Gold are really good. You should listen to them. I classified them in our power metal category only because if Gold played power metal that would actually maybe be the weirdest experimental music ever and very rad. They DO play their own awesome kind of music, which is different than what many bands are doing. Optimist has some sweet jams. "White Noise" has a great intro. Prepare to be melted in a metallic wash of BM, post-rock and plaintive melodic musings.

Ray West of Spread Eagle fame has a newer project called Weapons Of Anew hard rock fans will eat up. Ray has always had a commanding yet hooky voice and is capable of hitting you with numerous styles. I had the pleasure of interviewing him about ten years ago (already) for Crusher Magazine and he is such a chill dude. Kriss Norris (ex-Darkest Hour/Scar the Martyr) is part of the group now as well and a record hits in September.
Some fans may be hip to Weapons of Anew already as they worked in the studio with James Murphy of Death/Testament fame and have toured with Alter Bridge. Now the group are hitting the road in the Fall with the classic hard rock band Tesla. Unless you are a new school rock fan, you don’t need anyone to tell you this will be a solid tour. If only Tesla play something from Bust A Nut and WOA cover a Spread Eagle song we can make new little metal babies. Sorry, couldn’t resist that terrible joke. But for real, anyone who can’t appreciate Troy Luccketta is a traitor to metal, haha.
Anyway, check out Weapons of Anew’s recent “Killshot” below (it has kind of a Nonpoint/Fozzy vibe) and get prepped for a rocking time.Add to My Radar

Black metal agitators Marduk will buck the odds and return to North America once again as they have revealed dates this fall for the “Frontschwein North America Tour: Part 2”. Fresh off an Antifa controversy, it will be interesting to see if this tour goes off without a hitch. I personally hate anti-semitism but Marduk have said they before that they write about the horror of war and Morgan Steinmeyer Håkansson has been nowhere near as obtuse or opaque on the subject when pressed as more evasive bands. Lemmy sang about WW2 and collected a wide array of historical stuff from different sides of the conflict and he was not a Nazi, for example.
Honestly I am more concerned by Incantation on this tour who I have often dug the music of but have heard various rumors about regarding closeted racism that I hope are not true. If anything, Marduk underscore how terrifying the world can be.
That said, I happen to really enjoy Marduk’s music and am not generally fond of boosting things I think are maybe problematic without at least mentioning it. Marduk are not on that list and Abysmal Dawn fucking rule.

The Discussion is the new post-punk/goth/rock band from vocalist and guitarist Laura Pleasants of Kylesa fame. Pleasants has always been very versatile and we are stoked to hear more from this latest endeavor (also feat. Derek Lynch and Richard Adams).
The band have a pretty substantial European tour mostly booked for this autumn with more dates TBA, so if you can catch them as they develop their swing you’ll be able to tell people you were there later on. Should be some super cool shows.

L.A. electronic/nu hard glam rockers 9Electric will share the stage with OTEP for the final stage of The Resistance World Tour. The Convalescence of course recently had problems with Otep and are no longer part of the tour but on a personal level Otep has always been super awesome, articulate and chill with us over here at Metal Riot. While we have of course never toured with her we know lots of bands who have and it is def the minority who have ever bitched about her. For the record, it is hard to imagine a person who helped me come out as bi and who has given some of the more succinct and real interviews I’ve ever gotten to be a part of as so unreasonable to work with.
Anyway, keeping it posi…the remaining dates with 9Electric are sure to be fun for those attending. Check out “The Damaged Ones” below. Kind of reminds me of a cross between Opiate For The Masses, Sixx:A.M. and Adema.
Speaking about joining Otep on their remaining US tour dates, 9Electric frontman Ron “Thunderwood” comments, “9Electric is so stoked to join Otep on their Resistance Tour! Here’s a scene comprised not simply of music fans, but fans of something deeper – fans of art, and fans of an unflinching quest for self-realization. Otep inspires people the way all great artists should, and 9E can’t wait to contribute to this scene.”Add to My Radar
Zaum are not your average doom band, combining sitar, bass and drums with mantra and lengthy compositions to electrifying effect. The more esoteric side of OM comes to mind a bit here and there but really this band are on mostly their own trip and it is well worth discovering for new fans. Recent album Eidolon is a rewarding late 2016 release you might have missed.
Now the group are set to tour Canada in August with their friends in Flying Fortress. Dates BELOW.Add to My Radar
