German sludge and grungers MANTAR are one of the hands down coolest and most explosive bands in rock. Good news for fans…they have just signed with Metal Blade!
After the self-released cover EP Grungetown Hooligans II (2020), the band is currently finishing up the work on their 4th studio album, slated for a summer 2022 release. Keep your eyes peeled for more news to follow soon!
The band comments: “As a band with a strong DIY background it was very important to us to work with a true independent label that not only respects but encourages our artistic freedom and visions as a band. Physical products still mean everything to us and Metal Blade is still one of the top players in that game. With a dedicated team of true music fans and enthusiasts in Europe and in the US we are happy to have found a new home for our band and motivated worldwide partners for new Mantar tunes.”

Good news for fans of shit that doesn’t suck happening:
Prosthetic Records is proud to announce the signing of New Jersey based post-sludge-metal band SUNROT. To mark the occasion, SUNROT have released a brand new single, available exclusively via Bandcamp, titled 21%. The single has an accompanying noise track as a B-side, which was created in collaboration with ErosLovesYou. Work is underway for a full length album which will be released under the Prosthetic banner in due course.
The track features clean vocals – a first for SUNROT – and represents the closure of one chapter of the band and the start of a new one. Vocalist Lex Santiago comments:
“21% was written a few years ago and has been played live – but we never got around to recording as it’s a bit experimental for us – and never saw it fitting on a previous release. We definitely tapped into some softer textures and tones and got vulnerable with it and it’s refreshing to us to try new stuff while still keeping true to ourselves
“The song uses the story of Icarus as a metaphor for a bipolar cycle of depression, mania, and psychosis. The depression being banishment to the labyrinth, the mania being flying through the sky with wax and feather wings, and the psychosis being the moment he flew too close to the sun and burned up the wings and fell. I experienced this cycle myself in 2018, including hospitalisations which left me feeling like I was never going to be able to get out of institutions and the cycle of pain and terror I was in. It was a long road out of that and this song was really healing to finally put the words to it.
“We really are just a bunch of goofballs with big hearts, that’s why we wanted to release it on Valentine’s Day! Let’s be honest, it’s a day that sucks for most of us so we wanted to remind anyone listening that we love you and will be your Valentine this year if you don’t have one.”
The digital single will be released on other digital platforms at a later date, joining the rest of the SUNROT discography, which includes the 2017 album Sunnata, which has been on heavy rotation at Prosthetic Records HQ.
Prosthetic’s Becky Laverty said: “We’ve been fans of Sunrot for a few years now, and when our paths crossed we started to discuss the possibility of working together. Their blend of sludge, noise and post metal coupled with their enthusiasm and passion for creativity makes them a really special band.”
Lex adds: “We are so excited to be working with Prosthetic and to be on their roster of fantastic bands and among great friends! We’ve had so many great folks give us amazing opportunities to get us to this point, and signing with a label who believes in us and the art we make feels great! Thank you Becky, Steve, EJ, and the rest of the Prosthetic team for welcoming us aboard!
Stay tuned for more SUNROT news in the coming months.

RUBY THE HATCHET have signed a deal with Magnetic Eye Records, joining the label as its biggest signing yet. The meteoric rising psychedelic rockers from New Jersey will release scorching new material in 2022 via the label.
Singer Jillian Taylor describes what’s ahead for RUBY THE HATCHET: “Our next album is going to encapsulate 5-plus years of musical growth. Multiple members have become singers and songwriters within the band, and listeners will hear new voices and directions picking up right where ‘Planetary Space Child’ left off and expanding upwards. Ruby has evolved a lot through our touring years, and there has been much to reflect on over the last year specifically. Our first foray with MER is going to be a major ear tease for what’s to come with the upcoming full-length. On our last US tour supporting Kadavar, we stopped into Earthquaker HQ in Akron, Ohio, for a session before our show that night. It was the dead of winter and we were trying out two new songs throughout the tour that the band was super excited about. At this point, we had been road-dogging for a few years straight and felt very much in the pocket. When we listened back to the session after returning home, we couldn’t believe it was live… Jeff France and the Earthquaker crew had captured us in the height of our tour tightness, and as soon as we brought it to MER, they agreed that this live session deserved a special release of its own. We like to take our time and truly try to challenge ourselves with every release, so thank you to everyone for waiting. It always feels as if we first embark by writing outside of our abilities, like trying to lasso wild horses in the dark, but now we’re saddled up and ready to ride.”
On the signing, Taylor continues: “This next group of songs really scratch the itch of rock and roll progression for us, and taking them to Magnetic Eye Records is something we are incredibly excited about. The gang had such a good feeling upon initially working with Jadd and MER several years back for our contribution to their Pink Floyd Redux releases. They were one of the first labels we saw doing curated cover compilations and reaching out to bands organically to get involved. Ruby has been in the game for a while now, but we keep it pretty simple and centered around the craft, something MER picked up on and made easy… no frills, just people digging music. Ideas and communication flow freely with them, and we are really looking forward to all the fun collaborations this partnership will bring.”
MER’s Jadd Shickler welcomes RUBY THE HATCHET: “Magnetic Eye took some big steps in 2020, and started to think about bands we’d always loved to imagine on our roster but hadn’t felt ready to approach previously”, reveals the label director. “Ruby the Hatchet immediately leapt to my mind. They’re masters at taking inspiration from decades of rock history and creating fresh, progressive, captivating songs. And live, there’s just no one and nothing like them onstage in this century. I couldn’t have been happier to find them excited at the prospect of working together, and I’m really stoked at the ways Magnetic Eye’s scope is expanding thanks to the arrival of bands like Ruby, Heavy Temple and Besvärjelsen. I can’t wait to see this all reach critical mass in 2022, and hope the fans of what we do are just as excited!”
RUBY THE HATCHET’s “Live at Earthquaker” 7-inch EP will arrive near the beginning of 2022. Their new full-length album will be released later in 2022 as well, and is being recorded with PAUL RITCHIE (The Parlor Mob, gods) at New Future Studio in Belmar, NJ.
The band have announced the following upcoming performances:
9/18/21 – Philadelphia, PA – Johnny Brenda’s • with Heavy Temple, Grave Bathers & Leather Lung
9/24/21 – Seaside Heights, NJ – EJ’s for Cheap Thrills • with Wreaths and Castle Rat
10/3/21 – Princeton, NJ – Terrace F Club
10/29/21 – Asbury Park, NJ – The Saint • with Deathchant
10/30/21 – Brooklyn, NY – Union Pool • with High Reeper & Deathchant
10/31/21 – Boston, MA – The Middle East • with Sasquatch, Lo Pan & Deathchant

ROLO TOMASSI are back. The band can now reveal they have signed to eOne (High On Fire, Black Label Society, The Contortionist) and, in celebration, have today released their massive, brand new single and video, “Cloaked”.
James Spence (vocals and keys) on the signing – “We’re thrilled to be signing with eOne Heavy for this new record. It was an easy decision for us and they’ve been a dream to work with. We’re looking forwards to everything that follows.”
On the signing, Scott Givens, the SVP of rock and metal at eOne explains – “Rolo Tomassi are a band that we have long wanted to have on your roster. We are thrilled they have chosen us to be their label partners.”
Eva Spence (vocals), now based in her new home in New Jersey, USA – “We’re excited to finally share new music after spending the last two years working on our new record. Writing has been essential for us this past year in the absence of playing live, we can’t wait to get back on the road and hope to see you at a show soon.”
Co-lead vocalist James Spence explains a bit more about the new video – “David and James who worked on the video really helped us to bring to life the themes of the song. The narrative visualises the process of change within us with every new experience we have. The themes of dualism and identity are explored through the contrasting colours and the movements of the characters.”
More news on ROLO TOMASSI coming soon.
Marylandy doomy deathy sludgy force of metal YATRA have inked a deal with Prosthetic! The band is crafting the follow up to last year’s All Is Lost and we are expecting great things! Seriously, this is fantastic news as the band already (like Haunt) spoiled us in 2020 with multiple astoundingly good releases.
Of the signing to Prosthetic the band commented: “We are very happy to be working with Prosthetic Records, and super excited about this new album that we have just recorded. It is our best album yet, and a crucial step for us in the evolution of YATRA as a band, in the darkness of this changing world we are living in. “

Reaper Entertainment proudly announces the signing of the German thrash metal legends TANKARD.
In 1982, when four longhaired metal maniacs from Frankfurt am Main, Germany decided to found a band named TANKARD, nobody expected them to still be going almost four decades later. Not to mention being at the top of the German thrash metalscene! But they are still alive and kicking, and throughout these years there’s barely been a blip in their path!
Now, the band signed a world wide record deal with the up-and-coming label REAPER ENTERTAINMENT EUROPE.
The band states:
“We had really great and successful years with Nuclear Blast, not least because of the sensational collaboration with Florian Milz and Andy Siry.
We are all the more happy to continue the success story with Flori on his own label Reaper. We expect from our new label not only full-page advertisements in all relevant daily newspapers, but also at least one placement in the Top 10 of the official German charts with our next album! Otherwise there`s riots……………stay heavy , thirsty and healthy!“
Flori Milz (Managing Director of REAPER ENTERTAINMENT) states:
“My time with Nuclear Blast probably wouldn’t have been so great if we hadn’t signed my favourite Hessians from TANKARD at some point. A great friendship developed between me and the band. I flew along to shows in other countries as tour manager/merchandiser, was dragged to all kinds of stages by Gerre and often got lost in pubs with the guys. When I left Nuclear Blast, I set myself the goal of bringing TANKARD to my own label REAPER – come what may. And I am overjoyed that this has now worked out and that we will continue to write the history of the band together. Welcome to the Reaper-Family – and now, lets get wasted!”
TANKARD are going to enter the studio later this year to record the Soundtrack for the 40th anniversary.
More Info about the new album soon.
Even if a lot has changed over the last three decades, one thing has remained the same: TANKARD are four metal maniacs from Frankfurt – authentic, loud and sometimes drunk. And this will likely stay the same for the next 40 years!
Continuing the long tradition of elevating the best metal bands to even greater heights, Metal Blade have officially signed ENTHEOS. The band’s new album and Metal Blade debut will arrive in 2022. Everyone is stoked for this era of the band as a formidable duo (with more touring guns hired live, I believe I recall).
Entheos members Navene Koperweis and Chaney Crabb comment: “We are incredibly excited to announce that we have signed with Metal Blade Records. Metal Blade is a pillar in the metal community and consistently releases music from many of the world’s greatest bands. We are proud to be associated with such a label and look forward to our future working together. Six years, two albums and many tours later, it is just the two of us, and we want to prove that the heart and soul of Entheos is not only far from gone, but that in this iteration, we can still deliver the best and most passionate release that we have created.”
Kudos to the band for not being deterred by change and forging their path ahead. Both members are very talented. Let’s gooooo!Add to My Radar
Armageddon Label will release the debut EXIL release on July 23rd, a whirlwind of social commentary in the form of Swedish hardcore. 11 tracks, 26 minutes. Gnarly! Hear the rip roaring and speedy “Maniac” on the Greetings from Sweden – Quarantined Hardcore vol 1 compilation HERE.
Interesting snippets from the press release:
Three quarters of the band are born and raised Umeå Hardcore. Their paths have crossed before, going back some 25 years (see below). But EXIL are based in Stockholm. It’s a hellish neo-liberal experiment of a capital city: Ayn Rand’s own privatized garden of lust, or an even shittier 50 Shades of Grey with Rich Uncle Pennybags-gone-Pinhead as the dom and we, the people, as the subs.
EXIL play fast, stupid music with smart lyrics permeated with a sense of alienated bleakness. Much of the lyrical bantering deal with the above, life in the big city, and the mind-shattering daily life of modern Western society. It exposes how economic injustice is expressed in an urban environment, with parasitic landlords and immense gentrification that pushes all culture that doesn’t conform to lame middle-class norms to the absolute periphery of cities like Stockholm.
BESVÄRJELSEN have penned a multi-album deal with Magnetic Eye Records. The Swedish forest rockers will release their sophomore album via the label this year and also contribute a track to the forthcoming “Back in Black Redux” homage to AC/DC.
BESVÄRJELSEN comment: “We are extremely thrilled to be joining Magnetic Eye Records”, writes drummer Erik Bäckwall. “We know that we have come to the right team as we will be joining an amazing roster on this renowned label. In all modesty, we think that we have written our finest material yet for the new record, so we are very much looking forward to record and share it with the world as soon as possible!”
Jadd Shickler welcomes the Swedes: “I feel extremely privileged in welcoming Besvärjelsen onto our roster and I promise that the world of heavy music will be floored by what this amazing group does next”, comments the Magnetic Eye Records label director. “Having been part of the heavy rock underground for some time, I am fortunate to know many great musicians going back quite a few years. Sometimes such artists re-emerge with new bands and projects and I am lucky to be one of the first to hear about them. The very moment that original Dozer drummer Erik let me hear material from his new band Besvärjelsen, I knew they were something special and magical. Altareth, Heavy Temple, and now Besvärjelsen, 2021 is shaping up to be a hell of year for great bands joining Magnetic Eye Records.”
Hello and good day to everyone except those stonewalling relief checks (of course they want them to arrive at last during tax season so they have to be given right back) and the fucking utter scumbags who stole Lady Gaga’s dogs and shot her poor trainer.
So yeah…I needed some good news today and we have it in the form of a killer doom signing!
Bold and experimental doomers Body Void have signed to tastemakers Prosthetic. The duo are one of the coolest bands I found during my tenure on the dumpster fire of Twitter. The group will release Bury Me Beneath This Rotting Earth 4/23 and you can pre order HERE today. I guess they recorded it in New Hampshire last year. I might stay up all night and then drive to that state tomorrow to impulsively go wired on caffeine to America’s Stonehenge, incidentally.
Read an in depth interview and hear massive new single “Wound” today at Metal Injection HERE.
Liking the shriek vocal on this one and the black and white footage was gorgeous. Strap in for a thirteen minute Hell-scape.
At Blackheart Sound in Manchester, New Hampshire the two members of BODY VOID worked with producer Eric Sauter, to process their feelings – both those that had been long festering, and those which were new and raw – into the four tracks that make up their third studio album. An additional layer of electronic filth was applied with the help of solo noise musician, and BODY VOID touring bassist, Entresol.
Of the single, Willow Ryan (Guitar, bass, vocals) comments: “Wound is a song not only about the ecological harm we’ve done to the earth, but the spiritual harm we’ve done to ourselves as a result of corporate capitalism. Saving the planet and our collective souls is a singular endeavor. We are the earth in both a physical and metaphysical sense, and we cannot continue as a species if we value profit above all life on this floating ball of dust and debris we call home. We are doomed to extinction if our only mode of existence is accumulation and exploitation.“
And speaking on the signing says: “We’re incredibly excited to join Prosthetic Records. Not only to be part of its historic and diverse roster full of bands we love and respect, but also to join with our dear doomy friends in Bismuth, Vile Creature, and Weltesser. The label has been incredibly kind and welcoming to us and we’re excited to find out what we’re able to achieve going forward.“
Prosthetic Records’ Becky Laverty adds: “I have admired BODY VOID from afar for some time now, so I’m thrilled that we get to work with them on this excellent album. We’re really looking forward to being a part of the BODY VOID story, and seeing what paths it leads us down.”
Bury Me Beneath This Rotting Earth tracklist:
2. Forest Fire
4. Pale Man
BODY VOID is:
Willow Ryan – Guitar, bass, vocals
Edward Holgerson – Drums
There are some bands more adept at riding the chaos than others in the storied history of underground music. From noise and hardcore pioneers like Steel Pole Bathtub to Man Is The Bastard to synth/indie/post-core bands like Six Finger Satellite to numerous grindcore bands like Fuck The Facts, etc.- some groups just embody the concept of "fuck it/let's really go for it" more than others. NY's Black Mesa sits proudly in that same spirit of frenzy and ferocious inventiveness, as evidenced by their recent compilation of insanely manic live performances. Whatever sub genre they throw in the emotional blender, you are bound to enjoy a deliciously nutritious smoothie of muddy sonic punk purée.
