Band Spotlight: Warbringer

Posted by Morgan Y Evans - Walking Bombs on Wednesday, June 17, 2020 at 6:25 PM (PST)

California thrash upstarts Warbringer have returned to settle the score and cement their long term legacy fully with sixth album Weapons of Tomorrow. “Firepower Kills” probably ought to open all their future shows, just a complete stage setter for chaos. “Crushed Beneath The Tracks” and “Power Unsurpassed” in particular show this band would have ruled 1988 with ease and contain maximum neck injuring/ fist pumping potential (along with notable Slayer-worthy wraith shrieking). I am not 100% on the semi-thin snare sound but it hardly distracts the band’s performances are all monstrous on this bad boy. Exodus, Annihilator fans or of course fans of more new school speed thrash bands should get all over this one. \m/

Hey folks. Hope you have all bought an Integrity facemask and are enjoying Ice T destroying the morons in Trapt on Twitter today. Fucking nu metal vanilla energy drink gym buddy system band thought they could talk shit? I have to laugh. Y’all were probably too scared to listen to Body Count growing up like it was saying Candyman 5x and Ice would appear and Home Invasion album cover your parent’s goofy asses. Then you’d have had no one to buy your gear or give you rides, lmao. Headstrong can = obstinate and moronic, just sayin’. Anyway, buy the new Body Count album!

While Maga folks pissed at sane quarantine rules block Ambulances from saving lives in Michigan I am home in Upstate, NY today listening to “Thick Skin” by Limp Wrist, trying to find my cat’s laser pointer mousey chase toy before she kills me and pondering a lot how many musicians unable to tour right now are going to be adjusting to the harsh reality that the music industry was even less propped up than they thought. Your rock star illusions are a vanity in 2020 and we need to all get back into the idea of punk as an activist lifestyle community rather than a series of exchangeable personality cults. That said, plenty of great bands are hurting right now so please hit up some Bandcamp’s if you can. Plenty of bands (Darsombra especially has been killing it and shout out to White Hills as well), have had cool live streams going on. Saint Vitus Bar has had cool programming as well.

We’ve got brutal almost punk energized death metal from Centinex today to kick some music news off for you. Pre order some killer vinyl options of the band’s forthcoming Death In Pieces from Agonia HERE today. The album is out May 29th, 2020 and will likely make quarantine more of a crime scene.

SoCal thrash metal force Warbringer will release their highly anticipated full-length follow up to 2017’s acclaimed Woe To The Vanquished, entitled Weapons of Tomorrow, on April 24 via Napalm Records. The band has now unleashed a new video for the grandiose album closer track “Glorious End,” which in theme with the album’s concept, presents itself as a war epic narrated by an exchange between two close heroes – father and son.

Check out the brand new lyric video below, and witness the somber tale and splendiferous sound of “Glorious End.”

Warbringer vocalist John Kevill says: “‘Glorious End’ is the grand finale of Weapons of Tomorrow, and a first-person narrative war epic. The verse is done as a father-son dialogue, in which the son promises the father that he will live up to his ancestor’s legacy of courage, honor, and duty. The song and title have a cruel twist of irony, as the protagonist’s bravery is rendered useless by the horrific new weapons of his time, and he questions the virtues of his father as he dies. This kind of narrative storytelling element is something we feel is pretty unique to Warbringer among thrash metal bands. The music is hard-charging and aggressive, but also somber, grandiose, and well, glorious. The epic side of Warbringer is something we haven’t shared in a single yet, and we thought it was long overdue. Now onwards, brave sons.”

Warbringer announce new single & European tour

California thrashers Warbringer have announced that they are preparing to release a new single, “Power Unsurpassed,” digitally (August 17) and on Vinyl (August 24).

Vocalist John Kevill on “Power Unsurpassed:”

“We are putting out a single, “Power Unsurpassed,” so we have some new material for you all this summer, as we gear up to write and record our 6th record. It’s designed as a total neck-breaker, with hammering riffs and a shredding solo. It is about people who want to take orders from no one, and to make their will reality- at any price. We’ll be playing this when we return to Europe this month, at festivals and alongside Sepultura. It has been a good year since we invaded European shores, and as always we look forward to delivering completely savage live thrash metal to all in attendance. We will play a mix of material from Woe to the Vanquished, the previous 4 albums, as well as the new single “Power Unsurpassed,” which we expect will completely crush in the pit. There’s a mixture of club dates and festival appearances, but as fans know, Warbringer will bring total aggression to any stage, anytime, anywhere. Europe- You’re Next!”

“Power Unsurpassed” was produced by Mike Plottnikoff (In Flames, Fear Factory) and mastered by Howie Weinberg (Slayer, Metallica). With the album artwork by Hugo Juarez.

Warbringer premieres new video for “Black Sun, Black Moon”

Posted by longhairedpoet on Thursday, November 7, 2013 at 12:55 PM (PST)

Los Angeles thrashers Warbringer have premiered a music video for their song “Black Sun, Black Moon”.

“Black Sun, Black Moon” comes off of IV: Empires Collapse which is out now, via Century Media Records.

Vocalist John Kevill had this to say about the video:

“We went out to the most desolate stretch of highway we could find out in the Mojave desert. It’s a fitting location for this song, which is a motorin’ heavy metal tune, with a Priest highway-rollin’ type feel crossed with the forbidding mysticism of the night!”

Los Angeles thrashers Warbringer are set to release their newest album
IV: Empires Collapse on October 15 via Century Media Records.

Drummer Carlos Cruz had this to say about making the new album:

“Musically, all five of us brought something for the rest of the group to work off of and we were all a part of chiseling away at the ideas. Having five band members with eclectic tastes in music from Crust Punk to Progressive music and everything in between brought about new musical directions for the material.”

Warbringer enters studio

Posted by longhairedpoet on Thursday, June 27, 2013 at 2:22 PM (PST)

Warbringer Los Angeles thrashers Warbringer are entering the studio to record their fourth album.

The upcoming album is tentatively scheduled for an October release.

Drummer Carlos Cruz had this to say on entering the studio:

“Moving forward with our 4th full-length album has been a tremendous feat for the band and we are proud of the album we’ve written. The growth of the band with two new members (guitarist Jeff Potts and bassist Ben Mottsman) has produced a very eclectic sounding album that covers a lot of musical ground within the Heavy Metal genre. It’s been a true collaboration and all five members have been able to write and contribute something new to the collective WARBRINGER sound. We hope all our fans will keep an open-mind towards our musical growth, but we promise no one will be disappointed.

Deciding to work with Steve Evetts again was the best decision for the group because of our prior experience with him. His personality, attention to detail and ability to sonically capture what the band represents will make for an amazing 4th album experience. Two years is a long time to improve upon your craft, so we’re excited to see what has become of Steve as a producer, and for him to see what has become of WARBRINGER since our last album. Looking forward to recording in the Summer So-Cal heat!”

Warbringer guitarist Adam Carroll leaves band

Posted by SeanB on Tuesday, January 31, 2012 at 6:19 AM (PST)

I have to admit, I’m slightly Jealous of anyone who got to see Warbringer play with Death Angel this weekend.  Apparently the thrashers have just revealed that their longtime guitarist Adam Carroll has decided to leave the band and that was their last show together.  All I can say is wow.  I first saw them a few years ago with Finntroll and am planning on seeing them at Wacken this summer, so I really hope everything works out.  They’re a hell of a band and those are going to be tough shoes to fill.

They aren’t wasting any time though, and have announced young guitarist Andrew Bennett will be filling in on the upcoming tour with Iced Earth and Symphony X.  They are hoping to eventually add him as a permanent fixture, and really what better proving grounds are there than being on the road?

Click here to read statements from Adam and Andrew.
