their career grow nonstop through eras on Victory and Metal Blade. I am very grateful such a seminal, influential and progressive group of musicians have chosen to partner with Sumerian for their next chapter. It’s days like this that remind me of my roots and excite me about our future.”

Savage Messiah sign with Century Media Records

Posted by Morgan Ywain Evans on Tuesday, August 29, 2017 at 7:54 PM (PST)

Metal Riot dutiful readers might remember the incredibly good Savage Messiah from an interview we did with them in 2014. The UK band will release a new album October 27th, 2017 as a late year entry into cool records this year, as if year end lists didn’t already have enough to contend with!! Ha, but all seriousness this band is killer and the good folks at Century Media were wise to scoop them up for their 4th album. The record is called Hands Of Fate.

I was supposed to see mighty black metallers Marduk tonight and my ride bailed at the last minute so I have been home stewing and drinking lemon tea all night, but this news makes me cheer up a bit. I love seeing hard working metal bands survive and grow. Metal is one of the coolest genres because fans are so real that it is possible with elbow grease and support to keep going if this music is your passion. Much respect to Savage Messiah!

Recorded at Rockfield Studios Monmouth (Black Sabbath, Rush, Queen), Hands Of Fate was produced by Scott Atkins (Cradle of Filth) and mastered by Dave Collins (Metallica, Soundgarden, Linkin Park). The cover art, as seen above, was completed by Travis Smith (Avenged Sevenfold, Opeth).

Title track “Hands Of Fate” is also available as a digital single on all streaming and download platforms along with being offered as an Instant Grat track on iTunes and Amazon. Love the intro to this one. Reminds me of good Megadeth/Metallica for sure with def a little “Enter Sandman” vibe.

Grave Pleasures sign to Century Media, “Motherblood” looms

Posted by Morgan Ywain Evans on Thursday, June 22, 2017 at 4:24 PM (PST)

Century Media has wisely signed Grave Pleasures, one of the best bands in the world right now. Arguably the current buzz band of death rock (and actually really good), Grave Pleasures return with Motherblood this year. Recently the band has been supporting Killing Joke and has been molting into a new era.

Motherblood was recorded at Orgone Studios in the UK (Ghost, Paradise Lost, Ulver). It has been scheduled to a worldwide release for late September/early October 2017.

Mat McNerney comments on the albums concept and music:

“Like the great sacrament of ancient times that was the blood sacrifice of the mother, we too have laid down our most holy flesh at your feet. This record, which is a bold re-definition of death-rock and our totemic challenge to our pretenders, shall be our most grand and sordid testament. If you have never danced with the skeletons, then this album is your gateway drug to all the nihilistic pleasures of the grave. Apocalyptic post-punk never sounded so desperately bleak and wild yet never grinned so maniacally and writhed so fervently with tongues that whip the tombs. The Kali figure of our cover is the eternal icon of nuclear fear. She presides over the religion of an apocalyptic future. A desolate future we proudly celebrate with caustic music of the most furious punk. Come imbibe and wash your mind in our Motherblood. We’re dancing in the lion’s mouth. The elevator only goes down.”

New Hampshire metallers Vattnet have shortened their name from Vattnet Viskar and have released a new song entitled “Dark Black” via Brooklynvegan.

The band has signed with New Damage Records, which will release the band’s upcoming full-length worldwide. Check back with Metal Riot as album details will be announced shortly.

Bassist Casey Aylward says:

“This is definitely the first riff that kicked off the record and solidified the direction that we knew we wanted to aim for going forward. As for lyrics, it’s about people in your life that consistently let you down, the people around them down, and of course themselves down. There’s a point where there is really no helping them because you realize that ultimately their freedom of choice will supersede anything you could do for them, and even if you cut them out of your life, you and others can still be collateral damage. It can be a dark thing to completely give up on humans or to be given up on.The title is an attempt to add a futile amount of humor to the subject, dark comedy if you will, dark black. Macabre.”

Kalopsia sign to HPGD Productions, “Angelplague” imminent

Posted by Morgan Ywain Evans on Tuesday, April 25, 2017 at 2:31 PM (PST)

New Jersey death metal band Kalopsia have clear old school influences but clobber hard enough to kick new school “brootal” fans right in the hoo-ha. Damn, there are some seriously heavy moments that have, like, Chaos A.D. level neck whiplash and fist pumping groove intensity in their track “Destined To Return”.

The band are poised to reach more ears as they have just signed to Horror Pain Gore Death, a terrific choice for the label and group that is sure to thrill metal fans. Pre-order their forthcoming record Angelplague HERE. If you are into anything from new super heavy stuff like Enterprise Earth balanced against the more traditional death metal of Jungle Rot or, say, Sodom’s dark but insistent and not overly cluttered yet still adept writing, you will prob be super stoked on this.

Sons Of Famine sign to HPGD

Posted by Morgan Ywain Evans on Friday, March 24, 2017 at 3:15 PM (PST)

Chicago based evil ragers Sons Of Famine have signed to Horror Pain Gore Death Productions. The band are not just a buncha edgelords, rather a collection of metal disciples including current/ex members of CorpseVomit, Lividity, Gigan, Kommandant, Summon, Yakuza, Nachtmystium, Evil Incarnate and Imperial Savagery. Though their facebook says they are “…anti-everything, and we hope you die a miserable death!!” That is slightly edgelordy. Thanks! They rock a lot, though. So…Hails.

The band have released their new EP entitled Alcohol And Razorblades as a Digital Album for only $4.44 ! Congrats to them on working with one of the cooler labels out there. Cheers to all.
