Salutations once again cretins. I sat down with The Black Dahlia Murder‘s guitarist Ryan Knight and drummer Shannon Lucas to get some thoughts on natural disasters, DrawSomething and increasing their audience reach. Their most recent release, Ritual, has gained them a great deal more spotlight and I hoped to uncover what they plan on doing to continue that momentum. I then realized at the show later that night, their loyal fans are what keeps them going.

Here’s yet another deft description of my darling and I’s many death metal date nights. The destination for this evening of ear-splitting enchantment was to be Irving Plaza in New York City, The Black Dahlia Murder, Nile, and Skeletonwitch our marks. Inside was deceptively small, but not overflowing with heads. We managed to navigate quite nicely through the various merch tables, though lacking a fair amount of brutality in the wears. As for the show, we arrived just in time for Skeletonwitch to take the stage thrusting me right into photo mode in front of the Garnette brothers. Bring it on.

A full debrief over the show and some shitty amazing pictures await you on the next page.

Album Review: The Black Dahlia Murder – “Ritual”

Posted by NichTheHair on Saturday, June 18, 2011 at 2:45 PM (PST)

Someone once asked me: “What happened to the good old days where metal was completely lathered in Satan?” It appears those days are back with The Black Dahlia Murder‘s latest offering from Metal Blade, “Ritual.” Damn cretins, this is definitely going into my top five for the year. Right at  jump street, this had me completely possessed. From the symphonic intro to the closing insanity of “Blood in the Ink,” this album refused to relinquish its unholy hold on me. Vocally visceral and monolithically melodic with a decimating drum and bass foundation, The Black Dahlia Murder have composed a spectacular symphony of death. This album shows them as an impenetrable phalanx, in complete unison and very well composed.

I’d first like to say thank you to The Black Dahlia Murder and Metal Blade for hooking it up with a pre-release copy of this album. You f’n rock! Secondly, you all need to move your virtual asses now and listen to “Ritual,” which is streaming here. I don’t want to say too much about this because I have a review I’m about to drop on this album, but I will say this cretins: you need this in your life.

Here’s the band’s thoughts: “Finally, we get to reveal our labor of satanic love, “Ritual”! Turn out the lights, turn up the tunes, and let the night entrance you!”

“Ritual” hits stores next tuesday on Metal Blade.

Detroit Melodic Death Metal band The Black Dahlia Murder has released the final single from their upcoming fifth full-length album “Ritual.” The album is due to be released June 21st in North America and June 17/20 in Europe through Metal Blade Records.

Vocalist Trevor Strnad comments: “This stomper of a track is about a man who has been trapped in a body of stone… a golem, so to speak. He is driven insane by his bondage, and begins a violent rampage against human kind in search of the druids who condemned him. This song is one of the heaviest on the album… the main riff reminds me of Robocop marching along. Pump your fists!”

Detroit’s deathly melodic quintet The Black Dahlia Murder unleash another beast from the cage this week as they ready for the onslaught release of “Ritual.” Their fifth studio album is due out June 21st from Metal Blade.

Vocalist Trevor Strnad comments: “It brings us great pleasure to reveal another track from our latest endeavor, Ritual! Conspiring with the Damned is a quick melodic track about bringing a curse into your life by messing with an Ouija board. The lyrics were informed by a series of stories told to me by a friend who claims to have been tormented and robbed of his innocence at a very young age by a demonic force he had been in contact with. This is one of my favorite tracks from the album, and I think it embodies the horrific vibe of Ritual perfectly. Bang your heads!”
