Last winter I thought maybe I would never have the opportunity to see OTEP in concert when she announced that Hydra would be her last album.

But then came along the “With A Vengence Tour” and on October 24, I had the great fortune of seeing not only OTEP, but the interesting band of misfits she’d been raging across the country with – and OTEP and tribe both came out in full force to make this a night to remember.

Check out how the night went here.

Interview: OTEP – Fuck You, Forever

Posted by Morgan Y Evans - Walking Bombs on Tuesday, February 12, 2013 at 1:12 PM (PST)

Let’s follow up our recent Metal Riot Otep album review with a one/two punch interview with the outspoken lady herself. As many fans know, Otep has stated that the recent HYDRA (Victory Records) will be her last album of metallic fusion rock catharsis. After numerous full lengths, building a massive online following and years of touring (including remaining one of the most outspoken hard rock voices during the plastic, exploited patriotism of the Bush years), Otep Shamaya is moving on to do other things. Is this record a fitting send off? You bet.

This is the 4th time I have interviewed Otep and each time I have been really pleased with the depth of her answers and willingness to discuss things many “keepin’ it real” bands shy away from. Check this out and celebrate Otep’s career with Metal Riot.

We discussed the finality of HYDRA, Gun Control, amnesia in society, her graphic novel, LGBT, metal genre snobs and keyboard cowboys plus lots of other fun stuff. I wish every interview was as much fun as the times I’ve gotten to talk to Otep. Horns up and speak out.

A Final Angsty Word: Album Review: OTEP- “Hydra”

Posted by longhairedpoet on Monday, February 11, 2013 at 9:05 PM (PST)

OTEP - Hydra

I’m a sucker for powerful openers, and in Hydra (released via Victory Records), LA metallers OTEP quietly, but powerfully, lead us

into a chant of “Rising like a Hydra, from the abyss!” in the opening song, Rising. And it gets your blood pumping.

Even though this is slated as OTEP’s final album, make no mistake, this isn’t an album about bowing out, quitting or giving up. It’s an album about scratching, clawing and climbing through this shit world we live in. This album is violent, poetic and sometimes melodic. It’s a beautiful, painful masterpiece by the band that’s been making angry, painful poet-metal for thirteen years now.
And in this respect, this album doesn’t relent from the anger and angst OTEP fans have come to know and love. If anything, it steps it up a notch.

OTEP release sixth and final album Hydra

Posted by longhairedpoet on Wednesday, January 23, 2013 at 6:33 PM (PST)

Confrontational poet-metallers OTEP have released their final album, Hydra, yesterday via Victory Records.

Victory Records had this to say on the release:

“OTEP’s final album Hydra is out today, January 22nd and is already climbing the iTunes charts; currently at #8 on the Rock Chart and #78 on the Overall Chart. Hydra takes listeners on a fantastical, demonic ride through the mind of a girl who has been cast aside, set on vengeance against the world that has forgotten her. Seducing your ears with every aspect of the vocal spectrum, the artist, activist and poet will put you in a trance, creating a theater of the mind the likes of which you have never imagined before.”

Interview: OTEP-Raised Fist Atavist

Posted by Morgan Y Evans - Walking Bombs on Wednesday, August 10, 2011 at 3:50 PM (PST)

Hard rock/metal fusion poet OTEP recently completed the ATAVIST TOUR with fellow hard-chargers Destrophy, Blackguard, One-Eyed Doll and Sister Sin, a package that was one of the finest and loudest overall tours of the summer. The variety of great bands and energy of the shows was killer and were an inspired, great way to celebrate the release of one of Otep Shamaya’s best releases, the very realized in vision and expansive ATAVIST (Victory Records).

Even in an age when more and more people can’t be bothered to feel there are STILL bands that fight to keep heavy music alive and well, sharing a primal sensibility.

Click HERE to read an interview with the always outspoken Otep about ATAVIST as well as quotes from members of Blackguard and Sister Sin on what made the tour so special.

This interview also includes many exclusive live tour pics of ALL THE BANDS!
