Not many albums can serve as revelation and entertainment, teacher and confidante, mystical portal and emotional rescue, yet Lunar Nocturnes and Esoteric Incantations manages all this and more. Massachusetts dwelling synthesizer magic-user Jenn Taiga charts course for one of the most highly memorable musical destinations of 2021, and by that I mean the album is a world unto itself. Light and dark, welcoming and inhospitable...sometimes in the same song. A deep meditation and major statement. Fave track: "Braziers are Burning" Tridroid has the cassette version HERE.

Congratulations to February’s Cover Art of the Week Winner, Elvenking. “Red Silent Tides” (AFM Records) quickly gained the lead and never gave it up, as they finished with a dominating 59% of the vote.
Elvenking had this to say about their win: “We are very honoured the fans of metalriot.com chose “Red Silent Tides” cover as best cover of the month. As a band we have always been very focused on creating covers in order to fully represent the musical contents of the albums. ”Red Silent Tides” shows all the passion and emotions described in the album music and lyrical poetry. Samuel Araya did a marvelous job bringing on colours and images the romanticism and struggling of the album.”

How many of you Metal Rioters out there have gone to your local record store of choice and picked up a new metal album solely based on the art that graces its cover? I have found many a hidden gems and a few utter disappointments but there are few things greater in this world than gently cracking open the liner notes for the first time as the smell of ink and paper washes over you.
In the world of iTunes and Pandora, the art form that is the album cover is slowly dying. But we’re here to remind you that in the world of heavy metal, the art of the album cover is alive and well! So each Tuesday we’ll present to you the best album covers of the week to declare what we all already know – Heavy Metal is art.
So welcome to another episode of: KICK ASS ALBUM COVERS OF THE MONTH!!! (insert blistering guitar shred here). It was an interesting week watching Stratovarius “Elysium” (Edel Music) battling it out with Defiled “In Crisis” (Season of Mist) but ultimately Stratovarius came out on top.
We missed the first few months of 2011 so we are now giving you the opportunity to let us know what the Album Covers of the Month should be. This week we’re heading back to February. For a look at the Top 4, head on over here and make sure to VOTE.Add to My Radar
Drummer Zender has left the Italian folk power metallers Elvenking for “personal” reasons and has been replaced by Symohn.
The band comments the news:
“We had a wonderful journey with Zender in these long 12 years. Thinking about where we started together back in the time and what we have achieved along the path, it really looks incredible. We were a bunch of kids when we started together with nothing but a dream, and now we are here. We cannot feel anything but proud and we are sure Zender feels exactly the same.
“Being in a band like Elvenking it is not the easiest thing in the world, since you are not that big to live out of your passion, but you’re big enough to have a lot of stress, busy days, lots of things to do and manage, long travels, flights, etc. etc. The split has been in total friendship and with no bad blood at all.”Add to My Radar
