Armageddon Label will release the debut EXIL release on July 23rd, a whirlwind of social commentary in the form of Swedish hardcore. 11 tracks, 26 minutes. Gnarly! Hear the rip roaring and speedy “Maniac” on the Greetings from Sweden – Quarantined Hardcore vol 1 compilation HERE.

Interesting snippets from the press release:

Three quarters of the band are born and raised Umeå Hardcore. Their paths have crossed before, going back some 25 years (see below). But EXIL are based in Stockholm. It’s a hellish neo-liberal experiment of a capital city: Ayn Rand’s own privatized garden of lust, or an even shittier 50 Shades of Grey with Rich Uncle Pennybags-gone-Pinhead as the dom and we, the people, as the subs.

EXIL play fast, stupid music with smart lyrics permeated with a sense of alienated bleakness. Much of the lyrical bantering deal with the above, life in the big city, and the mind-shattering daily life of modern Western society. It exposes how economic injustice is expressed in an urban environment, with parasitic landlords and immense gentrification that pushes all culture that doesn’t conform to lame middle-class norms to the absolute periphery of cities like Stockholm.

BESVÄRJELSEN join Magnetic Eye Records

Posted by Morgan Y Evans - Walking Bombs on Thursday, April 8, 2021 at 6:50 AM (PST)

BESVÄRJELSEN have penned a multi-album deal with Magnetic Eye Records. The Swedish forest rockers will release their sophomore album via the label this year and also contribute a track to the forthcoming “Back in Black Redux” homage to AC/DC.

BESVÄRJELSEN comment: “We are extremely thrilled to be joining Magnetic Eye Records”, writes drummer Erik Bäckwall. “We know that we have come to the right team as we will be joining an amazing roster on this renowned label. In all modesty, we think that we have written our finest material yet for the new record, so we are very much looking forward to record and share it with the world as soon as possible!”

Jadd Shickler welcomes the Swedes: “I feel extremely privileged in welcoming Besvärjelsen onto our roster and I promise that the world of heavy music will be floored by what this amazing group does next”, comments the Magnetic Eye Records label director. “Having been part of the heavy rock underground for some time, I am fortunate to know many great musicians going back quite a few years. Sometimes such artists re-emerge with new bands and projects and I am lucky to be one of the first to hear about them.  The very moment that original Dozer drummer Erik let me hear material from his new band Besvärjelsen, I knew they were something special and magical. Altareth, Heavy Temple, and now Besvärjelsen, 2021 is shaping up to be a hell of year for great bands joining Magnetic Eye Records.”

Doom duo BODY VOID sign to Prosthetic, album out in April

Hello and good day to everyone except those stonewalling relief checks (of course they want them to arrive at last during tax season so they have to be given right back) and the fucking utter scumbags who stole Lady Gaga’s dogs and shot her poor trainer.

So yeah…I needed some good news today and we have it in the form of a killer doom signing!

Bold and experimental doomers Body Void have signed to tastemakers Prosthetic. The duo are one of the coolest bands I found during my tenure on the dumpster fire of Twitter. The group will release Bury Me Beneath This Rotting Earth 4/23 and you can pre order HERE today. I guess they recorded it in New Hampshire last year. I might stay up all night and then drive to that state tomorrow to impulsively go wired on caffeine to America’s Stonehenge, incidentally.

Read an in depth interview and hear massive new single “Wound” today at Metal Injection HERE.

Liking the shriek vocal on this one and the black and white footage was gorgeous. Strap in for a thirteen minute Hell-scape.

At Blackheart Sound in Manchester, New Hampshire the two members of BODY VOID worked with producer Eric Sauter, to process their feelings – both those that had been long festering, and those which were new and raw – into the four tracks that make up their third studio album. An additional layer of electronic filth was applied with the help of solo noise musician, and BODY VOID touring bassist, Entresol.

Of the single, Willow Ryan (Guitar, bass, vocals) comments: Wound is a song not only about the ecological harm we’ve done to the earth, but the spiritual harm we’ve done to ourselves as a result of corporate capitalism. Saving the planet and our collective souls is a singular endeavor. We are the earth in both a physical and metaphysical sense, and we cannot continue as a species if we value profit above all life on this floating ball of dust and debris we call home. We are doomed to extinction if our only mode of existence is accumulation and exploitation.

And speaking on the signing says: We’re incredibly excited to join Prosthetic Records. Not only to be part of its historic and diverse roster full of bands we love and respect, but also to join with our dear doomy friends in Bismuth, Vile Creature, and Weltesser. The label has been incredibly kind and welcoming to us and we’re excited to find out what we’re able to achieve going forward.

Prosthetic Records’ Becky Laverty adds: “I have admired BODY VOID from afar for some time now, so I’m thrilled that we get to work with them on this excellent album. We’re really looking forward to being a part of the BODY VOID story, and seeing what paths it leads us down.”

Bury Me Beneath This Rotting Earth tracklist:
1. Wound
2. Forest Fire
3. Fawn
4. Pale Man

BODY VOID is:
Willow Ryan – Guitar, bass, vocals
Edward Holgerson – Drums

HEAVY TEMPLE sign deal with Magnetic Eye Records

Posted by Morgan Y Evans - Walking Bombs on Wednesday, January 27, 2021 at 9:57 AM (PST)

Heavy Temple by Gene Smirnov

HEAVY TEMPLE have penned a deal with Magnetic Eye Records, becoming the label’s first signing of 2021 (but not its last). This well-oiled riff machine will proudly present a heavy psychedelic expedition that seamlessly weaves from boogie van grooves to the gravitas of Candlemass in the shape of their debut album via Magnetic Eye Records this year.

HEAVY TEMPLE comment: “We’re beyond thrilled to be joining the Magnetic Eye family, along with so many talented friends and musicians”, writes singer and bass player High Priestess Nighthawk. “We can hardly wait to put out our first full album with Magnetic Eye, and we think it’s our best music yet. Looking forward to sharing something with everyone this year!”

Jadd Shickler bids the Pennsylvanians welcome: “Some bands come knocking, others you might run across or decide to look into”, comments the Magnetic Eye Records label director. “Heavy Temple are a band whose sound and reputation simply demanded our attention. We are excited to welcome these purveyors of doom and groove to the label, and the only thing we’re more anxious to see than the release of their first official full-length is their heroic return to the road. Welcome, Heavy Temple!”

Metal Blade Records is proud to welcome Brooklyn’s Sanhedrin to its worldwide roster!

Formed in 2015, Sanhedrin have released two albums to-date: A Funeral For The World (2017) and The Poisoner (2019). The trio (which consists of former Amber Asylum/Lost Goat bassist/vocalist Erica Stoltz, Black Anvil guitarist Jeremy Sosville and drummer Nathan Honor) blends doom and classic metal into gripping, instantaneously memorable songs with lyrics that delve into the darker elements of humanity and the cyclical nature of destructive ideas. Thought-provoking and inherently catchy at the same time, Sanhedrin is unafraid to venture into unchartered territory.

The band will enter the studio to record their third full-length – and Metal Blade Records debut – in spring 2021.

Sanhedrin comments: “We are excited and humbled to join Metal Blade Records! Their legacy spans four decades and countless amazing artists, many of whom have inspired us over the years. We are proud to be part of its future, and look forward to what this new partnership will bring for Sanhedrin.”

Relapse Records is proud to announce the signing of Nashville underground trio YAUTJA!

Formed in 2010, YAUTJA has made waves across the metal scene for the past decade. Featuring members of several other musical projects including Thou, Coliseum, Mutilation Rites and more, YAUTJA amalgamate death metal, hardcore punk, grind and noise rock into a furious sound of their own.

YAUTJA Comment:

“The members of Yautja have been fans of Relapse artists and releases since middle school and the label has always been an outlet for discovering new and subversive music for us. We couldn’t be more stoked to share the music we’ve been working on over the past few years through this label.”

YAUTJA has released two full lengths and a 12″ EP as well as a handful of demos and splits through Forcefield Records, Gilead Media and Anti-Corporate Music Inc. to critical acclaim. Known for their pummeling live shows, YAUTJA has toured with the likes of Revocation, Exhumed, Dropdead, Inter Arma, Cult Leader, Rivers of Nihil, Black Breath, and more.

In 2020, the band headed to Steve Albini’s Electrical Audio in Chicago to document their newest material – engineered by Scott Evans/Antisleep Audio and mastered by Brad Boatright/Audiosiege. 2021 will see the release of a new YAUTJA full length. More information about this release, and more, will be revealed in the months to come.

California death metallers Arkaik have signed with The Artisan Era to release their newest album, due out next year.

Ahead of next year’s release, Arkaik have released a lyric video for their song “Supernal Flame.”

After the release of Nemethia in 2017, the band has added new guitarists Cris Portugal (Enslave the Creation) and Alex Haddad (live for Vale of Pnath, Dessiderium) plus new drummer Nathan Bigelow (Singularity) who had previously played live for Alterbeast and Virvum. While a new bass player had been added, the band is currently working on a permanent replacement to be announced when the time comes.

Arkaik will be touring this fall with Beyond Creation, Fallujah, and Equipoise on the Algorythm North America tour from September 20th to October 22nd.

Arkaik vocalist Jared comments on signing with The Artisan Era:

“It’s definitely a massive honor to be a part of The Artisan Era family. They have consistently been putting out forward-thinking, top-tier progressive metal and we feel like its the perfect fit for Arkaik. The enthusiasm from supporters of the label is also extremely humbling to be a part of. It’s really exciting for us because its also a new era in the band, so couldn’t be more stoked to be working with them now.
We’re still pretty deep into writing the next album, but we wanted to put out a new song with this announcement. We picked a song that we felt would be a good fit for a single and went to our trusted audio engineering wizard Zack Ohren in Oakland. He engineered and mixed the song and we got our friend Mendel bij de Leij (ex-Aborted) to master the track. They were a perfect combo to be working on this song and they nailed it.

Lyrically the song ties all our previous concept albums together into one song. It acts as an overview of the entire journey of Cyrix, through the last three albums, up until now, and points to where we are going next. We’ve never done a stand-alone single like this, so I felt like it would be a cool opportunity to tell the story as best I can in one song. If you want to learn more about our history and concept albums, check out the podcast I did with Steel Legion Podcast here. You can follow the Arkaik Street Team Group on Facebook here.

Thanks to everyone who has been supporting us through the years, Arkaik wouldn’t exist today if it wasn’t for you. Cheers!”

Sin Shake Sin signs to Sumerian Records

Posted by longhairedpoet on Saturday, August 17, 2019 at 3:54 PM (PST)

Nashville, Tennessee hard rocker Stacy Hogan has signed his newest project – Sin Shake Sin – to Sumerian Records earlier this week.

Hogan had this to say of the signing:

“Ash [Avildsen, owner of Sumerian Records] called me up, said he really loved the music and that he was excited to help take things to the next level.. I’m excited to be a part of the Sumerian roster along with so many other artists that I enjoy and respect. We share a common vision and Sumerian provides the freedom to cultivate that vision.”

Sin Shake Sin have also released a music video for the track “Nobody’s Gonna Save My Soul.” Of the video Hogan says:

“The video involves a cult-like congregation who’ll stop at nothing to gain followers, only to reveal they aren’t who they seem. This is commentary on those throughout my life who have went out of their way to judge people only for the purpose of distraction away from their own guilt. We see this every day on social media, which can also be like a cult.”

Angel Witch sign to Metal Blade

Posted by Morgan Y Evans - Walking Bombs on Wednesday, August 7, 2019 at 11:03 AM (PST)

Metal Blade Records is proud to welcome Angel Witch to its worldwide roster!

Angel Witch’s 1980 eponymous debut on Bronze records created shockwaves that would resonate throughout the nascent realm of thrash, doom and death metal. Now, nearly four decades later, the band remain custodians of a style that transcends era and archetype. Their current line-up first formed eleven years ago, delivering 2012’s critically acclaimed album, As Above, So Below. The long-awaited follow-up to this record will finally arrive in winter 2019 via Metal Blade Records.

Angel Witch comments: “It’s hard to believe it’s been almost a decade since we recorded our last album and it is so exciting for us, personally, to have another record fully finished and in the bag which reflects the passion and chemistry of the line-up we have enjoyed over the last two and a half years. When looking for a label to release material we were so vibed up on, we knew we needed a team around us who shared the same level of enthusiasm for the project that the band members have and, even though we’re still a month away from street date, it already feels like we have found just that in the Metal Blade family: their perfect balance of understanding where were coming from, their own, subtle, creative input, diligent adherence to the timelines which curb our internal prevarications, and the ability to ask, ‘Do you really think that’s going to work lads?’ When needed, has made all the difference in turning eight songs we recorded in rainy Leeds into a fully fledged album project. What else would you expect from an international company staffed entirely by Heavy Metal fans?”

Before the upcoming album’s release, Angel Witch is giving fans the chance to listen to new music early, with a special cassette. Featuring pro-tape and a xeroxed inlay, the release is limited to 100 hand-numbered copies – and is exclusively available via Gleam. Sign up for your chance to win a copy here: https://gleam.io/6winV/angel-witch-new-song-giveaway

Angel Witch comments: “Seeing how the opening cut from our new album has some riff, structure and melody ideas (not to mention the title – which we can’t tell you yet) culled from an old Angel Witch live tape that was traded extensively back in the mid-eighties, we thought it would only be right and proper to dub up some copies of the song onto cassette and give you the chance to get your hands on one for yourself.
If you win, put it on your trade list and dub it for your contacts. And, please, send back my stamps!”

Stay tuned for more Angel Witch news coming soon!

Angel Witch line-up:
Kevin Heybourne – vocals, lead guitar
Jimmy Martin – rhythm guitar
Will Palmer – bass
Fredrik Jansson Punkka – drums

Vatican signs to 1126 Records

Posted by longhairedpoet on Monday, December 10, 2018 at 4:19 PM (PST)

Savannah, Georgia metallers Vatican have signed to 1126 Records, where they’re expecting to put out their debut album spring 2019.

Ahead of that release the band have released the music video for their song “Thirty-One Staples.”

“”Thirty-One Staples’ is about revisiting my childhood home through a lucid dream,” said singer Jonathan Whittle. “Observing my past and witnessing an event which put me in the hospital for two months with 31 staples to the head and having to relearn all motor skills. I came out stronger thanks to the discipline I gained from having built myself back and learning from that experience. Ultimately, it’s about diving back into your mind where the worst moments of your life happened: remembering who you are, what you’ve gone through, and that pain is truly temporary.”

The band will begin recording their new album at Silver Bullet Studios in Burlington, Connecticut with Greg Thomas (END, Misery Signals, Shai Hulud).

Vatican will also be hitting the road with The Acacia Strain later this month.

Check out the video for “Thirty-One Staples” and Vatican tour dates here.
