I think I first read about Foreseen in Alasdair Bulmer’s POWER FROM HELL column for New Noise? Was awhile ago so I forget. But the crossover thrash and the stark yet so metal sounding album name Helsinki Savagery had me wanting to be sold before I even heard it. They were fast as fuck and gnarly and the cover art had like 7 albums worth of skulls on it and a grim reaper looking monster with big hypo needle and a freaky little emaciated person inside the open robes like The Ghost Of Christmas Present was about to get Ignorance and Want hooked on smack. And a skeleton dude wearing a denim jacket training a pissed off dog in the background for seemingly no reason other than it is cool to see a denim jacket wearing skeleton. I remember when I was in the Misfits tribute band Wolfsblood w Andy Animal before I was replaced by the way cooler and prettier Leah Fishman (now of PMS & The Moodswings)…anyway, I remember that Andy really wanted to also start a band called Denim Skeleton. Or maybe there already was one? Was it all a dream?

Anyway, Foreseen are back with a new album on the rad as heck 20 Buck Spin called Grave Danger! Can’t wait to hear this crossover cross burner boner inducing rage roaster! The cover art this time isn’t as off the rails but is nonetheless still super awesome. The band kick off a tour on 4/21 stateside and we have the dates BELOW.

The Browning robbed in Italy

Posted by longhairedpoet on Saturday, February 18, 2017 at 6:15 PM (PST)

Kansas City beat-droppers in The Browning were robbed on tour in Italy. It happened in Milan on Thursday.

Over $10k worth of things were stolen, including all of the band’s equipment and some of their luggage. The band has had to cancel the rest of their European tour, which was scheduled to last through early March.

From the band:

“The list of things taken is extensive and the cost to replace everything is over $10k, not to mention all of our luggage and clothing. Most heart breaking of all, they have stolen all of our musical equipment. We literally have no way, to play our music live as our show files lived on 3 laptops, and 4 separate external hard drives, all of which were stolen. We have to cancel the rest of our European tour and we have to rebuild our live show from scratch.”

The band has started up a GoFundMe, stating, “We have never asked for our fans help because it should only be done when completely necessary, and to be completely honest, we NEED your help.”

Check out the video for the GoFundMe here and head directly to the GofundMe here.

Here at Metal Riot we really appreciate the music that the folks in The Browning make and we hope that they are able to raise the money they need in order to keep making the music they love.

Posted by Metal Riot on Thursday, February 16, 2017 at 1:46 PM (PST)

Looking for perhaps the current angriest new band in Deathcore? Beatdown enthusiasts Spite will not be tamed and bring their very low tuned, blood gargling sound to stages in the Spring. They have commented on social media to expect some new tunes in the mix as well as maybe older fan favorites from the Misery EP. The band are working on new stuff for Stay Sick , so stay tuned. OR if not ,“Why don’t you go die like the frog looking fuck you are and croak?”

Prog-Death Trio DISCHORDIA Finalize Tour Dates For The Wastelands Tour

Posted by Morgan Ywain Evans on Wednesday, February 15, 2017 at 5:27 AM (PST)

In just a few short weeks Oklahoma-City based prog-death trio Dischordia will be hitting the road for The Wastelands Tour. Joining Dischordia on the tour is St. Louis natives Quaere Verum.

The “Bone Hive” video from Dischordia reminds me of some crazy alliance between Meshuggah, early Soulfly and Neuraxis. Very cool. I think our readers will really dig this.

The tour dates can be found BELOW, and here is hoping it is a great one!

Venom Prison announced as direct support for Suicide Silence

Posted by Morgan Ywain Evans on Tuesday, February 14, 2017 at 2:19 PM (PST)

One of our current top favorites Venom Prison have been announced as direct support for Suicide Silence on an upcoming brief UK run. This reflects well on Suicide Silence. Honestly, Venom Prison are on fire right now and while Suicide Silence are great live…well, Venom Prison are hungry and out to take heads right now. If the sound guy doesn’t duck down the levels of the opener like in many wussy tour packages, there is actually a risk Venom Prison could hand Suicide Silence their ass a little bit (except of course the crowd will favor the band they know better). Still, I love when headliners are down with not having shit openers to make themselves look better and I would skip across the pond not to see these dates (and to escape “Agent Orange”) lickety split if I could.

Whether you like what some have dubbed “Kornicide Silence” or not, these shows will be dope.

The early days of Suicide Silence pushed us into wider ranges of heavier music and diversified our influences, there is no doubt that Suicide Silence are an influential and phenomenal live band to this day” remarked VENOM PRISON.

Extreme music is an impressively broad spectrum, and if anything, fans are deprived of the opportunity to explore and diversify their tastes in the same way that we did, due to increasingly tight and niche sub-genres. This tour provides an opportunity to spread our debut full length ‘Animus’ to yet another audience and it allows those fans to embrace a newer band like Venom Prison, with whom they may not yet be familiar.”

Hooky hard rock buzz band Paralandra announce The Alive Tour dates

Posted by Morgan Ywain Evans on Thursday, February 9, 2017 at 2:28 PM (PST)

Hard rock band PARALANDRA have just announced The Alive Tour 2017. The run will kick off on April 7 at The Regency in Springfield,MO and will see the group stopping to visit LAUNCH Music Conference on April 14 and 15 before wrapping at Indigo Sky Casino on April 22. After signing with CB Entertainment Artist Management firm in 2016, their latest EP titled All Fall Down debuted at Number one on Billboard Heat Seeker NW Charts.

It is not so often a band with slightly more commercial potential stops me in my tracks, despite my love of Lady Gaga’s new Joanne record, for example. I am usually more inclined to gravitate first towards pretty unlistenable shit in the rock spectrum, indie and dance/goth notwithstanding. But unless something is the latest Maxi Wild pop/industrial or something super chill like Wild Beasts new video, I generally head towards death metal territory these days. Black Star Riders is gritty and quintessential hard rock in my book, so I don’t mess too often with semi-cleaner sounding stuff.

That said, despite sounding ready for radio, Paralandra deliver on all counts with huge melodies, solid rock writing and- most importantly- feeling. Hard rock falls apart when it is missing the element of passion, which is why I will still dare my more extreme metal pals to watch the new Papa Roach video for “Crooked Teeth” and ask them seriously to tell me that Jacoby and his band aren’t super giving their all in the clip. The energy is undeniable even if it isn’t your favorite style first and foremost.

But a lot of people LOVE hard rock the best. That’s fine. There is certainly a place for straight up rock songs and, honestly, we need people to defend the genre now as Pop Evil and Disturbed (who are actually really nice dudes) have done, cuz rock regularly fights an uphill battle these days. Fans of Evanescence, Halestorm or even Filter and Chevelle should check out Paralandra and will likely have a new favorite act to boast about.

Upcoming, they will enter the studio in Los Angeles with famed Grammy winning Producer/Engineer Dave Dominguez with a new release scheduled for later in the year. You can visit the Official Paralandra website for the latest news, tour dates and more!

The Alive Tour dates BELOW.

Weedeater announce US Tour

Posted by Morgan Ywain Evans on Monday, February 6, 2017 at 7:02 PM (PST)

Weedeater are probably a band who would be more popular if they didn’t frankly frighten the shit out of most poseurs and squares. Whatever. It hasn’t stopped the grisled doomsters from pushing their heavy stone forward undaunted. Goliathan was one of their finest hours, a slaughterhouse of onerous vexation that is perhaps Dave Collins’ most bad ass sounding recorded hour with the veteran group yet.

Ample support on this trek comes from ASG (I saw them once live trashed and they were so good I actually remember it, albeit as a warm, fuzzy, riffy melodic glow more than a traditional “memory”), and a band called Beitthemeans who I have never heard but who look pretty cool.

Dates and some ear bleedery for ya below.

Abbath to tour with Amon Amarth in Latin America

Posted by Morgan Ywain Evans on Saturday, February 4, 2017 at 5:00 AM (PST)

Lucky Latin American metal disciples will get to rage hard when Amon Amarth bring their melodic death Viking glory to warmer climes with black metallers Abbath along for the trek. These frosty gentleman will hopefully adjust to the warmer climes of Lima and Bogota as they rage with some of the most die-hard fans in metal. Hope some of these shows get filmed because it is likely going to be an insane tour. Black metal and death metal used to rarely be bedfellows, which I always thought sort of diluted the extent to which metal could spread a darkened claw across the globe. I know black metal started as cultish elitism, but it doesn’t hurt to have converts actually listening to your band across the spectrum. Abbath and Amon Amarth are an inspired pairing of two of the bigger, more extreme bands of the hour. Hails! The only question now is will the bands travel there on an “Ocean Of Wounds” or “On A Sea Of Blood”? Perhaps by plane.

ABBATH, which “shows the singer and guitarist further exploring his trailblazing combination of frostbitten Norwegian black metal and more classic metal elements.” (Guitar World), is available now in stores and at the Season of Mist E-Shop.

Mastodon to release “Emperor of Sand” in March

Posted by longhairedpoet on Sunday, January 29, 2017 at 2:53 PM (PST)

Atlanta metallers Mastodon have announced the release date of their latest album Emperor of Sand.

The album will come out on March 31 via Reprise Records.

In support of the release of the album the band have announced tour dates. Mastodon will be supported on the tour by the Eagles of Death Metal and Russian Circles.

Emperor of Sand is like the grim reaper,”says drummer/vocalist Brann Dailor. “Sand represents time. If you or anyone you know has ever received a terminal diagnosis, the first thought is about time. Invariably, you ask, ‘How much time is left?’”

“We’re reflecting on mortality,” adds bassist/vocalist Troy Sanders. “To that end, the album ties into our entire discography. It’s 17 years in the making, but it’s also a direct reaction to the last two years. We tend to draw inspiration from very real things in our lives.”

Check out the full list of tour dates and the track list for Emperor of Sand here.
