The hardcore and metal community are in shock and very sad from the breaking news that legendary NYHC guitarist Todd Youth has passed away. He leaves behind a legacy of creativity that saved countless people’s lives. Hardcore will never be the same.

Todd’s Fireburn bandmate Ras Israel Joseph I (also of Bad Brains Rise fame ) posted on Facebook:

On the passing of my friend, and my Brother Todd Youth
There are no words to express how sad I am at the passing of my brother Todd Youth. The music he made will forever be remembered, and I’m so thankful that I was able to work with him and that we created Fireburn together. Todd and I were living separate lives doing hardcore and reggae music. We met each other in 1992 and then never spoke again until 2017. We created Fireburn within two weeks of knowing each other and finished writing two of my favorite hardcore records that I ever worked on: “Don’t stop the youth”, and “Shine”. Closed casket records signed the band and we were on our way. We had great shows and lots of people showed up to them. We toured with gbh from England, hung out with the guys from Negative Approach, and got our blessings about our music and our records from the Bad Brains. I know that Todd is now resting in peace and I know that Krishna is taking his soul to a better place. He was a devout Hari Krishna and The Devout human being. Todd wherever you are I hope that we will make music again one day. Life is a circle and I know I’ll meet you again in that circle brother. We will meet again. Rest In Peace, Rest In Power, rest my brother. I am saddened that we cannot make music again together, but I am happy that you are finally going home to be with Krishna that Haile Selassie has finally giving you peace and comfort my brother. one day, I too will lay down and die. This body that I ware is temporary. I will probably be alone. They’re probably be no one around me. However I know that I will join you and all of our other friends in that good place and we’ll all see each other again. I’m sorry you died Todd. I’m sorry I can’t see you again. I’m sorry I wasn’t there to help you. You are my friend and my brother and I love you. Rest in peace my brother. May your visit to our Heavenly Home be full of peace, and comfort, and closeness to Krishna. Haribo. Haile Selassie I. FIREBURN.

Everyone hates when they are at a show and it is a sea of cell phones held aloft. It can block the view, it really takes you out of the moment and just feels kind of desperate. Some great bands such as A Perfect Circle and Danzig have been strict or outright hostile enforcing a no cell phone policy, and I understand that. In the case of an Earth show I was at once, Dylan Carlson is at risk from flash photography, if I recall. That is a reasonable excuse to want control over what goes down.

Bands like to say ,”Be here with us” or “share the moment”. I get that. Be present. It’s a once in a lifetime show. YouTube and IG clips can promote but also detract from attendance as people get lazy and watch from home or the secrets of a live performance are laid bare (not always fair for people who shelled out cash to actually show up).

I used to be really dismayed by phones up the whole time instead of lighters, but post Bataclan, Ariana Grande’s show bombing in the UK and Las Vegas, I feel very differently. I think it is outright irresponsible to ban phones unless you have a good medical reason. Otherwise your vanity could result in less eyes being available to document all manner of things. It is also why I think body cams and people filming cops is a good idea, on a related note.

Honestly with concert shootings , as much as it sucks at times, bands need to stop entirely with the no phones bullshit. A million phones up instead of lighters is shitty but I’d rather that than miss footage that could ID a criminal or show abuse by security, etc. Even in low light you could catch a stabbing or gun person who might fade into crowd. Call me paranoid but shit is crazy.

I know this is a sort of straight to the chase think piece but I thought I would put it out there as food for thought and discussion today. Hope you all enjoy whatever concerts you are attending safely (except for in the pit, of course).

Danzig is one of my all time biggest musical heroes. By far. I defend him generally no matter what. I really believe in a lot of his material and was in a tribute band with Andy Animal that was one of the best experiences of my life – Wolfsblood. That said, he is an adult and has the resources to do research and cite credible sources if he is gonna cause ripples that endanger real women and Muslims. On a Memorial Day when Trump blanks on properly honoring a 23 year Army vet in Portland who was killed stopping white supremacy because it might offend Trump’s KKK fuckboi fanbase who are too dumb to notice they have done more domestic terrorism than Muslims except the ones Trump turns a blind eye too if he does business with them, I don’t need Danzig spitting bs about border shit and 1950s gender roles or disinfo about Planned Parenthood that Alex Jones republipunks will take as Gospel cuz they beat off to the cover art of Black Laden Crown before even being sure if it was done by Simon Bisley or not.

Tommy Victor is one of my favorite heroes as well. This kind of casual BS affects a lot of fan bases AND endangers women. Real women. Not hypothetical babies. Not 1950s fake good old days that never were good in the first place from an intersectional perspetive. No last caress. Do not pass go or collect a skull. FUCK OFF with that shit. Way to super alienate a life long die hard and the numerous women in my life who would be dead if the rhetoric Trump is now spewing and cronies who amplify it is allowed to run rampant. Guess what, most fake Christians spreading the gospel according to pro life are dumb and misinformed as a fucking post Christ was never really crucified on, you cucks to kleptocracy. Die for oil, suckers.

Danzig has been around the world. Go to Mississippi and see how easy it is for women there. Don’t need extra fuel on the fire for ignorant citronella bonfires.

Worry about the production on your last few albums sucking and being a far cry from the glory days even with good songwriting! And in vicinity of the Misfits reunion scrutiny of what comes next THIS is how you choose to move ahead during a promotional time? Fuck off with that shit.

“This is the modern world. We don’t need no one to tell us what’s right or
wrong.” – The Jam.

The Jam’s 2nd album came out in 1977, but we still could relate to the
sentiments expressed in the title track to The Modern World today. It is very
interesting to me how the 80’s and early 90’s seemed the decades of the greatest “shock
value” or censorship battles and today we still have moralizing pundits and morons like
Donald Trump or fake christians who denounce people as trash or sinners yet
support racist platforms or heinously compassion free social positions.

At the same time that we live in an age of gamergate and twitter battles
against “the evils of SJWs”, we have morphed into a culture where Nothing’s
Shocking– not because of conjoined topless twins with their heads on fire or
whatever titillated in the early rock alternative days when Jane’s Addiction
popularized the phrase, but because any carnival barker like Trump gets
absorbed into the overall white noise (even when they lead the headlines).
Thus you can seemingly say anything as long as it bleeds and leads and yet the
deeper contextual meaning is lost, ramifications be damned. Like George Bush
literally lying out of his ass about the Iraq war constantly, for example.

So what I’m saying is, God bless John Oliver or Pussy Riot for injecting some content back into the mainstream. Or a band like death metal’s Jungle Rot who released the awesome Order Shall Prevail this year, which looks at issues like marshall law.

We live in a time of a glut of pop and even political desperation. Politicians
will say anything to get elected. Pop stars are rewarded for portraying edgy,
co-opted looks and styles but towing the corporate line.

Protest black friday and read more BELOW.

Unholy Passion, Batman!!!

Pete from Baroness is the “Special Guest Guitarist” in Samhain.

From Facebook:

We’re incredibly excited to finally start talking about this. Pete might be the biggest Danzig/Misfits/Samhain fan i know, and he’ll be playing a series of Samhain-headlining shows this fall, the first full Samhain shows since 1985. I think every musician secretly dreams of joining their favorite band onstage but it never seems to actually happen. We’re all really excited for Pete.

Interview: Doyle – Hope Hell Is Warm

Posted by Morgan Y Evans - Walking Bombs on Friday, November 29, 2013 at 10:06 PM (PST)

Doyle Wolfgang von Frankenstein. One of the more intimidating characters in the heavy music spectrum, the former Misfits guitarist oozes testosterone and campy horror mixed with genuine menace. What is there to say about The Misfits? I mean, seriously. One of the most important bands that mutated my whole life down a haunted toilet, the Misfits were the true soundtrack to so many awesome punk rock memories. I was in a Misfits tribute band for awhile called Wolfsblood with Andy Animal and some friends. Playing “20 Eyes” and “Astro Zombies” at keg parties with my cruddy friends was some of the most fun I ever had in my life.

I jumped at the chance to interview Doyle about his new album Abominator, why he changed the band name from Gorgeous Frankenstein and other ghoulish topics. Abominator is one of the toughest records of the year. Not “tough” in a difficult listening or “so complex John Petrucci from Dream Theater masturbates to this” kind of way, but rather “tough” as in zombies chewing through boiled leather, hellhounds on your trail, cemetery sexxx kind of way.

Remember when Glen Danzig got Knocked Out?

Posted by tyrusrunyan on Friday, May 25, 2012 at 10:08 AM (PST)

LA Weekly posted a really interesting interview with Danzig. The article touches on him getting knocked out, stalkers, action figures and slicing throats. First off Glen Danzig is a fucking legend but this article reeks of bullshit from front to back. You can judge for yourself here.
