Just watched the awesome first episode of Legion and am now web diddling in pajamas (that isn’t what it sounds like) whilst listening to Demon Lung’s A Dracula and wishing they had a new release soon. What do I spy in my emails? Some great news to share with you rage-o-holics. First, let me thank you for reading us over here in Metal Riot land. Whether every day or once in awhile or this is your MRiot cherry popping and you will never come back, thank you. Writing about and debating metal keeps some of us alive through the shitty parade of mandatory holidays that society crams down our throats, while completely burying cool ones like Saturnalia and National Plum Pudding Day (allegedly that is Feb. 12th and I missed it, who knew?).

Anyway, metal news! Blackened thrashers ALL HELL will release a record on Prosthetic later this year. Scant details are available at this time, but we can share that the North Carolina act’s latest is called The Grave Alchemist and sports some sexy kinda campy but still cool vampire art!

Victory Records sign Spain’s hardcore pride We Ride

We Ride Promo 2016

We Ride from Spain bring their taut and tense brand of hardcore to Victory Records, the latest in a string of solid signings like Forever At Last and Broadside. We Ride are ready to make bigger waves and will likely find quite a few new fans with their frenetic brand of punk rock.

“Signing with Victory Records is the reward of seven years of hard work and also a motivator to deliver the goods,” promises vocalist Mimi Telmo. “It has not been easy to be taken seriously in a man’s world. Especially in today’s political climate, it is beyond critical that women support each other. I want to be a positive figure for females involved in the hardcore punk scene. Personally, it has been difficult at times, many feeling offended there being a front-girl in hardcore. ‘Self Made’ is about breaking the stereotypes. Victory is the label that wrote the book on hardcore and it’s an incredible feeling to be a part of it. This is just the beginning and we are here to stay.”

WE RIDE hit the studio in 2016 with Alex Cappa at Metal Factory Studios outside Madrid, and the album was mixed in early 2017 by Cameron Webb (Motorhead, NOFX). The ten track blitzkrieg features Deez Nuts front-man JJ Peters on the track ‘What You Are.’

New song “Self Made” premiered originally at Alt Press and you can watch it below.

Full body bruisers Harm’s Way are one of the heaviest bands around, up there with Crowbar , Sleeping Giant and Xibalba for some of the most crushing low end and craziest pits. Their landslide inducing crusher Rust  was like some ungodly glorious team up between Cro-Mags and Godflesh and many people took notice. Now the band with perhaps the most jacked front dude in hardcore are signing with Metal Blade in a move that will surely benefit both parties and the scene.

Harm’s Way is expected to release their fourth full-length and Metal Blade Records debut in 2017.

Harm’s Way comments: “We are very excited to be working with Metal Blade Records. Their longstanding history in the alternative music community speaks volumes. To join a roster of such highly influential artists is truly an honor. We look forward to the next steps we will be taking as a band on both personal and artistic levels. “

Metal Blade Records CEO Brian Slagel adds, “Super excited to be working with Harm’s Way! We welcome them to the Metal Blade family. I have been a fan since Chris Santos turned me onto them!”

Almighty hardcore champs Burn recording new album for Deathwish

Posted by Morgan Ywain Evans on Friday, November 4, 2016 at 10:23 AM (PST)
Led by vocalist Chaka Malik and guitarist Gavin Van Vlack, Burn are responsible for pushing the boundaries of hardcore since their inception in 1990 (Note: Chaka is one of the best front dudes ever). After over a decade of silence they reactivated in 2015 playing festivals in the U.S. and Europe. Burn later supported Bane on legs of their farewell tour, as well as Deftones for a number of shows. Equally appealing to different generations of heavy music listeners in their own unique way.

Burn are currently recording a brand new album with engineer Kurt Ballou (Converge) at God City Studios. The album will be released on Deathwish in 2017.
Burn will be playing the UK and Europe on the “EMP Resistance Tour” alongside Suicidal Tendencies, Agnostic Front, Municipal Waste, Walls Of Jericho, Down To Nothing, and Mizery. Dates Below!

Hooded Menace sign to Season Of Mist

Posted by Morgan Ywain Evans on Wednesday, October 12, 2016 at 8:56 AM (PST)

Finland’s perhaps darkest band Hooded Menace have a new home at Season Of Mist. The crushing and ominous, sobering sounds of this oh so devoted to the doom death outfit will be a great fit at the respected label.

Regarding their signing, HOODED MENACE comment, “We are stoked to join the very diverse roster of Season of Mist. This is a rather logical step onward on our path. New possibilities under new circumstances. We have exciting plans for the next HOODED MENACE album and we are glad we have a strong, forward-thinking label backing us up.”

Some new tour dates are below as well.

Unendlich sign with HPGD

Posted by Morgan Ywain Evans on Thursday, September 22, 2016 at 9:59 AM (PST)

If you ever played Ravenloft you learned that a Lich was like the most evil fuckin’ thing you could come across. To this day I still get slightly scared if I hear the word. Anyway, Unendlich have signed with Horror Pain Gore Death and we are stoked over here. The first song “Way Of All Flesh” (nothing to do with mighty Gojira) is gnarly. Unendlich are from Baltimore and display a charred, open mawed death gape awareness of various extreme metal sub-genres (particularly of the black metal variety). Scales Of Existence is due Oct. 28th, just in time for spooky time.

Beloved groove thrashers Byzantine are set to prove the To Release Is To Resolve comeback album was no fluke. An as yet untitled record is due very soon from Metal Blade! This is huge and well deserved for such a seasoned a

Front-man, Chris “OJ” Ojeda had this to say about the band’s recent signing: “For the last few albums, we have operated outside the fringes of the music community by necessity. I had almost lost hope that we would ever have the chance to showcase our music to the world on a bigger stage. With the help of Brian Slagel and Metal Blade Records, we feel like Byzantine has been given a 2nd chance to make our 1st impression. We are absolutely thrilled at the opportunity to share our brand of heavy music with the world on the world’s best metal label!”

The strength, raw talent, and absolute ease at which these West Virginians shred is a thing to experience, and it’s just a matter of time before they rise the ranks to become one of Metal’s elite!”

Lizzy Borden solo artist Metal Blade deal

Posted by Metal Riot on Monday, March 21, 2016 at 10:10 AM (PST)

Lizzy Borden has spent over three decades creating some of the most theatrical metal in existence, releasing classics such as Love You to Pieces (1985) and Master of Disguise (1989), while obliterating audiences worldwide with a stage show that rivals that of Marilyn Manson and Alice Cooper. For his efforts, he has become nothing short of a metal icon. Now, to take the next step in furthering his career, Lizzy Borden has signed a worldwide solo artist deal with Metal Blade Records – the label that helped to launch him to commercial success over 30 years ago. Ready to once again captivate both veteran and adolescent metal fans alike, Lizzy Borden plans to release a new album in 2016 and tour the world in support of it, with a reinvigorated band backing him up.

Lizzy Borden comments:
“I am extremely happy to re-sign with the same label we started with all those years ago (Metal Blade Records). I’m excited to be working with Brian Slagel and all the Metal Blade family again. It’s been my home for all six of our (full-length) studio albums – with the new record being the seventh, and the start of a new series of albums to come.
My focus for the last several years has been performing live and exposing my brand of American metal to countries all over the world. Now I feel is the right time to step back and push the re-start button. Time to get back to the art of creating new music. Touring around the world and having new fans discover Lizzy Borden for the first time has been rejuvenating, and so a new album seems like the perfect way to bridge the past with the future.
I will take this part of my journey and these next series of albums as a solo artist, as I have for some of the past LBrecords and tours. I look forward to working with many different established musicians and friends, as well as some undiscovered talent like we have been lucky enough to unearth in the past. To all of our fans that have followed Lizzy Borden from the beginning and all the new younger fans who have just discovered us, I hope you will come along with me for this next chapter. I am inspired, excited and ready to begin again. @realLizzyborden”

Stay tuned for more news about Lizzy Borden coming soon!

Prosthetic Records teams up with jazz prog act Watchtower

Posted by Morgan Ywain Evans on Tuesday, February 16, 2016 at 11:52 AM (PST)

PROSTHETIC RECORDS will be releasing legendary progressive metallers WATCHTOWER‘s recent digital-only tracks on LP and CD. The four tracks will be combined with one brand new song, creating the EP “Concepts of Math: Book One” and will be released on limited edition vinyl and digipack CD later this year.

Comments vocalist Alan Tecchio:

“I am so stoked to be a part of this legendary jazz-metal-prog group once again! Right now we are close to finishing the tracking for the additional 10 minute song that we are adding to the other four tunes. This will complete the EP that Prosthetic plans to release later this year. I can tell you that the new song is especially super cool and has that classic Watchtower sound. I think the fans, both new and old, will have a deep appreciation for what is going to be available from us later this year.”

Guitarist Ron Jarzombek further remarked on the partnership:

“I’m psyched to be on the same label as my old friend Marty Friedman! Prosthetic has also been home to great bands like Gojira, Animals As Leaders, All That Remains, as well as my fellow Texans, Scale the Summit. It’s nice to know we are in good company on this label. The music we’ll release later this year picks up right where we left off with ‘Control And Resistance’.”

Incantation back with Relapse, Bandcamp streaming past releases

Posted by Morgan Ywain Evans on Thursday, February 11, 2016 at 9:51 AM (PST)

Relapse Records is extremely proud to announce the re-signing of legendary death metal pioneers INCANTATION! The band, who originally signed to the label in the early 1990s and released some of the most influential extreme metal albums of all time, including Onward to Golgotha (1992), Mortal Throne of Nazarene (1994), Diabolical Conquest (1998), and The Infernal Storm (2000), has come full circle to reunite with Relapse for its forthcoming 10th studio album. INCANTATION, an institution for over 25 years, remains hands-down one of the most important, influential and consistently regarded artists in metal, and the band’s new material is sure to be no exception.INCANTATION’s entire back catalog is now available for streaming via the band’s Bandcamp page AT THIS LOCATION.

The band is currently recording its upcoming full-length at their own Incantation Studios in Johnstown, PA. The album will be mixed and mastered by Dan Swano (Bloodbath, Asphyx, Dark Funeral) and is expected to be completed in February with a release date slated for this summer. Upon completing the album, INCANTATION will head to Europe to tour with Morgoth, Darkrise and Omophagia. INCANTATION members John McEntee and Kyle Severn commented on the re-signing:”2016 is off to a great start for Incantation Death Metal!!! We are extremely excited to announce that we are returning to the Relapse Family. They were there a quarter century ago when Incantation and Relapse were both starting their careers, so to be able to come full circle and release our 10th studio album with them is truly amazing and we are looking forward to the release and touring this record later this year!!!!” -Kyle Severn

Yes it is true we have returned to Relapse Records. Over the last 8 years we have been working with them on various projects with great results. It’s awesome to start a new chapter of the band going back to our roots and working with the label that believed in us back in 1990 when we were still a demo band. It’s great to work with a label that still believes in us in 2016 and still believes in the perseverance of real death metal.” – John McEntee
