CINEMA CINEMA join us today with a new track! The band sometimes sound like Attila Csihar got into devilish mischief inserting hidden messages into back alley Sergei Prokofiev compositions instead of smoking a doob and listening for Satan’s commands in the bridge of “Stairway To Heaven” like normal rockers, so I was excited to see what they have cooked up next! The answer is…”Bratislava”!

The nine minute song is an enthralling exploration of feel and musical adventurousness as the band weave through dynamic peaks and valleys during their at times relaxing and at times anxious (but entirely intriguing) journey. At times it comes off like a Pinback and Don Byron slow burn mescaline voyage, which is obviously fucking amazing.

Ev Gold tells us:

“Things got chaotic in our attempt to leave after the gig in Bratislava, on tour a few years ago. I had to walk out into a lane of oncoming traffic with my hands up, to plea for a halt. Seemingly no way possible to back the van out otherwise. There was a protest outside of a castle a few blocks away from the show, which at first sounded ‘cool’, but wasn’t after all. People and cars flooded the streets. Our place to crash for the night fell through, now we needed to leave Slovakia and drive to Vienna to sleep. We finally made it out and got to a quiet stretch of road over the border, then heard sirens. Pulled over by Austrian Law Enforcement. It was a saga. Deserved a song years later.”

The song precedes the band’s sixth album, CCXMDII, nearing release in August through Nefarious Industries.

CINEMA CINEMA was established in 2008 by Brooklyn-born cousins, vocalist/guitarist Ev Gold and drummer Paul Claro. They’ve been described as “experi-metal punks” by the Village Voice, a “jolt of adrenaline” by BrooklynVegan, and “feral and unrelenting” by Big Takeover.

In 2019, the duo joined with Nefarious Industries to release their fifth album, CCXMD. Taking a stylistic left turn from any previously recorded output, they found themselves delving into ambient and atmospheric free-jazz territories. CINEMA CINEMA invited reed aficionado Matt Darriau – best known for his work with Grammy award-winning world-music ensemble The Klezmatics – to join the group for the collaborative, entirely improvised affair. Darriau had been a guest on the band’s 2017 LP Man Bites Dog, providing saxophone on a handful of tracks. The album was described as, “no-holds-barred punk-jazz,” by Brooklyn Rail, and, “as intelligent as it is unintelligible,” by Invisible Oranges.

CINEMA CINEMA now presents their sixth full-length, CCXMDII, which serves as companion and conclusion to 2019’s CCXMD. Woodwind expert Matt Darriau returns, bringing along more tools from his repertoire as the trio submerge themselves in the strange beauty of chaotic sound, found together in the moment. CCXMDII was engineered, mixed, and mastered by Vin Cin at Electric Plant Studios in Brooklyn, New York, with artwork, design, and layout by Lauren A. Kelley.

Nefarious Industries will release CCXMDII on CD and all digital platforms on August 20th. Find preorders including merch bundles HERE and watch for additional audio previews and more to post over the weeks ahead.

Touring extensively through the past decade, CINEMA CINEMA has performed over four hundred fifty shows across eleven countries. The duo has toured numerous times alongside SST Records founder Greg Ginn, including a fifty-plus-date 2014 North American tour opening for Black Flag, select dates supporting Black Flag in 2013, and shared dates in 2010, 2011, and 2012 with Ginn’s other outfits The Royal We and The Taylor Texas Corrugators. In addition, the band has half a dozen European tours to their credit, including a 2013 stint in support of Martin Bisi Band and a run of Summer festivals in 2016.

CINEMA CINEMA appears in and has contributed music to the critically acclaimed 2014 documentary Sound And Chaos: The Story Of BC Studio. The band was also included on BC35, a celebration of the 35th anniversary of BC Studio – alongside members of Swans, Sonic Youth and other studio alumni, released via Bronson Recordings in 2018.

A surprise 2 song Walking Bombs covers EP for you folks today, recorded May/June during quarantine. The artists Gridfailure and Globelamp helped with various elements on the EP as well.

All ongoing sales of this release will be donated to the Marsha P. Johnson Institute: marshap.org#

#blacktranslivesmatter #pride2020

Here are two lo-fi covers I did this Spring from home with additional support from Gridfailure and Globelamp on certain aspects. It was unintentional, but both songs deal with different aspects of relating to the concepts of self and relationships.

“I Can’t Stand” is one of my favorite Zola Jesus songs and covering anything by her is clearly friggin’ daunting because she is so talented, like a miraculous forest spirit. I think it is cool we have the same birthday. I wanted to focus on feeling the emotion and letting it be my own respectful manifestation of a song I love which I find incredibly moving. People can find themselves alone for many reasons, especially for being different. I wrote Nika and asked if it was ok to try to pull off and she gave me blessing to cover it, which was super awesome. It was also wonderful to have Gridfailure and Globelamp help me with recording different elements for max vibe!”

“Jealous Again” is one of the most aggro Black Flag classics and, frankly, I wanted to yank some of the frankly awful machismo out of it and make it a melodic but twitchy sort of examination of the mechanics of paranoia (without revealing if it’s unfounded or not). Now with Dave Brenner’s help it sounds like a wet cave full of ghosts. The slight organ added was fun because it is this monstrous thing that has apartment hopped with me and my partner and we never plugged in much until now. Oh, and I snuck a Biz Markie Easter Egg in there.” – Morgan Y. Evans

It still rocks though and was super fun to crank out before I get full bore working on my next album.” – Morgan Y. Evans

“Whatever you may see. The change resides in me. Fluidly. Any genre any dream sphinges, sibling selves and queens. A rollercoaster for each moment mood or picture frame. Please love me the same.’ from “Observation Deck/Shinges Sibling Selves And Queens”

I identify as multi-gender at this point, after a lot of research and therapy and trans groups and not feeling quite like what other people were discussing wrapped up my experiences similarly in a bow. I know that can be confusing for people. They are like ,”what do you want? It has to be this or that.” Nope. MYE.

This is a lengthy interview conducted in July by Kriegmaster Hatesturm of the great anti fascist agitators Neckbeard Deathcamp, kind enough to inquire into the guest artists, overall album background and the reasons behind prominent multi-gender/non binary themes on my new Walking Bombs album Sphinges, Sibling Selves and Queens. The album is out now via Nefarious Industries HERE.

Read the interview BELOW and thank you.

Danish hardcore punks OXX are preparing to release their upcoming album The Skeleton Is Just A Coat Hanger; These Are The Black Strings That Make You Dance.

The Skeleton Is Just A Coat Hanger is due out on August 16 via Nefarious Industries. The forthcoming album will be a follow-up to 2017’s Night and the City.

The Skeleton Is Just A Coat Hanger; These Are The Black Strings That Make You Dance, was recorded by OXX, mixed by Klaus “Q” Hedegaard, mastered by ET Mastering, with artwork by Aske A. Hvidtfeldt, photography by Malte Riis, and design by Greg Meisenberg.

Check out a tracklisting and a preview of The Skeleton Is Just A Coat Hanger here.

From their impending fully collaborative musical experiment, Suicide By Citizenship, New York solo outfits WALKING BOMBS and GRIDFAILURE present a new video for the emotive eco-collapse movement, “Bare Shores Bleed.” The video makes is public debut through a premiere at New Noise Magazine as the album nears release through Nefarious Industries next week.

“Bare Shores Bleed” sees WALKING BOMBS’ Morgan Y. Evans on vocals and bass, GRIDFAILURE’s David Brenner on vocals, guitar, electronics, harmonica, effects, and field recordings, album performer and producer Jay Andersen (Surmiser) on drums, and features a cast of guest contributions, including guitar from Brett Netson (Built To Spill, Snakes), vocals from Elizabeth Le Fey (Globelamp), and accordion from Benjamin Levitt (Megalophobe). The video was directed and filmed by Brenner.

With the “Bare Shores Bleed” premiere, Evans offers, “Dave mainly wrote this one, but I was really stoked Elizabeth and I sang on it together as the environment is important to both of us. She got me taking care of my health again and has been vegetarian for fifteen years. I also love the nature of where we live in the Catskill Mountains of Upstate, New York and hate that the world is threatened by the careless march of humanity. Also shout out to Jay for spending extra time on mixing this one as there was so much going on. It is thrilling to hear Brett’s chaotic guitar swells, which remind me of nature’s wrath.”

Brenner offers, “Our planet is in peril. We see some of the most devastating ecological disasters happening right in front of our eyes, we watch species go extinct daily, we clear millions of acres of woodlands yearly, and each of us throws thousands of pounds of plastic into the planet each year. We have an administration who hires rapists of the EPA to run it, and legions of ‘Flat Earthers’ and ‘coal rollers’ simply defying science and common sense. Political affiliations aside, we all need air and water. Our planet is the highest priority to all of us, and it saddens me when I see so much abuse of it every day.”

See WALKING BOMBS & GRIDFAILURE’s emotional “Bare Shores Bleed” video at New Noise Magazine RIGHT HERE.

Nefarious Industries will release Suicide By Citizenship on eco-wallet CD and all digital platforms next Friday, April 26th. Find preorders at the label webshop HERE and via Bandcamp where several other songs are streaming HERE and HERE.

Suicide By Citizenship is an album created to challenge its own creators with the intent of combining sounds from two outfits located on polar opposite ends of the underground music spectrum. The record blends a wealth of genres into a dystopian alloy of improvised jams, rife with discontent for the contemporary state of American politics, and more specifically, the current administration’s actions and policies.

Suicide By Citizenship was conceived by WALKING BOMBS’ Morgan Y. Evans and GRIDFAILURE’s David Brenner who created the album with producer Jay Andersen (Surmiser). In addition to Mike Score, guest contributions from Thomas Andrew Doyle (Tad, Brothers Of The Sonic Cloth), Laura Pleasants (Kylesa, The Discussion), Brett Netson (Built To Spill, Snakes), Elizabeth Le Fey (Globelamp), BJ Allen (Full Scale Riot), Benjamin Levitt (Megalophobe), and more are featured throughout the album, which was recorded and mastered by Andersen, who also plays on the entire album, with additional recording by Brenner who created the cover art.

Nefarious Industries confirms the April release of Suicide By Citizenship, a fully collaborative musical experiment from Hudson Valley, New York solo outfits/collaborator magnets WALKING BOMBS and GRIDFAILURE. The album features guest contributions from a spectrum of artists from the likes of TAD, Brothers Of The Sonic Cloth, Kylesa, All Out War, Built To Spill, Globelamp, Full Scale Riot, Megalophobe, and more.

Incepted by WALKING BOMBS’ Morgan Y. Evans and GRIDFAILURE’s David Brenner who created the album with producer Jay Andersen (Surmiser), Suicide By Citizenship is an album created to challenge its own creators with the intent of combining sounds from two outfits located on polar opposite ends of the underground music spectrum. The record blends a wealth of genres into a dystopian alloy of improvised jams, rife with discontent for the contemporary state of American politics, and more specifically, the current administration’s actions and policies.

In 2016, Evans invited Brenner to collaborate on WALKING BOMBS’ “Demagogue,” an outspoken punk anthem aimed at our 45th president, to which GRIDFAILURE provided a backdrop of chaos and vocals. The unlikely pairing of acts on the track quickly became something both wanted to explore further, penning ideas for a fully collaborative release. They met in late 2017 at Bohemosphere Studios in Saugerties, New York, with studio owner and Evans’ musical counterpart, Jay Andersen. The three tore through several improv jams and that afternoon had a solid structure of what would become Suicide By Citizenship. Through several similar jams over the next few months with the three vagabonds each performing multiple instruments, additional material was recorded by Brenner at The Compound.

Additionally, a wide cast of additional musicians from around the country took part in one or more songs each, the album including contributions Thomas Andrew Doyle (TAD, Brothers Of The Sonic Cloth), Laura Pleasants (Kylesa, The Discussion), Mike Score (All Out War, Below The Frost), Brett Netson (Built To Spill, Earth, Snakes), Elizabeth Le Fey (Globelamp), BJ Allen (Full Scale Riot), Benjamin Levitt (Megalophobe), and more. The audio was mastered by Anderson and the record completed with artwork by Brenner.

Nefarious Industries will release Suicide By Citizenship on eco-wallet CD and all digital platforms on April 26th. Watch for track previews, preorders, videos, and more from the record to be posted in the coming weeks.

Evans states, “Dave and Jay have been stalwart pals in the music scene of mine for ages, so it was awesome to capture this moment in time with them sonically, to say nothing of the other killer guests. This album to me represents people’s faith in the American Dream being exploited, ground up and spit out by gerrymandering, self-important Christo-fascists and unchecked capitalist greed. It’s a total farce to think corruption won’t run rampant in a society with no checks and balances.”

Brenner offers, “While our styles are vastly different, when we got into a room together and hit record things just happened organically. Three friends came in with the concept only; absolutely everything else musically and lyrically bloomed from that. Our planet is in peril, the party governing our country is a disgrace, tensions and turmoil amongst us are out of control, and we’re being divided further apart every day. This album is meant as a cumulative human cry for unification and progression, and a warning shot to the perpetrators.”

Archspire getting things done

Good news and bad news, friends and foes. The obvious good news (if you love us) is that we’re back! In case you noticed, the site has been non functional for a few weeks. A Danzig album was announced, Ratt became the real Ratt again, Scorpions and Megadeth announced a tour and we could do naught but gnash our teeth! I assume none of you got your news elsewhere since you are so loyal to us. Good little hellhounds (pats you on head). But yeah, we got hit with a malware issue due to some infestation that attacked recent Drewdas Priest’s Blaze Bayley album review. We love Blaze and to send malware against a 5 star review of his recent record is basically up there with attacking democracy itself!

The site is thankfully malware free again and we will resume posting starting…NOW! But, the bad news is we lost about a year of content that simply vanished. Even after two sweeps of the old server and some very helpful tech peeps doing their darnedest, the stuff is just gone. There was some killer interview content from Cliterati to Burn to Fit For An Autopsy, tons of news posts (I myself lost about 400 posts judging by my post counter) and even our 2016 year end list. Crom!!!!!!

Some of that stuff is sadly lost for good as it was transcribed right off my phone into our back end. Other stuff will be salvaged as soon as possible. I will personally never talk shit on the new Suicide Silence album ever again because in fact the site went down right after I gave it a 2.5 star review. I would like to say that it is in fact a masterpiece and ten stars is not enough, in case any mad SS fans out there hacked us and infected the 5 star Blaze review as vengeance.

Joking aside, we thought for a minute things were doneso and it is with great joy and the blood of battle coursing in our veins that we can once again shout ,”Onward pounding into glory ride. Sign of the hammer, be my guide. Final warning all stand aside. Sign of the hammer, it’s my time.”

Let there be metal. Let there be riots. Once again we bring you…METAL RIOT!
